So, Vader are playing in my town, in some lovely club. I almost wouldn't believe it, but it's on their website. loving Vader! For £8, drat. Not even going to question it. Just booking the next day off work and going to break my neck.

EDIT: On checking it's probably because their current drummer is from my town. I never would has guessed that without looking it up.

I don't know if you've seen them before, but Vader are one of only two death metal bands I've seen live whose vocals I'd say sound as good or better live than on the albums (the other being Artificial Brain). Saw them a few years ago headlining with Vital Remains and a bunch of minor support bands and it was one of the best shows I've been to. Enjoy!

A week or so ago I posted something about the Kunsthauch label being a rip-off/bootlegger re: business dealings with Sorcier des Glaces. Well, apparently there have been further developments and not all was what had been implied by the band. Or so I assume. I'm going by the reaction over at NWN, because there's no way I'm reading this enormous pdf of emails. From what I can gather, SdG changed their mind about working with this label long after the process was underway.

And though they haven't posted anything about it since last time, I'm also leaving SdG's FB link here so that I can extricate myself from it all and leave it up to anyone who wants to follow the drama:

No way, did it have any official ties to the games or was it just a song inspired by the books. Man, now I want Vader to be on the soundtrack to Cyberpunk 2077. I can just imagine going into some blade runner-esque nightclub with "Dark Transmission" blaring from the speakers.

Funny story, that song was actually the first time I ever heard Vader. I was kinda confused, going like "Huh, I thought this was supposed to be a death metal band?"

It's not a very good song. :v:

EDIT: More specifically, it was for a compilation album of "music inspired by the game" that was included in some special edition of the game, IIRC.

I was backpacking around Europe and saw them in Krakow a couple years ago and it blew me away. I would say it was the best live show I've ever been to. They've only been to my current city (Calgary) once in the last 10 years and that was when Necropolis came out.

It's just kinda more of the same, there's a handful of faster paced songs that I hear entirely hear the iron maiden connections people mentioned. But yeah I didn't have lofty hopes from them as they're sorta the radio rock version of Unleashed, who are still the reigning kings of viking metal.

The one thing I'll say for new Amon Amarth is that the vocals are killer. Johan gets better and better on every album even if the music itself doesn't.

But that's just it, it doesn't sound like "the same" to me. This album sounds a lot lighter than, say, Twilight of the Thunder God. A lot of this stuff is almost like straight-up power metal except for Hegg's vocals, and even the heavier songs sound really stripped down, like the songs have less meat on their bones. Maybe that's Andy Sneap's production at work, I'm not really familiar with his work but I've read some less than admiring comments about him.

I agree with Hulk Krogan though, Hegg still kicks rear end. Even the couple spoken parts he does sound badass.
