I love Nosferatu. I hope the Nosferatu fellas are in. It would be cool if there were quest chains for each vampire clan. Save the Lamia from a siege, help the Strigori towards restoring their house, whatever.

Mannfred sounds like he was a giant badass until the End Times where he suddenly became totally poo poo. Also that article pretty much confirms I'll be playing the undead first, they sound like the most special faction in the game currently.

Mannfred was a very smart man who was terrified of taking risks. He was like the Evil Overlord who tries really hard not to make any of the classic mistakes but by doing so is so paralyzed by perfectionism he can't roll the dice when he needs to. It was a good schtick for a villain; he can learn from his mistakes but they also make him even more hesitant. Then End Times happened and he became Vampire Shinji.

The only way I can put any kind of positive spin on it is to think of the whole history of the Old World from a 40k perspective. Without the god emperor to protect them this backwater planet eventually ended up falling to chaos and death, finally turning into a demon world because of unchecked use of chaos energies (the winds of magic). But that's giving GW too much credit, they killed off this fantastic setting for no reason, and because the company has lost all sense of what made it great to begin with, the self depreciating comedy of a world made just to make fun of generic Tolkenesque settings. I know it's a Mega Longshot, but I really hope Sehenesmet is of Khemri's Legendary Lords. For those of you who don't know, Sehenesmet is a Lich High Priest entombed inside a Bone Giant. His special rules let Tomb King armies field more and more varieties of Bone Giant. He's hilarious in the extreme, IMO

Orv posted:Say what now. The old armies were supposed to return in Age of Sigmar in four grand alliances, but the new "Grand Alliance: Death" book is pretty much just Vampire Counts plus the new models from End Times: Nagash. No Tomb Kings units in sight, either as minions of Nagash or allies of anyone else. There are free rules for them, but they are nowhere in the fluff.

Along with the Brets, I have no idea how they'd fit Empire models into the current fluff either. The game "starts" with Sigmar's push to reclaim the mortal realms, which was, what, a few weeks ago at most in story time? All the humans who aren't chaos cultists or Sigmarines are either scattered refugees or live in Sigmar's celestial magical techno Ringworld city. There are references to empires, some even sound Warhammer 40K scale huge, but only to talk about how they got squashed by Archaon a few centuries ago.

Before everyone was doing their own thing, but everyone had to fight against Chaos and eventually Chaos would gently caress everyone up. Nagash returning and uniting the undead as a force that opposes Chaos and is capable of taking over the world. And other races had these little things that could change the dynamic; orcs preparing for the biggest Waaagh!, ogres beginning a great migration, lizardmen realizing the plan of the Old Ones had failed... But then it was back to Chaos vs Everyone else as before, except evil triumphs because good is dumb.

Pretty sure they said you'll be able to buy Chaos day one. Also new Dev Blog on Sieges. http://wiki.totalwar.com/w/Sieges_and_Siege_AI That's actually really interesting. They're basically shrinking down the scale of sieges from the entire city to one defensible section but compensating by making the walls and streets and defenses huge so you can do some actual movement and tactics and crap instead of everyone piling into the same 2 narrow chokepoints. I like it. madmac fucked around with this message at 16:43 on Mar 14, 2016 |

I dunno, sieges have always been a numbers game outside of baiting the AI to do something incredibly dumb. At least now the broader walls and streets should favor the attacker somewhat because it makes it harder for outnumbered defensive units to just meatgrinder them to death with chokepoints that are 1-2 units wide at best. I'm probably biased because AoW 3 did something similar and it was a huge improvement. madmac fucked around with this message at 16:53 on Mar 14, 2016 |
