If the host fights in a safe spot they have the advantage. You have the embers health boost along with more estus, unless you were invaded long after using a bonfire. The invader can retreat to enemies, but that only helps you kill the host if they follow. Most will not. Also seed of giants completely negates that advantage.

Everything else usually gets dropped somewhere if an NPC fucks up and dies, especially their ashes which gives all their vendor poo poo to the vendor lady. When greirat died for me and I gave her his ashes, she started selling stuff he didn't even have.

Am i just supposed to put on my best fire resist gear, slap on Flash Sweat, and rush over to them, or is there a trick like you could do in the Old Iron King's castle in DS2? Yup, and chug estus like a madman. The items are an ember and the sacred flame pyromancy, which is pretty amusing but kind of hard to hit cause it's basically a punch in terms of hitbox. There's another lava pool with toxic mist (only way I know if to inflict toxic as a player. That I've seen, anyways) and a miracle/pyromancy catalyst. You can find the stairs to it next to where you find the pyromancy tome in the ruins.

Lost to the Deacons. I was maybe six hits away until I got turned into crystal. Any way to avoid that? Or is that pretty much a burn phase and that maybe I ought to have a Cursebite ring?

I've made a game of my co-oping for medals, specifically, the fight I have chosen, I race the host and try to refine my ability to speed run this particular encounter Ancient Wyvern. It's pretty funny to just haul rear end and ignore everything with well timed dodges. Phantoms can do the headstab too. I consider it a victory if I beat the host to it.

The vast majority of invasions I've done in the back half of the game have involved the host using a seed. They are ridiculously easy to get this time around, and most people have figured that out by the halfway point or so. Even a 1v1 fight where the host refuses to leave the room puts the invader at a massive disadvantage. Having half the health and half the estus charges is an insanely big deal considering how easy it is to roll away and heal without being punished. You have to deal waaay more damage to win unless they are too dumb to get out of the way and heal. But yeah the biggest issue is that everyone just posts up beside a bonfire and the nearest hostile enemy is a mile away, and very few people are dumb enough to chase an invader into a mob. I'd say it's still a better PvP experience overall than Bloodborne for me, but the lag / phantom hits are just as bad as ever and they seem intent on giving the host more and more advantages with each game. So basically DS3's PvP has higher highs and lower lows, I guess. The big chaotic fights where the host uses the finger are awesome, and the ones where 3 phantoms hide in a bonfire room are easily the worst PvP experiences of the series. Did they fire the guy who made all the cool fights in Demon's Souls? Speaking of second phases though, I was totally expecting Wolnir to bust out a giant sword or something and go nuts when I broke his bling. That fight was over super, super fast.
