Refusing to let you access your lists of quests after you've finished the main ones during a period is more frustrating than any time limit. The menus are also really bad, and it's unnecessarily annoying to look up infinished quests. Renoistic fucked around with this message at 08:15 on Mar 5, 2016 |

Every "grinding guide" for Bravely Default is pointless because it requires you to have high levels on a bunch of different classes just to do the gimmicks.

here's my grinding guide: wait until random battles are giving you 300 jp a pop and then turn auto battle on and walk around in circles until you're satisfied

Ayesha's time limit works well because it pushes you to always be doing something important, but unfortunately there's also bits where you just have to clear an area for no reason to progress. No time limit would be fine with E&L's bingo thing, though. pparently sophie is really good so i look forward to that being translated at some point

Ciaphas posted:how long did you spend on ayesha, corn, and do you have any idea if you saw everything in that time? or is it gonna take a couple goes (if the game lasts that long for me of course) Ayesha was my first Atelier and I managed to get all endings except one on my first playthrough without a walkthrough, but wasn't able to beat all the optional bosses. There are regular item appraisal competitions and you need to win all of them to get one particual ending, which I didn't. It's a reasonable challenge, and you don't have to min/max everything to get the endings. I liked all characters so I made an effort to see every event and do every character side quest.

it's also possible to burn out the clock doing lots of alchemy, in which case you will probably at least destroy the bosses and win because your bombs will do enormous amounts of damage and everyone on your team will be invincible, but you may miss some of the side events.

So maybe I'm confused on how job changing works in Bravely Default or something, here's my situation. I just got to chapter 5, using a Freelancer/Monk/Black Mage/White Mage group all the way. The jobs are all mastered now, and I'd like to try some others, but when I switch I feel monstrously underpowered. I got absolutely wrecked by the black mage boss in the dungeon area.

Ah, crap. Screwed up a main quest in GoF. There's a section with a river flood where you have to build bridges out of planks to save people. I didn't realize you have to build them in a certain sequence to get all the people and the treasure chests, otherwise you run out of materials - the plank counter is not shown anywhere. So I had to run past half of them, abandon treasure, and tell a little girl to gently caress off. I hope the bridges come back after the flood, because I want those drat items. No, DOMO. Bad DOMO! Show me self-referential quests after I beat the game, in the extra chapter. Stick to what you do best for now... Ah, Jap... China?

Well I died like a chump to Killer at the Vilcabamba Ruins in Shadow Hearts: From the New World because of my own hubris. All I had to do was get Ricardo to rez Johnny and cast an all-cure, instead I soared too high like Icarus and missed the Perfect zone on the Ring. Ricardo and Shania both went Berserk, so Shania tossed buffs on what was left of the party while Ricardo played his guitar like the orchestral quartet on the sinking titanic as Killer offed them both .

The quest list in Shallie comes back in the last chapter and I don't think you can ever miss anything. The UI for it is really unintuitive and badly-made, though.

Okay after listening to some Bravely Default music over the last several days I have an urge to pick it back up. Does Ringabel's journal have a summary of what you've done and what your current goal is so I'm not flailing around lost trying to remember what I was loving doing?

Speaking of Shadow Hearts can someone talk about the horror elements of it. I keep seeing talk about how it all went away after 2, but nothing specific. They are able to be specific about the goofy stuff like the Man Festival, Wolf Bouts, or collecting gay porn. It just makes it seem like it has always been a comedy series and that From the New World took it too far.

It's never had a serious horror element to it but there's a lot of pretty disturbing or otherwise real weird monster design and some pretty gory backgrounds, for example in the first Shadow Hearts pretty much the first area is a town where the streets are covered in blood and corpses and you fight the first real boss in the middle of thousands of piled skulls. There's also the traditional "doll house" sidequest which always has a darker atmosphere than most of the rest of the game. I think it's more about the overall atmosphere that especially in the first game is often fairly bleak even though there's a ton of goofiness.

The Colonel posted:well, excusing Koudelka, though kind of to the detriment of the gameplay Well sure, but I consider Koudelka kind of its own thing since it's so different. Since I think you said you were playing it, the first Shadow Hearts in particular is a lot like Final Fantasy VII in that both games have a lot of goofy-rear end humour but also also a fair few parts that are pretty gory or otherwise kinda eerie even though they're obviously not horror games by any stretch.
