I haven't played this game in a while, because I was trying to rank up, but when I got to super bronze I played against exclusively silver players until I was back to rookie. I don't mind losing, it's almost better because there's more to learn, it's just so many consistently unbalanced fights isn't really very fun? Like, yes, I get that silver players are better than me. Ok. Can I play someone I might beat?

Playing against Mika is so frustrating. I could be holding her out with my buttons for almost the whole round but then I end up missing one jump-in, or getting hit by the irish whip or just a random EX.rear end and now I'm in the corner, completely hosed bar a miracle read. EDIT: I suppose the game would be too dissimilar to SF4 if it had no characters that don't play street fighter. *grumble grumble* Jack Trades fucked around with this message at 13:54 on Apr 15, 2016 |

Calling Mika cheap does seem unfair, most of her stuff is a huge gamble for her. I think the hate towards her is that no matter how good you are it always feels inevitable that you at some point will get put in the corner and have to play the guessing game, its just very frustrating. Even when I win against her I feel drained after. This is probably my atonement for maining Viper in 4.

I think Nash and Bison are way more annoying than Mika. The former, you're going to get dash-grabbed. I'm not sure if it's possible to react to the Nash dash. The latter because you're blocking for 5-10 seconds when they get in.

Ok. Can I play someone I might beat? I think matchmaking is done by rank which is calculated daily, and not by LP which changes every match. I went from 900LP to 150 last weekend () and faced people 700-1500 LP the entire time. The next day I was fighting against 50LP Kens all the way up to 600 LP.

I actually like the Laura vs. Mika matchup. If only because suddenly Mika has to play the guessing game and it's glorious to see Mika players implode when faced with this. My favourite thing in ranked right now is to see the evident shock on players who have figured out to jump after Laura goes for Jab Elbow only to realise that if I go for a normal grab, I can react DP them.

Going back to the DOTA v. Street Fighter, when it comes to fighting games and MOBAs there's just a different level of investment and competitive vibe altogether. In a MOBA, teams in anything past a qualifying round play in a soundproof booth with screens flashing the hero they're playing at the center of a sold-out soccer stadium with a jumbotron broadcasting the game, and when you win they give you a solid metal trophy heavier than the Stanley Cup and a giant novelty check for two million dollars. In a fighting game, you can attain world champion status sitting in a folding chair close enough to the other guy to smell his B.O.

MOBAS are made by people that throw money at them, and fighting games are apparently made by people that don't even particularly like fighting games.

Jack Trades posted:Playing against Mika is so frustrating. It is - I played some locals last night and my bff was getting so pissed at the matchup, we started looking at the options Mika has and she's not so great outside of her pressure. If its not a light normal, everything but a charged HK/jumpin is negative on block Charge HK gets blown up by neutral jumps. It also has only 1 active frame - stick something out with a lot of active frames to stuff it on reaction to the startup Use your V-Reversals. If you die with full V-trigger gauge you need to learn to V-reversal more. V-reversal is a good option if you end up blocking a charged HK Do reversals* off her lp and lk blockstun - if you don't mika will just go braindead and always throw poo poo out - at least teach your opponent you have those options so they hesitate and your odds of escaping get higher *don't overdo it, it depends on how smart your opponent is. Try to stay calm and watch how your opponent adapts when you're being pressured Colorspray fucked around with this message at 17:24 on Apr 15, 2016 |

If that happened, you were way slow and let the move play out then did back claw, its a true block string there is no way anything can get through, if the first hit is blocked the only way second one hits is if they weren't blocking low for the lp version. There is no mixup it doesn't work, you can always mash buttons and get something if they stance switch, test it yourself in training mode if you don't believe me. This is caused by people who have bad connections rather than just being far away from you. So when the server pings them they return a low number, say 50. The server slaps a 5 bar rating on them and passes their connection to you, what the server doesn't know is they are running wireless/downloadingPorn or whatever and their ping is fluctuating between 50-200 constantly, it just happened to be 50 when they tested it. You can check this yourself, open up windows cmd prompt and just run ping google.co.uk (or whatever your local domain is) and see your numbers. If you get a very small fluctuation you're golden, if its a large one then it might in fact be you causing the problems. Mega Comrade fucked around with this message at 18:53 on Apr 15, 2016 |

Honestly, even on top of stuff being higher pressure because of 1v1, fighting games feel high stress to me because there's no downtime. If I play one hour of matches straight or two if I'm really pushing it, I feel pretty done. There's no breathing room, you always have to be on your a-game. Very little time to pause and think, you're basically making split second decisions for the whole time.

I've played Rookies that play better than Golds often enough to say rank means nothing. More than half of Silvers are indistinguishable from Bronzes and lose to the same stuff. Could be psychological, just try not to look at their rank at all and if you do, don't get intimidated. Dr. Video Games 0112 fucked around with this message at 22:06 on Apr 15, 2016 |
