I've heard some of Little Richard's gospel stuff and it's decent for what it is, but I'd like it better if he'd brought any of the energy or fervour he had in his rock songs. (I think he'd decided that rock music was evil at the time, so he was consciously avoiding having any rock-ish elements in his stuff.)

i want someone to give me recommendations for stuff similar to joanna newsom, but i'm afraid people will misconstrue that to mean twee-rear end freak folk, which i find boring as hell, when what i really mean is incredibly pompous over-orchestrated trippy fuckin 20-minute long tone poems basically, less like milk-eyed mender and divers and more like ys and have one on me so, uh that

I work with a charity for refugees and we're currently preparing a radio show and we need two songs from Eritrean musicians , two from Iraq and one from Syria. We're looking for uplifting tracks that are roughly four minutes long. Ive already found a couple of good ones, but maybe somebody here has some special recommendations

I'm hoping someone might be able to point me toward a specific genre—It'd be nice if I knew for what to search on Spotify—or a least a few artists for this. I'm horrible with classifying genre and whatnot, but I'm looking for something along the lines of chill electro/house/synth but with as much deep bass as possible. Unfortunately, I don't have any great examples on hand, since most of what I've found appealing has just been random DJs at venues. While his examples aren't really what I'm looking for, I think this post from a while ago articulates it well: signalnoise posted:I don't remember the last time I heard bass-heavy downtempo electro/house without a ton of drums, but that's basically what I'm looking for.

I ask because I've always looked for songs in this vein and I've never been successful. It's got vocals but they're pretty mellow and fitting for the song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCQKy-3qvck Don't bother looking into the rest of their catalog for more of the same. I was a fan of PWEI back in the day but their other material doesn't sound like that (except for an amazing remix of Everything's Cool I heard one time eons ago). If anyone is familiar with the song "Aqueous Transmission" by Incubus, I very much would like more music like that - it's extremely relaxing. The vocals and music are very pleasing to me - I heard it during a savasana in my yoga class and have been tearing my hair out trying to find similar songs. I checked out the Ambient thread but it doesn't quite have what I'm looking for - a bit too meandering compared to a more focused, relaxing experience. It's very hard to describe what I want.

So, I'm not sure this quite constitutes a genre, but I'm really loving the sound on these two songs - obvious hip-hop influence, with a menacing atmosphere and heavy electronic bent to it: Kris Menace feat. I need some chiptunes to jog to. I've started jogging every morning and for some reason I find upbeat chiptunes to be the absolute best thing to run to. I grabbed up a few retro songs I liked from Sonic and some old Nintendo games as well as a ton of stuff by Dubmood and Bit Shifter. I really like Bit Shifter's stuff; 8-bit, very upbeat and catchy. I think upbeat and catchy are the two really big requirements I'd like to ask for. If I had to sum up exactly what I'm looking for in a single song it'd be https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QWo0R6jPv2U (oh and I have a few Undertale songs as well) Single song suggestions are welcome but also good Chiptune folks who do things similar to Bit Shifter would be great as well.

I'm looking for some long stuff that mixes ambient/drone with builds/bursts of raw repetitive rhythm. I'm trying to be vague because I know there must be subgenres for things like this, but I'm open for recommendations from any genre. So far I've most liked it used in rock (GY!BE, recent Swans) and electronic (Kesto-era Pan Sonic).
