I know I've mentioned a few kids that my friend teaches in Thailand who have bizarre names. I'm not sure if I posted this one yet, but the most recent name to stand out is Jelly. Yup. Good luck ever being taken seriously with a name like Jelly...

A classmate from high school changed her name from Martina to Mevehlyn. She was very "kawaii" sort of person. Perfectly tolerable and polite, bit on the weird side though.

There was actually a dude named Buttram who became sort of famous in the last century for being typecast as a random yokel in cowboy movies; his last big role was as one of the random yokels in the saloon in the last Back To The Future movie He also did a lot of work in animated features https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IGZbQT-XVJg

This is almost two months old, but Thais choose these nicknames themselves. I've known an "Xbox" and a teacher of my acquaintance had students who were brothers who went by "Tennis" and "Ball". Singha (pronounced "Sing") is a mediocre Thai beer as stated, which comes from the Sanskrit word for "Lion", which is kinda badass. Fanny is, or used to be, a fairly common name in English-speaking countries (apparently short for Frances) and I even think its usage in other countries mostly derives from English. But I guess it turned into a slang word in the meantime.
