"So the question is: who can best deliver that funding in a Turnbull Coalition government? It's about who has the ability and the knowledge and the contacts in government to go to the top of the list. Cathy wasn't able to do it - I will be."

Breeding pools for lovely career politicians. We should force politicians out into the real world where they can learn to fling roo poo at their mates and perform sick donuts. The political establishment would rather not have their replacements learn about ordinary Australians and grow a conscious.

Better to insulate them in a privileged, institutional bubble. So they can argue with other underdeveloped young adults over abstract, unrealistic political beliefs, fix elections and cook books without real social and legal ramifications. This allows politicians to graduate into the real world as fully formed shifty fuckers, ready to fight paper tigers. While simultaneously remaining clueless as to how the real world actually works.

Imagine if there were enough bikes around you didn't have to worry about people stealing your lovely bike because there's actually like twenty thosuand lovely bikes around, and also, no-one goddamn steals lovely bikes. imagine not having to wear a helmet because drivers aren't total arseholes (well they still are, but mostly only to other drivers)

Amusing poo poo in QLD parliament today.
The ALP used the LNPs rushed legislation against them.

quote:

A week is a long time in politics.

But on Thursday 21st April.. in the Queensland Parliament's Red Chamber... at 4.20pm.. 18 minutes must have seemed like an eternity to the LNP Opposition.
Earlier at 3.04pm the LNP's Ian Walker had risen to to start the second reading speech for the Electoral and Other Legislation Amendment Bill.
Unwittingly putting into a motion a plan the Labor Government had been working on since Tuesday.

Mr Walker had blindsided the Government then when he got his private members bill into the house with the support of the two Katter Australian Party MP's and former Labor mate Rob Pyne.
Labor was stunned. They had no idea this was going to happen. It would increase the number of MP's from 89 to 93.
Afterwards senior Government ministers met in a strategy meeting. They hatched a plan to gazump the LNP. That plan was Compulsory Preferential Voting.
The Labor brains trust kept it from their backbench for fear the scheme would leak to the LNP and the element of surprise would be lost.

For the best part of three days Lawrence Springborg and his team basked in the delight that it had wrested the political agenda from the Government.
After the lunch break on Thursday MP's spent 30 minutes delivering private members speeches.
At 3.04 Mr Walker stood up to deliver his second reading speech.
Then for more than an hour MP's, mostly Labor, voiced their opposition to the Walker bill.
Shortly after 4.08 the bells were rung to summon MP's to the chamber to vote on the question: Should the Bill be read a second time?
When they were tallied up the Ayes had 44 (LNP 41, KAP 2, Ind Pyne 1)
As debate moved to the clauses Labor sprang its trap.
Attorney General Yvette D'ath rose to seek leave to move amendments outside the long title of the bill.

The LNP had been told this would happen 18 minutes earlier.
It is doubtful they thought it was anything more than a political stunt.
But when the KAP mp's and another former Labor MP Billy Gordon voted with Labor the Opposition realised they were in strife.
Labor MP's sitting on the Treasury benches could hardly contain their delight as their opposite numbers convened hurriedly in groups of 3 and 4 in the chamber and in the lobby outside trying to figure out what to do.
Opposition Leader Lawrence Springborg crouched down beside Rob Pyne for an intense discussion.

The LNP filibustered until the dinner break at 6.30 to give themselves more time to try to change the minds of the cross-benchers.
But it was to no avail.
At 8.09pm the bill was read a third time and became law.
Within the space of a month Queensland politics had undergone a seismic shift.
We now have 4 year terms. We will get 4 new MP's and a return to Compulsory Preferential Voting.

Both sides played political games this week.

It remains to be seen if voters appreciate their antics.
