Oath Complete! Lets start with the low quality "Drybrush Grey then base" Oh yeah, thats where it's at, I can feel the Judges points already...... And here some stuff I spent more than half an hour on. (glue takes time to dry people!) For my first time painting WWII tanks since making scale models as a kid, I'm fairly happy with these two.

This is a pretty cool thread, I'm a new/returning painter (but was never very good before, actually developing some basic skills now) and I like the idea of sharing work and pushing each other to complete a lot of minis, but my schedule is also super chaotic so I'm a little hesitant to commit to something, (but that's the point right?) and I don't really need to win prizes or anything. Should I just stop being a baby and do an oath? Or is it cool if I just kinda loiter in the thread or what? Grey Hunter posted:And here some stuff I spent more than half an hour on. Its a fun game, it needs a few rough edges filed off, but that never going to happen, I've got enough now for about 1000-1500 points on both sides, but then its going to be a bit of fun. Shame, as I love the tripods.

Hey, just checking in to say I got my prize, thanks Iris of Ether and of course, thanks krushgroove! I wasn't as consistent with oaths this year but a friend of mine was looking at some of my models and we were talking about painting techniques. Lots of the stuff I tried out was because of oathing and I got some really good advice. I hope I can be more active next year.

Dude, just oath. I have been crazy busy. You can find a few hours each month to paint a thing. I haven't even started my oath for this month yet, and I work tomorrow. It'll get done though cause I gotta complete my oath. The oath thread has been incredible for pushing my painting forward. You figure out a lot of stuff when you've made a commitment to yourself to paint.

