Buuuuut yeah its called "Doom 2 hell on earth", so between that and the skybox changes I figured it out pretty quick.

Zaphod42 posted:This right here is why Hexen is in fact bad. Heretic is boring. I tried, I really did, but it's a pale Doom clone. Hexen is fun if you know what to do/where everything is. First time through it's a bitch. It's also super fun as co-op Later Doom 2 levels (specifically the city levels as mentioned) get too annoying and you run around trying to find keys rather than shooting poo poo but it's OK. There's one red key you have to get in a level (I forget the name of even though I just played it) where you have to activate a switch to bring down a wall to open up a teleporter that you then go through which takes you to some place where you don't get the red key...you have to go through the teleporter, and then turn around and go BACK through it and it teleports you to a different place where the key is. Who's the bright motherfucker who came up with that idea? It's not clever it's just annoying as gently caress.

Yeah if they had put a subtle arrow on the floor or wall texture pointing back at the teleporter I'd be OK with it but as I recall there's nothing to indicate that's what you should do. It's just a case of "people will run around until they've exhausted every other possibility and step back through the teleporter and discover it by accident" e: don't know about the secret exit, I've only played through Doom 2 like once before this and mainly because the later levels start losing some fun and start to become a chore.

Xenomrph posted:I know exactly what key you're talking about, I think it's in the map "Downtown". The game doesn't give you any indication that going back through the teleporter will send you anywhere other than where you came from. And as an added "gently caress you", the red key is in plain sight, there's just no obvious way to get it. I remember this level and it took me over an hour, I just brute forced it by trying everything over and over. Definitely confusing as gently caress.

Nah, I pay attention to the plots in games, I just think my shareware copy may have had those sequences cut out. Videogame plots are awesome and ridiculous, the problem is when you start analyze them like you're writing your senior thesis on "War and Peace". People should just chill out and enjoy the zaniness that is video game plot justification.

Anyways, now there's a few options for Doom 64 ports/wads that you can play on PC.

The alpha multi was pretty twitchy and felt fast, just not old first doom fast. That'd be too much. Jumping was pretty precise, the mantling helped with the ledges. Rocket Jumping was drat hard to do and really damaging.
