yeah weren't apple one of the larger contributor to the type c standard while they made their own lightning connector? while the micro usb had stuff like these

along with other plugs like the usb micro-a that can be broken easily by being connected the wrong way

also seems like apple are combining thunderbolt 3 with type c so it can be used for just about everything too

FireWire 2?

here's a cool graphic that puts Apple current SKU's into perspective: https://www.popchartlab.com/products/the-insanely-great-history-of-apple-3-0

they're releasing fewer products in the 90's, but far more in mobile than ever

Thunderbolt was great for apple, though

1. there's a small handful of users getting every inch of performance out of it. pro users. and it's a "mac/book pro" so they expect the cutting edge. even though most macbook pro users aren't really pro users and will never use it, they have to build the product for that target market.

2. it shares the DP port. it doesn't take up any additional space on the device and nothing changes for most users. neither really helps nor hurts to have it. you need a display-out port anyway and the port is there and TB is included in the chipset.

3. it's just a precursor to USB-C. they tried out the tech and got manufacturers making stuff, but perhaps the real benefit for consumers rather than prosumers will come in USB-C form?

when they announced thunderbolt they never made it sound like it would benefit everyone, anyway. mostly aimed at video editors in how they talked about it.

actually thunderbolt is a steaming pile and i have literally endless intermittent problems with every firewire/TB peripheral not being seen by the computer (2015 mac mini max level murdered out edition) and only some arcane sequence of unplugging, rebooting, replugging, and chanting voodoo rituals gets them to come online all together. in my theatre. this is in reference to our audiofire 12 which works over tb, i think its tb to firewire. wnayays its alwatys hosed up whereas the usb -> dmx out to the dimmers has literally never had a single problem.

Are you using peripherals connected by a swappable TB cable in between or are these peripherals with a TB cable pigtail that you can't remove? This is important!!

usb-c is the backdoor through which thunderbolt will sneak into high performance devices, and they'll fall back to usb transport if your computer is bad

why? what use case do you have for adjusting the speed of inertial scrolling?

why add yet another drop down or slider hidden behind eight layers of menus to control something that only control-freak spergs have even considered? that's the reason android is unusable poo poo, millions of completely irrelevant customizations

There are already tons of control-freak settings for much less useful things and you can also search the settings. Chill.

i still hear audio people praise firewire. apparently things that are unimportant to some consumer-level users are really important to Pro-level users?

also i don't see how thunderbolt maximizes incompatibility when every Mac now has it (save for the Macbook which just has it in another form).

as a pro-level user, i have no idea what those benefits could be. my usb rme interface is just as capable as my fw rme interface, and it doesn't need an adapter

sure, but your old laptop? a friend's? macs in 2 years (tbd)?

since there's literally no benefit to thunderbolt, why not just use what every computer already has?
