I thought it was well understood around here that most social and labor progress was won through disagreeable methods. BLM is doing what they need to do and it's working on many levels in spite of how little credit they are being given. I'm eager to see them become an even more powerful political force, why would I piss in their oatmeal?

I don't think I ever did this, but was pleased with the title you gave me. I'm sorry that you have had a a life filled with poo poo due to the racism that was built into the system by the whites. Maybe if we work together your grand kids and mine will only have to ask us what it was like to live in a racially unjust society.

Spatula City posted:Agreed, stereotyping people is bad, and using statistical models to prove something about a group is a slippery slope to awful things. It's definitely understandable why many non-white people have tried to shut white people out of discussions, though. Clear over-correction for the long history of not being allowed a voice. It doesn't make it right or justified. All of this is clutter. 'splaining is bad and all but it's not the real problem with Talmonis and people like him, which is the more specific issue that he can't imagine how to support a movement in any way but leading it. That's way past just talking over people. He sees a movement he isn't involved with dedicated to combating problems he doesn't face, and he assumes he knows better than everyone, and that the only reason people wouldn't gratefully fall in line and follow his suggestions is because their secret real goal is just to call people like him racist. Despite accusations to the contrary, I haven't actually attempted to speak on behalf of BLM yet, but I feel comfortable saying that if it comes down to it, we'll take the reduction in state-sanctioned murder even if it means Talmonis doesn't get insulted quite as much as he could be.

Jesus you're an awful poster. For whomever asked for a good rundown of OK's lovely tax breaks and how they somehow made OK shittier, this is a pretty good piece. It should be noted that since this was written our education system has started to run school for 4 days a week and many districts are closing school days/weeks early this summer. Also, our huge deficit caused our credit rating to fall.

At this point, I'm not sure I can even describe it as malicious, just a mule-headed bloody minded kneejerk against ever admitting that anything they've even thought was wrong, ever. Even if it means sitting in the dark with the gas fumes wafting through.

One of the wisest things I've discovered is the ability to go "you know, as a straight white male I don't need to have an outspoken opinion on X and/or Y" when it comes to stuff. Just let other people speak and support the side that's on the right side of history. Which leads to hilarious things like my Smith College educated friend saying "you're the least white person here!" in our get togethers. Do Castillians count as white still? Always been confused by that.