Oath Complete Sadly have not based. My daughter was poorly this week and this made things a bit more pressured. It stopped me agonising endlessly over the skin though. And my all for one shot I only did one oath. Here is the burgeoning cult horde (or civilain militia or anything else they could be used for). I am really enjoying doing these models as they are so much more stimulating that power armour. I also love these Copplestone sculpts and the character that painting brings out in them. (They aren't attached to each other or anything, final attachment is post painting) Essentially I have a large structure that is going to be part of the base, and it is currently primed ocre, whereas I will be priming my Heldrake black. Oath Complete! Claiming Backstory! Delta crouched down behind a dumpster in a dirty alleyway, shifting uneasily in the flickering light of the old lamppost standing at the alley entrance a few feet away. He listened tensely to his ear piece and the chatter of his squad. Alpha was snapping orders at Bravo again as they swept the building for suspects. Delta had been assigned to watch the back door in case any of Joker's goons tried to make a break for it. He adjusted the weight of his riot shield and wiped the rain off his visor again. Another cold, wet night in Gotham that Delta was stuck out in. On nights like this he wished the Batman would just hurry up and get the job done already so that he could just go home. Its not like the city him pays enough for this crap. "Man, its cold tonight!" Delta muttered to himself as he rubbed his hands together, glancing up and down the alleyway. It was at that moment he noticed the extra shadow out of the corner of his eye. Turning slowly, ever so slowly, Delta turned back towards the dumpster, his eyes slowly tracking upwards to the figure crouched on top of it staring down at him, cape just beginning to snap in the rising wind. They talk a lot about him around the station, you never can quite tell how much of it is real and how much is just talk. But that voice? They were not making that part up. Delta had always wondered what it would be like to be on the receiving end of it. Tonight he found out. "Your second mistake was holstering your gun while standing watch, Officer McNaulty." "My, uh, sec-second mistake?" stammered Delta. "Wh-what was my first?" The shadow slowly rose to it full height, looming over Delta like a collossus. "Your first mistake, was taking that bribe." Delta swallowed. Why oh why did the Batman have to turn up tonight? Also, holy crap another year gone already? Must be time for my 2016 One For All! 80 models painted! When I think about it a surprising amount of this has seen action in tournaments already, which is nice. Oath Complete Claiming technical challenge: I've never painted camouflage before. The guy in the middle was my test - I used a different method for the other two, and that was definitely for the best. Claiming All for One: I had a couple more false starts and stuff that I wasn't able to include in an oath. Still, I did twenty minis in three months (since I skipped March), and that's pretty good after a painting hiatus of nearly twenty years. Save Da Whales is a separate thing with its own rules, and importantly applies only to Oaths failed in Oath Season 7. I'd like to add a Referral bonus competition of some sort as well. In the past I thought giving a point out for each person who says 'goon so-and-so referred me' but now I think it should be more along the lines of a contest, where if you refer someone and when they post their first Oath they mention you by name and Oath at least 3 times (maybe finishing at least once?) the referring goon gets put into a prize draw to win something from one of our sponsors. The rules would be something like this: Referral Contest! To encourage new and past members to join us, YOU have been deputized - and you can win a fantastic prize! Bring in a new participant, or encourage a previous Oath Thread participant who Oathed 3 or less times in any single Oath Season from #4, #5 or #6 (I have access to the spreadsheets going back that far) to join us in our monthly painting endeavors! For each new or returning person who posts 3 Oaths during Season 7 (up to the end of April 2017), you will earn one entry in a prize draw at the end of the Season featuring something awesome from one of our prize sponsors! OATH SEASON COMPLETED!!!! Got a piece of a Zone Mortalis wall painted. The paint scheme is super fast to do and looks... OK.... I think I'll try with a black dip at the end instead of brown on the next one. My technical challenge was doing the streaking texture on the flat brown on the wall. Again, I'm not completely happy with it, but I think it's a step in the right direction. It's hard to come up with stuff that looks good, but can be accomplished quickly and with minimal effort. Claiming All In One! This season, I painted most of an Eldar Corsair army for 40k. I've got a couple of tanks and some more jetbikes left to do: I designed, cast, and painted a ton of terrain. This was my first foray into 3d printing, and I like the way things were turning out. Getting all of this out for the photo reminded me that I need to finish up this terrain line and get it out for public consumption: I painted a bunch of terrain from THMiniatures, a great company that has a new Kickstarter going on RIGHT NOW. I think I have a thing for resin terrain. I also painted some random bits and bobs. A dragon for Warhammer Fantasy Kings of War 9th Age, a rifle platoon for FoW (including a tiny Captain Rogers to lead them), and a host of converted hot wheels cars for a Warlands campaign at my local club: In short, I had a really productive year, full of challenges and inspiration. Thanks a million, to tha Oath Thread organizers, judges, and other participants! It's a huge endeavor, and I appreciate every bit of it. Oath Complete! Challenge/Theme: A technical thing I have not really done before. I am a vet of the oath thread, so I don't have many things I have not tried before. So today I tried to do a Zenith-y paint on the ghosts infused with this model. THis might have been a challenge way before but I honestly don't remember. The halogen and the painfully warm backdrop did not do me many favors but I think you can get the idea. Ok, some last day bonuses... I rolled a Six!: my objective throne thing. I should have done this back in July when I did the other 4 objectives, but I think that month was the flag thing, and I had a flag on one and I did not want to double dip or something. Either way it forced me to paint another objective this month, something I wanted to do anyway to get a set of 5 for my chaos. (is it still 5 for max objectives? Maelstrom is some crazy poo poo...) Box Art: Another one I should have done a few times with my Wrath of Kings, but anyway, here, my Ravenscar look a lot like these guys from their card art: Speed Painting: I think at least half my oaths were done on the last day because I am a horrible person. Even if I did not oath them on the last day I definitely painted them on the last day. But this was officially done in July. Back Story: (here goes..) Nonn feels something he has not felt in decades. The humans are near. Nonn thought they had chosen to never come back into his lands. They lost more than their lives the last time they tried to take it from him. Nonn seems to be content with eternity as long as people don't disturb him. Conflict is a messy thing. He would rather not fight these pathetic beings. He has an army, armies don't interest him much anymore. Nonn has taken up many hobbies in his long existance, and these beings have impeeded his greatest love once before. They paid dearly. Nonn thought they learned their lesson. Wisdom dies with the old it seems. The intruders will pay for what they have done, though making them pay inevitably causes more havoc in the present, which is a problem. But in the long term it is better, and Nonn has all the time in the world. It is time to harvest some souls. The souls that dared to step on his lawn. ULTIMATE OATH COMPLETE!!! The challenge this month is Freehand, at which I am terrible. Said freehand is barely perceptible on the back of the wizard's cloak. (The freehand in this case was done as kind of an experiment; I painted the cloak in VMC Black Red, shaded it, then painted the skull on in varying shades of grey. The final step was an overspray of Citadel Mephiston Red, which muted the underlying grey tones and made it look more like a faded design on the cloth. Sadly, I overdid it and then had to head out to a thing, leaving little time to fix it. But I'll remember to tweak this technique for future models; I rather like the effect!) And that's the end of the season for me. I'd like to thank all the judges, as well as the other participants; I'm looking forward to seeing how we challenge and inspire each other in the next season!

