When I stop commissioning custom basses save up enough to get an OSW/ClubSport base, I will probably rebuild my cockpit. It's been added on to so much, it would be better to rebuild it using stuff I learned from the past few years of use.

As a guy that planned to build this, do you have any sage advice? I'm running 24" triples and still kind of use this PC for web stuff and other games.

That looks like a potentially terrible place for the keyboard tray. Easy and cheap, but terrible. I barely have clearance of my knees with my setup, a keyboard tray would absolutely not work for me in that position. Do a lot of measurements to a real car. Sketch it out to help with the measurement relationships. A sim rig probably won't match up exactly to a typical real car, but you will be able to tell what will be different, and hopefully what will not be comfortable or feasible.

Consider what your hardware could be in the future, and build with that equipment planned. I didn't think I would have triples when I built mine, so it's not as good as it could be, nor as rigid as it should be.

Make sure you like where your wheel/shifter/pedals will be. Triple check the measurements. I would have liked my wheel to be a touch lower, and I will need to adjust the whole rig to accommodate so my knees have room when I rebuild.

Paint it, it looks less bad that way. Don't choose all black. Mine is blue with the table top black, and it's bitchin'.

E: make sure your keyboard and mouse are comfortable to use when you need them, and completely out of your way when you don't. Especially since you are using it occasionally for normal computer stuff.

Has anyone tried using the pits yet in AC how is it?

It's kinda iffy. AC doesn't have a pit request function or pit strategy menu so you have to wait until getting into your pit box before you can select what you want done. Can change tires, add fuel and do repairs but can't change tire pressures. Hopefully they add some kind of way to select what you want done before going into the pits at some point.

At least there's an animated pit crew though to please everyone who won't shut up about GTR2's pits.

I use a pit manager app that let's you set presets for each car, and hot key those presets.

I'd really like a way to set up a proper GT3 season against the AI.

There's a lot of stuff in AC in general that feels like it was thrown in without much thought given to how people interact with it. Like there's nothing that I could find in the game to tell me how to adjust the turbo on the Lotus 98T when I was driving it for the first time earlier. That thing by the way is a hell of a lot of fun around Riverside.

I'm pretty sure you can do custom seasons through the career mode. I've downloaded a few custom careers that were just Blancpain or ADAC seasons.

I had to go to an Empty Box video from 2 years ago because I couldn't even find it in the guides on the AC forum. I can't drive that thing with 100% boost though so I went back to the much safer F3 car that got modded in.

Somewhat related, apparently gRally isn't quite dead yet, they made a dev blog post which is horribly formatted on their god awful website about the co-driver. Which sounds like it's just gonna be a converted version of the AC co-driver app. I'm still not convinced this is ever coming out though.

I've been messing with project cars since it's the only sim that supports the CV1 that I own. Driving the lotus 25 makes me wish there was a new grand prix legends. I just want to mess around with AI in really old F1 cars on all the historic tracks.

Asking a mod I assume, a bunch of new thread tags got added.

Unrelated to anything, I found a copy of GTR in a pawn shop today. Didn't buy it but it was really cool to see. Did buy an Indycar game that Codemasters apparently made though.

E: It's not great. It's an all-oval game on a console. Also F1 2016 stuff is starting to pop up, sounds like it's a few small physics tweaks, add in Baku and Haas, and bring back career mode and the safety car.

Does that mean the bit about VR support is outdated? I haven't been paying attention since I decided to not be an early adopter for once.

Yeah, that's outdated. Here's some new info to replace that:

Project Cars: Fully supports Oculus Rift and HTC Vive

Live For Speed: Fully supports Oculus Rift and HTC Vive

iRacing: Currently supports Oculus Rift DK2. Work is being done to support Rift CV1, no info yet on HTC Vive

Assetto Corsa: After much childish behavior from both consumers and the developer, Rift CV1 is being worked on. HTC Vive will be considered when he receives it.

Dirt Rally: Recently messed up their update and there is no VR support at all anymore. It's being worked on and maybe Rift CV1 soon.

For now, Rift CV1 support = Rift DK2 support. DK2 is not officially supported by Oculus anymore but it still works for the time being. It is not guaranteed to work forever.

VR racing is so enjoyable.

Haven't been playing Dirt recently, it used to have a bug in VR that made it render at a lower resolution, this very pixilated. Hope they fix this for the cv1 update.

Happy that AC is finally getting updated. I still play on my dk2 with a runtime switch and the in game details are so much better than project cars. Though the car setup and other menus aren't rendered, so full support will be a huge improvement.

Project Cars was really improved with the consumer release. No more shadow bug and performance is improved. It would be great if they fully rendered the interiors, though it is rare that you ever actually look behind yourself in a race versus using mirrors. I'd play this more if I could nail down good g27 settings, honestly.

I like it a lot, though the environment could do with a few more unique objects. It's one of those tracks where the first few laps I got lost a lot, but once you get it down it's a very good drive.

The mod description thanks a laser scanning company in Poland and the track itself, so I'd assume it's something the track had a hand in to try and raise its profile.

Yellow/red lights on the wheel/dash of my digital car on my tiny poo poo old monitor seem more than enough indication to shift, assuming engine audio alone isn't enough like it is with many cars (especially for non-offroad racing).

Extra peripherals for even RPM gauges seem overkill to me*, let alone the monstrosity this gentleman has built.

* Even more so with VR coming into its own in the coming years so any peripheral not directly interacted with becomes superfluous.
