My favorite moment of hilarity in WoW (shortly before I stopped playing) was the quest to get a new red shirt.

To get this red shirt, the woman explains, you'll need to bring her some cloth. OK, cool.

Now, she tells me I can get this red cloth.. from the scarves of a local street gang. Ooook, so...

..then she tells me I should go and kill them repeatedly until I've found enough of their scarves to totally make me a new shirt.

I don't know why, but the thought of this homemaker calmly asking (without a hint of humor) for me to go and murder like 60+ people and look their loving scarves so she could make me a shirt with the trophies was the most psychopath but hilarious thing I've read in a while and was the moment it struck me how loving terrible quests are in MMOs.

... that and the woman thanking me endlessly for saving their farm from monsters, while outside the window behind her, monsters were running into the wall trying to get in.

My favorite one of these is a Barrens quest where you had to get 8 dino heads for a hunting quest.

As people found out, there was not a 100% chance to get a dino head when you killed a dino.

Blizzard later patched this.

With the introduction of phasing in the WotLK expansion, WoW became the first MMO where your actions seemed to have any effect at all on the game world. You'd get dropped into a town being overrun by skeletons, kill some skeletons, then suddenly the town would be secure and have vendors and stuff. It was neat, and certainly a welcome change from how Vanilla WoW had quest givers explcitly tell you you didn't really make a difference after all but thanks for trying.

Yeah I really liked this. I regret not sticking around a little longer after Wrath but oh well, in 5 years I can probably get the whole thing F2P.

Yikes.

I did better photoshops myself back in highschool.

On the other hand, this poster is a perfect representation of my expectations of this movie.

If they had made the sword just a tiny bit broader it would be 100% anime. This way it is only 87% anime, which I feel is a good enough effort. Should have the blade rest on his shoulder though.

They should also have had the soldiers in focus. Or at least in the right resolution.

If you're gonna make a poster of Llane, King of Stormwind, the very least you can do is put a goddamned crown on the king to show his importance in a visual medium. Cripes.

That, and if I am not mistaken the army in the background is standing with their backs to us/their king.

I am having difficulties even telling who that actor is because he just looks so bland. I have made a semi-joking point about this before, but to me the most alarming sign about this is that there is not a single actor I recognize. Never mind the awful visuals, they couldn't even get John Hurt or something? Who are all these people?

edit: Aw poo poo, that's Ben Foster. I like Ben Foster :( And looking at the cast, it's a little more stacked than I initially thought. But not by much.

Blizzard never patched any of that. Heads and claws and feet and scarves were never 100% drops in vanilla Warcraft back in 2005, no matter who important or logical that may seem.

For me the most off-putting thing is the whole "two worlds, one home", "our world is dying, violence is not the answer", "we can have peace!" vibe from the trailers and posters. The first war was blood and violence demon possessed orc slaves fighting an almost traditional human army, none of this gryphon riding diplomacy talking peace loving hippies stuff. Needs more skeletons and giant demon summoning and less of the talky talk.

Also those posters look bad

LOL, if anything WoW is infamous for you having absolutely no influence on the gameworld outside of extremely rare world events usually done once ever for a content expansion, in which your effect on the game world was something like "your server unlocked the content first!"

Goldshire and the Barrens are basically testaments to how absolutely stale WoW is.

Yes but WoW introduced phasing in WotLK, which allowed areas to change according to which quests you'd done and occasionally which choices you'd make. Most zones have a few areas where you can destroy/save/rebuild an area at the very least with a visible impact.

Which is what they were talking about. Obviously it doesn't amount to players actually changing the world. It's an MMO.

The bulk of the intended audience for this movie played either Warcraft 3 and/or WoW, where a decent chunk of the first two game's tenets were either ignored or retconned away. The trailers show that there's Green Orcs and Brown Orcs, just not the kind depicted in WC 1 or 2.

Legendary's "Warcraft" feature film from director Duncan Jones arrives in theaters on June 10. Fans will now be able to get a head start on the film's world thanks to a new graphic novel published by Legendary Comics -- "Warcraft: Bonds of Brotherhood."

Apparently it's written by the great Paul Cornell, so if anyone criticizes the story it's just proof we're not sophisticated enough to appreciate his genius.
