Yeah, that's legitimately effed. It's pretty puzzling how and why we still use such a crap voting system. Americans want elections but don't want to pay for them.

Personally, I think we should let the Sanders campaign do its own recount before any results are made official.

Well, funnily enough, their main complaint is that people's parties are being switched around without their knowing; but I believe the lawsuit is strictly about a purge of voters that cleared some 60k off the rolls, which sounds pretty normal actually.

The desired outcome is all Hillary votes become Bernie votes by way of the precedent set in Rubber v. Glue.

My old town in Arizona recently got stuck with a bigger pension bill than they wanted to pay but the court made them do it. So the town council put up a referendum on a 0.6% sales tax to pay for it. It got voted down and the town was forced to start browning out fire stations to make up the difference on the cash. Of course, everyone started freaking out and saying the town council didn't care about their safety and didn't know how to do their jobs. of course, this is in the same state that sold their state capital building to make up a budget deficit, leased the building back and then purchased it back in full a few years later at a huge loss to the state. Because you know, balanced budgets are fiscally conservative.

There will no doubt be exit polls and New York is apparently often very late at getting all the results in. That being said, any Clinton win at all is basically game over for Sanders so exit polls are probably enough.

Voters who HAD valid registrations, but find themselves purged from the voter rolls (some had their affiliation switched, incorrect addresses listed etc.).

The lawsuit wants to allow provisional ballots (accompanied by signed affidavits) to be counted for those voters who were registered before the deadline. It's a reasonable request, and I assume it will be granted. It's no cause for delaying the reporting of the result. At most just notify everyone that the numbers are subject to change if some of these voters cannot be verified in the coming weeks.

Some were hoping for an opening of the primary midway through the day, but that seems unlikely.

So apparently the lawyers for Sanders are arguing that people who claim the illuminati switched their party affiliation should be believed and be allowed to vote as democrats.

If the judge grants that, this could lead to weeks and weeks of bullshit.

Edit: central to their belief that the system is rigged is the idea that only Sanders supporters are getting purged from the rolls. This probably affects more Clinton voters than Bernie

There seems to have been a problem with the lovely NY Dem database and some voters are getting hosed over by getting unregistered or moved to random towns. Almost certainly won't impact the outcome, but it's pretty hosed up for people who want to participate.

Presumably they're seeking an injunction to let these people vote. The problem is that it's impossible to discern which voters are getting screwed and which are just idiots/opportunists trying to use the problem to un-disenfranchise themselves LIKE RATS.

Blaming grand conspiracy when "general bureaucratic incompetence" is likely the actual factor is a bit silly, but it is super hosed up that this (registration becoming inactive, completely random address/affiliation changes) happens to people without their knowledge and their votes should definitely be counted

I won't say the same about all the people still registered as independents harassing poll workers for provisional ballots, that's just a waste of time

If New York had day-of registration like a civilized state it would hardly matter.

And yeah, statistically likely that more Hillary voters are getting screwed than anyone else.

I don't really think there's any sort of relief needed. They can vote provisionally, and the NY Department of Elections can manually go and find their old voter registration forms and determine if they are eligible to vote or not.

if they had a legitimate grievance with the primary rules, why didn't they try to sue over them months prior?

Weird clerical errors are the reason provisional ballots exist, so elections officials can go back and verify information from those ballots and have them counted. This takes a while, and barring some really exceptional result the primary here will probably be mostly forgotten in a few weeks, so it won't really affect anything
