You have been called out, in the ways of old.
Right before the game came about, there were mutterings in the media of a post-30 gear score levelling feature. I don't see any sign of it though, the only mention of gear score is the incursion point on the world map.

http://www.gamezone.com/news/the-division-s-gear-score-sounds-a-lot-like-destiny-s-light-levels-3434532

It's probably unlocked in the UI with the incursion update.

Useful bit of information to know; you can run any of the story missions on hard mode and the endboss will always drop at least one purple. You can spend a decent chunk of your time just doing them to gear up at level 30. The drops are comparable to the purples you buy with phoenix credits.

I also have to agree with how fantastic the design of the gameworld is, I don't think I ever felt a sense of copy-paste anywhere except for a couple of electronics stores; and they all look the same in real life too. The guy who meticulously placed all the dead bodies and all the piles of rubbish everywhere needs a raise.
This has to be tied to levels because I've ran every mission since I started the game on hard and I've yet to get anything more then Blue... I'm level 10 right now so there's gotta be a level requirement on purple gear dropping on those missions. I sure as hell would love to get some better drops though because running some of these missions are godawful with pubbies. Though one of my best experiences thus far was grouping up with a russian guy who spoke very little english, but understood the value of chokepoints and kill zones.

Anyways, one question I have is would it better to try and stay at the highest tier of you DZ bracket and grind out DZ rank till your maxed out. Or is it just as safe and viable to ignore that and pluck away in the DZ regardless of being in the upper or lower tier of your brackets?

Edit: I should add, I'll probably be solo in the DZ most of the time.

Friends and I have been sitting in the 15-20 bracket for the past couple days. With myself being on the lower end. I've held my ground easily but I would recommend staying in the higher levels if you plan on being in that bracket for a while.

It was the rare occasion where we'd come across a high level group and they'd ruin my day if only because my stats were lower.

It is 'safe' to ignore DZ, but if you're looking for some way of getting ahead without putting gaining XP to stay in similar level range, it is an option. Just a matter of grinding up the currency to buy items or blueprints off vendors as needed, since it is a relatively painless way of guaranteed loot, so you don't even have to bother with extraction. You're just there for DZ Bux.

Only problem is whether or not DZ Xp scales with NPC level. Getting Rank 30 could be a chore. I haven't spent much time there, and my rank is roughly in parity with my character level, so I'm thinking it'll take some doing to get up to rank 30 without hitting the higher brackets to kill higher level NPCs. Especially if deaths penalize you relative to DZ rank. At a certain point you just might hit a bit of a plateau where you can't accumulate DZ Xp faster than you're losing it from even a few odd deaths.

I'm sorry, I meant to clarify that I meant at level 30 only.

I've also noticed that on story missions that are above level 20 on normal mode, the hard mode reward (as well as the boss drop that I was talking about earlier) is always purple as well. Again, this is from the perspective of a level 30 player.

For some reason, today the Russian Consulate mission has challenge mode available as well as the daily.

Gearscore is probably the best way to go unless you add levels with expansions. Either way you obsolete a tier of gear, it just depends on how wide the gulf you wan to make it (one tier up in a raid environment, or an entire new expansion ala WoW). Also I hope gearscore is sort of taken into account in Dark Zone at 30? I get the impression if you're all decked out going rogue would be easy to do while fighting someone off that is decked out in way higher end gear sounds like a nightmare.

Honestly I'm not sure what to make of the bird coins nerf or if grinding for gear is the best idea simply by making it harder to obtain. I think Diablo 3 has it right in that it drops relatively generous amounts of legendary/top of the line loot for you but it's up to the player to make them work in a way that outweighs them being mere stat sticks. Vanilla D3 had this problem where legendary items were just better by virtue of rolling higher stat ranges and didn't offer anything useful and set item bonuses were mostly meagre stat bumps or 5% extra something. Nowadays, almost every legendary item has a unique power attached to it that completely changes how an ability even works (and D3 already has runes which basically work like skill mods) in sometimes subtle or drastic ways. Same with set bonuses.

I haven't hit endgame but I get the impression each rarity tier up is really just higher roll ranges and additional bonus rolls. But other than talents requiring certain stat requirements they don't seem too interesting with the except for a few like the last bullet doing bonus damage; the rest just seem like "have same more of a stat you probably want anyway". I don't know how far you can take talents or how many you can add before the game starts to feel fantastical.

I was going to mention One is None seeming really powerful when you use it on the range (with a shotgun it feels like it activates over 50% of the time) but I think it's probably balanced in actual combat due to how much the enemies move and take cover, I feel that I'm more likely to take the more or less guaranteed body shot than take the time to line up on a rushing enemy's head.

I think I'll need to make more use of the range actually, specifically I am regretting getting rid of my AUG for a different SMG that was 2 levels higher but it has stupid levels of recoil. Is there any rule of thumb people have come up with to decide when a gun really does need to be replaced even if you either really like the weaker gun or are less keen on the powerful one?

I think the skill just accounts every pellet as a bullet, so each pellet has a 50% chance if it hits the head. Still have to be earlly close for it though.

Edit: on the topic of DLC, I hope some of them bring vertical aspects into the game. I want to climb those towers on the inside and out.

The exp is static you get around 150 xp per kill in 15-19 bracket. Same at all levels I believe so it doesn't matter when you grind.

Killing rogues hands down gives the best exp.

Shotguns do less dps than pistols. It's pretty loving pathetic when I can dump a pistol mag into an elite and kill it, but shotguns frequently leaves enough hit points left after said magazine that I have to draw the pistol or endure reloading.

They should just remove critical strikes and headshot bonus damage from them entirely and just jack the damage all the way up. Maybe give them smg range drop off too.

So, I have this policy. It's a personal thing. If I go rogue by accident, I'm loving all in. Did I accidentally clip you during a firefight? Sorry, can't leave any witnesses.

The practice made me a few enemies yesterday after a careless click during an extraction. I shot a guy while he and his group were loading their gear, so I tossed a seeker incendiary mine and some tear gas escaping in the confusion. Yay successful rogue time.

So, I'm off looking for Darkzone chests inside landmarks, and the same group came up behind me and started shooting the NPCs guarding the chests too. I thought we were cool. I just so happen to roll into the midst of them dodging a grenade and catch their radio chatter:

"Is that the guy?"
"That's him! That's the guy that killed Jake! El Poto!"

One of them shoots at me, turning them all rogue. I dive away, thow a sticky and an incendiary seeker into their group. Now most of them are down, bleeding, on fire, etc since I have the talents that help with that. All that's left is the executions. Six rogue agents down and another level of darkzone xp. I got their DZ keys and the pick of their loot too.

I'm playing thing on the Xbone. Yesterday I hit level 30, got all of my base areas to 100% and finished the last side missions (I still have more supply stuff I could do, but with everything at 100% already it seems low priority).

I spent a little time in the DZ (I can solo in DZ 1 fairly reliably / a little of DZ 2), and solo'd the 2 hard mode daily missions, but I'm largely just waiting for my friends to get off their asses and level up from 15.

I have a few questions. Can I matchmake the challenge difficulty daily missions? It's unclear from the matchmaking menu if you can matchmake for specific difficulties or not. Is the best use of my initial bird coins a yellow weapon blueprint? They seem to cost about half as many coins as the actual guns and I have mats to burn. I still only have about 70 coins so I have a few days to go in any case.

What's my best use of time while I'm soloing at max level? It seems like solo DZ is decent for purples if you can avoid getting murdered, but I'm closing in on having all purple level 30 stuff, so I'd be mainly just grinding for DZ rank.
