I mean even the TS140 doesn't come with a Celeron. I bet it's an HP MicroServer.

HP and a few others do sell Celeron based servers with RAID1 cards for small business use. And if it only running AD and file/print services for a small network(maybe a dozen or so users) it is fine.

So a phone call came in today I host a small website for a business whose owner is friend of my parents ( first mistake I know ) and the website has been apparently down for two weeks. They didn't even call me, they called some local shop and got them to call me to tell me I broke the site. Two minutes of investigation showed that the DNS of the domain had gotten screwed up again. I have no access to DNS record so the computer shop guy had to go and fix it. At this point he brought up that they wanted me to migrate the site from my hosting to the ISP hosting. I personally don't care if they move the site, but I'm sure as hell not going to do it for free. I quoted him an hourly rate and guesstimated 2-4 hours to move it, including backups and testing, I also asked him if the ISP hosting had database support or not as the site is some wordpress abomination. The computer shop guy was completely blown away that the site needed a database and they weren't going to pay for it. So I gave him the proper IP for the DNS and told him I wasn't going to do anything else for free. blackswordca fucked around with this message at 10:08 on Apr 15, 2016 |

Going to the share by //10.10.0.100 instead of //FooFS1 works fine. Disabling fastboot causes this issue to go away. I'd still look into why there are that many ethernet

I can't access the shares either by name or IP address, and restart was of course first thing I did. I still have no idea if that's related to this number of network adapters, but it's still a problem which needs fixing. By fixing I mean system restore, and if that doesn't work, reimaging.

An itty-bitty tiny-winy eentsy-weentsy Celeron-based server could work for a "business" of a guy, his wife, and their seventeen-year-old child who sell, like, blown glass candlesticks out of an Ebay store. What's the size of your "client?"

An urgent delivery came in this evening requiring my full attention; dinner. My office has a bunch of really nice places in delivery range, and it's quite lovely to get a decent burger and chips or something once in a while when on the night shift .

We had a major upgrade of an Oracle-based database from 10g to 11g over the weekend, and unsurprisingly there are issues. My boss has sent out three emails to the world so far basically saying it's hosed up, we know it's hosed up, don't expect it to be stable today. Now, I know better than to expect people to read those emails, but what's really impressing me is people are replying to the message about it being broken to tell us they can't sign in, or can't print this form, or whatever. Dude, I know you saw the email, you're using it as your template. Also, unrelated, a lady complained to me today because emails from her dad keep getting flagged as spam. His email address was something like bob1597@sbcglobal.net and the subject line was just "lunch". I didn't have the heart to tell her that I'm afraid her dad may in fact be a spam.
