Tekopo posted:I think the sweet spot for rolling to see if there is a bias or not is around 400 tries or so There's no "sweet spot", how many rolls you need is a direct function of a) how big a bias you want to detect and b) what error chance you're willing to tolerate. If you fix b), the number of rolls you need is directly proportional* to one over the square root of the first. 400 rolls will let you find biases half the size of what 100 will. * Almost directly proportional - when we're talking about hundreds of rolls, the results are close enough to a normal distribution so as to make no difference.

Waves are usually announced 6ish months in advance of release. W8 was extremely late, so a quick announcement of W9 wouldn't be unusual at all. The designers stated on an interview that W9 is pretty much completely finished design-wise, anyway.

So far so good but I've only played against Ghost + escorts lists so far, where the protons are gold for landing crits. I suspect you'll end up being right about flying dorsal turret AND torps. Tonight I'm going to try a Gold Squadron in place of Dutch. My motive for running torps on a Y-wing is the synergy between guidance chips and Extra Munitions, since I don't think chips are worth losing astromech on X-Wings. You can fit two Lothal Rebels + a lot of different cheap escorts in a list, and it at least looks scary on paper. Friend of mine is trying to get four attack shuttles as a list, but I think he's just ebaying Attack Shuttles to get them and not buying a second Ghost. I kinda want a 2nd Thermal Detonator but the Ghost and Phantom appeal to me in exactly zero ways, so I don't really think I'll end up getting a second. Hell, I've been trying to get my BFF to take it from me as a loaner so he can run double Ghost lists, but he don't wanna. Pity, cuz it's never gonna come out of my curio cabinet ever.

General Battuta posted:So far so good but I've only played against Ghost + escorts lists so far, where the protons are gold for landing crits. I suspect you'll end up being right about flying dorsal turret AND torps. Yeah, with Scouts being the new hotness having PS4 or better seems almost mandatory if you want to try and rush one down before it can launch its torpedoes. Thinking about it I'd still probably want a turret on a torpedo-boat Y-Wing simply because wishbones aren't the most maneuverable ships around for constantly having to try and nail in-arc shots, the advantage of the Scout in that regard is it has a bigger primary firing arc along with a pretty decent dial + inherent access to Deadeye. The TLT is admittedly a strong inclusion, and with a Grey Squadron pilot with Protorps + TLT then Wedge and Wes how you have them kitted out, that actually puts you at 98 points. If you give up BB-8 for an R2 or R5 Astromech you can push the Grey Squad pilot to Dutch Vander at 100 points on the nose. Dutch is a good pilot, but no initiative bid makes me leery. Against something like triple Scouts it doesn't really matter either way but if you run into Imp aces lists you could find yourself in trouble. I guess you can always go with the Dorsal Turret, though admittedly it's kind of eh, I mean it's there and it's not terrible but it's not super exciting either. If I were shaving points I'd probably go with an Ion Turret instead for additional control...it even synergizes well against those Scouts that like to pack Feedback Arrays since it means they actually go drifting the first time they try to use them instead of having a freebie. Also you asked me earlier if I felt that the 2-point initiative bid was worth it with Wes at PS10 and I was so tired I kind of overlooked one of the crucial reasons why I think having both things is important. The second game I played against my friend Josh's SVP list handily highlighted it, in fact. I said I like being able to give PS9 arc-dodgers initiative to make them lock their movement in ahead of time, otherwise if they can barrel roll/boost after the X-Wings move then chances are they're going to be able to dodge unless you've lined them up perfectly between some rocks...but if you give Wes something like Adaptability and make him PS9 instead of PS10 then all the enemy aces get to shoot first before he does as well, whereas at PS10 he's almost guaranteed to go first (unless you're up against PS10 Corrans or Poes, or the rare PS11 Vader) and knock critical tokens off the enemy aces before they fire. I did this to Josh several times over the course of both games where Wes was able to break Vader's target lock, stopping him from using his ATC and probably saving myself a point of damage or three in the process. tl;dr, I might be willing to go up to 99 points, but I probably wouldn't switch VI for Adaptability on Wes.

Bringing Crazy Eights post-Vets to GA tonight, probably going to go lose me some friends. I'm not sure it's better than DVD, but it seems obscene, considering that the TAP beats Autothrusters now and everyone can just park at maximum range. Chewing up 6EHP with 4 green dice, 4EHP with 4 green dice and disallowing dice mods, and 4EHP with Autothrusters and 3 green dice feels like a goddamn chore. Whee ha.

Star city posted their regionals door prizes and it's extremely lame. B, bomber, lambda, and star viper. Nothing wave 8, nothing to really get excited about. It's actually pretty insulting considering how obvious it is that these are extras they need to get rid of. They're asking $20 entry and expecting 100 people. I recall from last year that the kit costs $50. With regionals kits being so cheap compared to the prices being asked for entry, you'd think either FFG or someone would at least have guidelines for this. I'm looking forward to the your hobby place and games and stuff events since they at least give out tons of stuff and will provide food. I shouldn't really be surprised since SCG is a cheap rear end when it comes to all their premier magic events too, but it's disappointing. It's the closest to me but I'm going to see if I can back out of my preregistration.

Yeah a lot of places are really night and day in terms of prizes. Wisconsins regional charged $20 and the only non kit prize was 1 or 2 bags of third party shield tokens compared to Chicagos that gave away alt art cards, a painting, store credit and a custom map for each of the top 25

The place I play doesn't have any prizes other than what's in the kit, but then again the entry is only $10. I'm fine with no non-kit prize support as long as the entry fee isn't too harsh.

Finster Dexter posted:wth are you people doing with more than one ghost?? Trying to run broghosts lists or something? Being able to build a ship with brobot levels of firepower for 9-11 points less is a thing. It means you can stick a B-wing in there and still have autoblaster turrets to dissuade aces from arc dodging you. I can tell you from experience that it's actually really hard to arc dodge a ship AND get a shot in while staying outside R1.

Can't really hurt anyways, I really wish FFG had a much stricter organized play guidelines including things like prices and whatnot, especially since Regionals you're basically at the mercy of the 18 or whatever venues nationwide. Some faffing about in the contact us section found me OrganizedPlay@fantasyflightgames.com, I'd try them.

I've really fallen in love with the base YV-666 with Gunner, Bossk, and Zuckuss. It hits like a truck and threatens a gigantic area. I'm not sure what I want to pair with it.
