I enjoyed both. I think Freedom Wars has the best character customization and giant enemy fights out of the MH clones, but small enemies are a pain, the crafting is super-grindy RNG bullshit, and there's a whole lot of pointless wandering around your way-too-large home base.

Toukiden, on the other hand, has a decently small town, no randomness in crafting(although there's still lots of grinding), and no long stretches where you don't get to fight anything.

Thanks. Gonna skip out on Freedom Wars and get Toukiden Kiwami, then.

i like falcom's newer design. i also like her older design's guitar case that's covered in stickers of every game falcom has released but the character design itself is bleh

wasn't that some thing where nisa was basically trying to employ people who worked at idea factory into their company

or was that the other way around or something

This is also probably a big factor in Nights of Azure vita not coming over. I haven't heard of it being as bad as that, but considering the amount of complaints people have about framerate in the vita versions of Gust's turn-based games, I can't imagine framerate drops on an action game on a tiny screen are worth it, even though I don't want to wait until I get a PS4 to play it :(

It actually runs pretty well on the Vita, they just had to scale it back til it looks like a PSP game to do it.

there isn't like one vocaloid composer, it's a bunch of amateurs doing whatever they want, and the stuff that gets popular gets added to project diva generally

Well, to be honest, that one isn't in either game, but there's tons of stuff on youtube in various styles. Also, those three are in the games. Still lots of cutesy stuff, but they mix it up nicely with dark songs as well.

I might be banned for this but I had no idea, I thought it was just a company that developed the vocaloid program and did all the work.

Ahh, bummer. I dunno I might just pick it up & play in Japanese if I have the cash, but at that point I might have enough to just drop on a PS4 anyway hmm. I know they aren't state of the art or anything but I do love the visuals on their games so I do appreciate the bigger screen.

Edit: My favorite vocaloid song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=shNgOFTla-c

Yeah, Vocaloid is a music production software. Once you buy the software, you're totally free to make your own songs, upload them to niconico (japanese youtube basically), and even sell CDs, since you have the rights to the software. Some music composers for actual bands and anime and stuff even got their start composing vocaloid songs, and some singers got their start singing covers of vocaloid songs. It's really neat.

Yoru no nai Kuni looks and plays like this on the vita:

The main problem is that they were either unwilling or unable to compromise on the graphics effects and model quality, and just settled with mediocre framerate and lower resolution instead, saving money on dev time.

^I posted that. There's a surprisingly big amount of metal stuff done with Miku. And a lot of it is pretty drat good.

I recently found something that works well as a recommendation for just about anyone even those not familiar with vocaloid:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPYqrVDlc_4

It's an entire album by a bunch of producers doing shoegazer songs. Shoegazing was a weird rock subgenre in the UK from the late 80's/early 90's and, what ya know, works surprisingly well with Miku on vocals.

I like this album enough that I actually want to buy it. It seems to be available only in this store that doesn't ship outside Japan, so if any of you actually knows what the best way to get my hands on it I'm all ears. There's a forwarding service called something like... Tenzo? Worth using?
