Assassin is a really fun kit in BG1. I believe I'll be able to solo the game with it. Arrows of detonation with poison weapon is an amazing combo. Is the katana +1 the best single handed weapon for backstab? edit: are characters an equipment in bgee transferrable to Siege of Dragonspear? Equipped items go with the NPCs at the end of the prologue, so you can leave stuff on Neera, Minsc, etc. and they'll have it when you go find them later. I had just finished pawning everything I could and spreading equipment for future party members across Minsc and Corwin's inventory, went upstairs, decided to reload to try some different dialogue, go up the other stairs and find Imoen's stuff which the game oh so kindly failed to mention was even there- or it might've and Beamdog's bullshit journal summaries messed me up. So that was another 10 minutes or so running back and forth between the potion seller and the castle . Oh and they forgot to mention that your chest travels with you .

insanityv2 posted:"Gorion would have none of this." Really Khalid? Gorion would disapprove of my preventing a woman from being summarily executed and at the very least escorting her out of the bandit infested wilderness? So you and Gorion were both terrible people? Khalid's comment as I watched Drizzt draw his last breaths seems to support this theory. First time I've "killed" Drizzt, and I wasn't even planning to. As I was slowly inching my way east I spotted two gnolls who turned and walked the other way. While I brought up the rest of my party I started to hear the sounds of battle and decided to just let it happen. A short day later I was able to clean up the gnolls and loot Drizzt's body without getting my own hands dirty and no reputation hit.

I don't know, but I assume his AI never activated since we never saw each other before he was dead.

Hollismason posted:I'm going to stick with Jaheira, but Minsc mage friend is terrible, no charm! Ugh what's a good wizard companion. I'm playing. Chaotic Good. Xan is at the end of the Nashkel Mines. He's an Enchanter and thus has the opposite problem of Dynaheir in that he doesn't get any Evocation spells, so no Magic Missiles, no Fireballs, etc. Neera is an EE exclusive Wild Mage you can meet in the streets of Beregost. She is the chattiest NPC in the game and you will hate her for it but as a Wild Mage she can cast any spell and gets the bonus spell per day that specialists do. On occasion though her spells change up and have some other random effect. Imoen can also be dualed to mage, and as long as you have someone else who can cover trap finding there is little reason not to do this. She will be a generalist and thus can use any spell. Quayle is a multiclass cleric/illusionist. Because he is multiclass he does not progress as fast as other mages do. He cannot use Necromancy spells which in BG1 means no Skull Trap, whatever. The issue with him is that without mods he cannot be recruited until Chapter 5 when it's time to go to the titular city. That's your options if your adamantly against having evil NPCs in your party. If you wanna open up a little... Xzar is a necromancer and is saddled with Montaron. Xzar is unable to use Illusion spells which means no Mirror Images or Invisibility. Edwin is a conjurer and also the best NPC mage in either game because of his amulet that gives him another spell slot at each level. He can be made to play nice with Minsc in BG1 if you talk to him with Dynaheir in your party, and then kill off Dynaheir and boot her corpse as you previously did Khalid. Edwin cannot use Divination spells of which the only noteworthy mention in BG1 is Identify. Baeloth is an EE exclusive sorcerer that can be found in the Larswood if your PC is at least level 5. He cannot learn new spells except by level but his starting selection is pretty amazing and includes stuff like Haste and Fireball. He is also a drow elf and thus has 50% magic resistance innately. Sephiroth_IRA posted:How does Quayle stack up? Isn't he a good aligned illusionist? I got the BG1NPC mod to move him to the carnival and he's been pretty great. My party is PC Bounty Hunter, Ajantis, Viconia, Coran, Kivan and him, so he's my only mage and I can honestly say I don't feel myself hurting for more arcane spellcasting. He also has this innate self 1/day invisibility which kinda makes me wish he was a thief but whatever.

The level to dual out of thief is basically always going to be "Am I satisfied with these thief skills" because that's all that thief levels tend to matter for.

A level 15 fighter is a good fighter. A level 9 fighter, 14 cleric, has 8 less hp, slightly less proficiency points, a slightly worse thaco, and can drop pit fiends on people and cast, say, Draw Upon Holy Might to increase his str, dex and con by 4 each.

At least until HLAs; fighters get some pretty great ones, especially if you aren't half (or one third) mage. Either way though, F/C multi or Fighter -> Cleric is still probably better.

Even then, though, he's got less attacks than a real fighter, less hp, less thaco, with the benefit being his ability to poorly cast cleric spells. Problem is that some of the cleric spells that synergise really well with being a fighty type require you to invest really heavily in caster levels (like DUHM which is hilarious)
