No. The only time this happens is when Iron Man flies the Hulk into the construction site, as Jarvis says that it's empty. Lots of people died in every other film, and even in Age of Ultron. When they evacuate Sokovia it's making sure that all living people are off the floating land mass, but people on and around still die.

I have to admit I did appreciate Whedon really emphasizing in AOU that the avengers actively work their asses off to save people while fighting the big bad guy.

It's a nice thought, but I wish the movie did a better job establishing whether the challenge is saving the world or saving the world without too many casualties, because it can't really be both. At the very least, it would be wildly irresponsible for half the team to spend its time escorting people by hand onto rescue ships if there's a serious risk of most of the population of the Earth being exterminated.

That Spider-Man costume is so drat good.

If you haven't, find the high-res picture of it before you go off of what you see in the trailer. The level of detail on it is crazy, and it's clearly meant to look Ditko-esque.

The face detail makes me thing of Alex Ross's design from Marvels (which was totally Ditko inspired I KNOW but that's what I'm seeing.)

That was a good trailer. That Ant-Man bit was the best though. And was Scarlet Witch blowing up Vision? Black Panther looks like they got the costume right, that always strikes me as one at risk of looking really goofy.

Spider-Man looks okay but I hope someone kicks his rear end. Or he just does that, Stark gives him a wad of cash, and he fucks off again. Or Venom (a fun one) pops up and runs him down with a truck or something. Basically I want the Spider-Man bits to be funny, I don't care how.

That sounds like it's having the comic problem again but I guess that's sort of inevitable.

It's kind of weird to introduce your new Spider-Man as the dude trying to beat up Captain America to help establish an underwater Gitmo but I suppose they could twist that around in the film.

Kind of assuming this Spidey's Uncle Ben died in the New York incident from the first Avenger's. Would be a good change of pace and be the proper motivation to shut down Cap.

Which would be a fair point if Vision didn't exist.

If anything the roles should be reversed.

This but also Stark is still making broad, sweeping decisions that affect his team and the entire world without taking the opinions/arguments of his teammates into account. The fact that the two big decisions seem* opposite in many ways is important but seems to be overshadowing his domineering attitude. Like he hosed up big time with Ultron, and his takeaway from that was "I should do a 180 and go full speed ahead in the other direction". The same people who he was defending himself against for building Ultron are now expressing hesitance at his new plan but hey, Lord Stark has made his decision.

*Frankly I don't think there's an extreme difference in "I want to build an AI that can police the world and protect us" and "I want the government to police all the superheros to better protect us" anyway. It's the same exact controlling attitude but with a new idea of what will totally be the thing that works this time.

I really hope, and the trailers are making me feel like they are, that this fixes the major problem in the comic and makes both sides like viable options. Like Tony has a very valid point of "Yeah, so we should probably be regulated by a higher governing body and be held responsible to the major disasters like Ultron" and Steve's point of "Yeah but remember how we were all onboard with SHIELD and they turned out to be evil?".

The comic had a huge issue in making Tony look like Mega-Hitler and Steve look like a plucky underdog.

Spidey having expressive eyes is a normal thing in both the comics and in the various cartoons. It's just not something that translates over to live action as easily so they didn't bother the last two times. I do really like that they're trying it.

There's a shitload of stuff in the comic that isn't in the film as Hemsworth isn't playing an evil clone of Thor in this.

I'm not getting the same impression from the trailers but otherwise I agree with all of this. What I really hope is that there are more sympathetic voices on the registration side, because it is an idea that makes sense. Tony Stark is just not the right person to lead this charge either here or in the comics because it comes off super laughable and hypocritical. I was under the impression that Thunderbolt Ross isn't a super sympathetic in the comics either.

^----- I feel like Tony could fit though because, despite being a dick at times he still seems pragmatic to the winds of public opinion and change. I'd imagine if he gets told "Look we don't wanna shut you down but for fucks sakes you built a robot that nearly killed EVERYONE, you guys need some level of oversight" and shown some options he'd be down.

Bucky's perfect because, yeah he's Cap's bro and he wants to help but he was also a drat assassin.

Also it looks like Ultron is the final prevailing event that gets the Act rolling rather than some idiots on a reality show loving things up royally.

Also I doubt the Punisher randomly shows up to kill a couple of villains.

Speaking of, if Thor is not in this, does that mean that in the movie time line that Thor: Ragnarok is happening at around the same time as Civil War?
