I had never heard of Liquid Metal before so I looked it up.

If your station proudly announces they play Soulfly, Slipknot, and Pantera, you're probably a lost cause. Also they were playing a song off Slayer's newest album if that's also any indication.

Oh, no, I actually like songs from all three of those bands I pointed out. I just know that they're pretty lovely in comparison to a lot of other metal.

I have at least a dozen full listens just from the past 3 days. A-Life Omega Point's layering is :eyepop: and I still don't know what's making the backing drones in Eukaryotic Hex Swarm - is it an ebow? The amount of detail and cool poo poo going on is mindboggling even compared to their earlier work, and the rhythms are even weirder. The atmosphere is more urban and claustrophobic too, which is appropriate given that the narrative details what happened to human civilization before the universe got unmade on their last 2 albums (yeah, every single wormed release is a concept album and ties into an overarching story, but the lyrics are so broken-english that it's hard for me to stitch it together).

the vibe reminds me of the manga blame!

Yeah, I always use Pandora for music streaming when I'm away from my computer. Their Metallica station is actually surprisingly good. Skipping through it right now, it's giving me Sodom, Behemoth, At the Gates, and Obituary. Sometimes it pops up with garbage like Godsmack but that's rare and I can always just thumb it down and never hear it again.

Wow, this is really good.

Are there many other good space themed black metal bands? I'm aware of plenty death and thrash metal bands, but I think black metal doesn't have much.

Oranssi Pazuzu just released a new album, although these days they are as much a kraut/psychedelic rock band as they are black metal. Still, really interesting space vibes and themes throughout their albums, like you'd be going deeper and deeper into the dark caverns of the unknown dimensions while losing your sanity the deeper you drift.

From the new 'Värähtelijä' album:

And the previous album 'Valonielu', which I like the most, especially the last song which is 15 minutes of descending into madness:

Midnight Odyssey ( also Aussie ) are in a similar vein, but less "poppy" with the synths, more "atmospheric" ( like 6-8 minutes of synths before drums/guitar makes a presence ), more melancholy/depressing ( Mesarthim is very "positive" ). Very long build-ups, ala doom/atmospheric.

Their "classic album" - 2 hours long: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6heH6b22wA

But the guy has been releasing new stuff, 1 12-20 minute long song at a time, that's less heavy on the 8 minute synth atmosphere:

Not metal related but hearing about The Strokes "playing the classics" at SXSW and then realizing "Is This It" came out 15 years ago. :/
