For how boring the location is, Kauffmann Stadium and Arrowhead are functional, convenient, tailgate-friendly, not named after a company and both had successful renovations.

Plus the dream is still alive that this will be added one day.

Current:

Originally planned with a sliding, bizarre concrete arch designed for heating, cooling, sorta protecting against rain, looking like a processor made in the 70s in Russia.

Yeah they spent almost as much as Jerry Jones to build what almost looks like an unfinished frame. Metlife looks terrible. It might be the lamest looking stadium in the NFL.

I haven't actually been to a game in it though, so maybe it functions okay. But aesthetically it's garbage.

to be fair as evidenced by the still-in-tact old Giants Stadium (a way nicer looking stadium) it probably isn't finished in that picture, but the finished product ain't much different

note the white tarp underneath the METLIFE sign in the foreground, they had to install that after they realized that there was no rain coverage in that area for the people standing underneath

Since overstock opted out of their sponsorship thing, it's cool to just call it The Coliseum again.

In news, Forbes reported that Oaklands mayor will be making a "dramatic announcement" regarding the Raiders stadium situation next week. It's probably that the Coliseum has been condemned.

That's true with the Rose Bowl and Cal Memorial Stadium but the Coliseum is way to big and there are basically no good seats.

The Raiders have no reason to bluff now, so this increasing chatter with Las Vegas is interesting.

quote:

Oakland Raiders owner Mark Davis will appear before a state committee later this month to discuss relocating the National Football League team to Las Vegas.

The Southern Nevada Tourism Infrastructure Committee meets April 28 at UNLV to review tourism-related projects for possible state funding. A 65,000-seat stadium in the Strip resort corridor is among the projects under consideration for recommendation to the Nevada Legislature. Davis will be at the meeting to address the stadium plan and the Raiders’ potential move, a source confirmed Tuesday on condition of anonymity.

The infrastructure committee’s recommendations, due this summer, are not binding.

Las Vegas Sands Corp. has proposed building a $1.3 billion domed stadium near the Strip through a public-private partnership. The casino operator’s preliminary financing proposal called for about two-thirds of the funding to come from taxes on tourists.

I wonder if Mark would pursue this over moving into the Kroenkhouse if the Chargers end up staying in SD.

No one in Vegas believes this is anything more than leverage because the city has been jerked around by pro teams in the past. Hell, the T-mobile arena is open and we passed all barriers for getting an NHL team and the process has dragged on so long

The NHL thing is based around an expansion, not moving an existing team. It's a completely different situation. 2/3 paid off by tourists is a shitload and there will almost certainly be some movement on that front, but if they provide a realistic amount, they're the front runners to get the Raiders. Oakland is providing nothing, and has jerked the team around for like 20 years. San Antonio isn't real. And if Davis was interested in being second class citizens in someone elses stadium, they'd probably be playing at Levi's, so I doubt the team is eager to join in with Kroenke. We'll have to see how the numbers play out, but right now I think Vegas is really plausible, and perhaps the frontrunner.