OATH COMPLETE THEME - Impasto Impressionism - by way of BACKSTORY So, I wanted a super ambitious challenge this month, and I'm gonna give a different sort of ambitious backstory. My family has this weird untrained artist streak in them. My Grandma had 8 kids (catholic), and who knows how many grand kids/ my cousins. A huge percentage of us do some art although except for one insanely talented cousin none of us actually has any training whatsoever. Grandma was my first connection with art. I remember her painting on warm Georgia summer afternoons. She painted a lot of still lifes, but what stuck with me were her impasto impressionist figure paintings. Wildly blocky with splashes of pastels and vivid colors. Back before I knew what impressionism was those paintings stuck with me. Applying this to a miniature, however. Yikes. I tried just sort of stippling on unthinned paint, but that ended in a pretty cool watercolor look as I was essentially just wet blending the insanely thin Reaper paints I use. No, what I need to do was thicken my paints So with some super heavy gloss gel, some incredibly thick paints, and size 4 flat brush I set to work. It was a pretty frustrating experience trying to get it to be sloppy and flowing without being too sloppy incoherent. Did it work? Ehhhh. I'm not sure it looks good, but it was pretty much exactly what I was imagining. Sadly, my aunts and uncles took all the impasto impressionist paintings when she passed, but I've got a few painting of flowers hanging about including this one in my hallway: Thanks everyone for a great oath thread! This year I've figured out some super technical stuff and grown a lot.

I've also got Money represented in the treasure chest! I've also done Box Art on the mechanical attendant, based on the Wyrd paint job from first edition. It also has a birthday hat and present because it was a birthday gift, so now it is a birthday robot. All for One! Including my painted KR Multicase! I'm surprised by how many models I painted this year. I've slowed down considerably as uni stuff kicked in, but early in the year I was doing whole crew boxes! Oath Complete For the technical challenge, I made a first attempt at using weathering powders. I think they worked quite well! Galaspar fucked around with this message at 10:58 on May 1, 2016 |

Schmetterling posted:Oath Complete! Oddly enough, feathers make a great tool when doing veining of marble. Not sure how they translate down to the mini painting world, but it might be something to look into.

NEW THREAD IS LIVE AND WAITING! The Oath Thread, Season 7: Always Be Painting (Your Gaming/Figure Models) Please keep all questions for Season 6 in THIS thread, so we don't get things mixed up. Note that the last post of the Season 7 OP is a general Announcements post, I'll try to keep various thread announcements in there, copy/pasted from the thread. I'll also try to make a monthly Challenge post with the details of each month's Challenge and copy/paste questions from participants into that post. The post will also be linked from the OP so things should be much easier to find. The OP is also split up so it should be easier to read through (but there's very little changed in the rules, the info is just organized a bit better, I think). I'll be doing the final random prize draws and the collection of April photos today or tomorrow. Get Oathing!

Ugleb posted:For a moment there I thought you had posted manga pics as reference and would show the model next. Then I realised I was looking at it. Well done sir! Thanks man! Last month was stupidly busy so I had to cram in most of my painting time into just a couple days, glad it turned out okay.
