Beyoncé has such a huge following because there is so very, very little mainstream music written about blackness or femininity (and indeed black femininity) that isn't filtered through a white male perspective on those things. I'm not really into her, but I respect what she does and can see why people follow her like they do - young women are pretty starved of messages like hers, so of course they grab onto what little they get with both hands. She's also a great measure of who is and isn't a fucktarded idiot. Fucktarded idiots are utterly incapable of not complaining about Beyoncé while falling over themselves to tell you they don't listen to Beyoncé. It's pop music. If someone is upset about Beyoncé but not, I dunno, Fifth Harmony, it probably isn't the music they're upset about.

She and Jay-Z are vaguely associated with the Obamas, with her singing at his second inauguration, so she's an enemy now. So big albums since then have caused some, notably Bill O'Reilly, to talk about how her sexiness is turning young girls into whores and how the Obamas approve of this. The hate really started going when her video for Formation hit. The song, as far I know, was about black southerners partying and stuff. However, the video had shots of BLM-related graffiti ("Stop shooting us!") and a police car sinking in a Katrina-like flood. That, combined with the black leather outfits of the dancers (Those fishnets were worn by the Black Panthers, who were exactly as racist and murderous as the KKK!), got idiots thinking she wants all cops to die. Her Super Bowl performance had the same black leather outfits, so it's an obvious attack on cops too. A few people, like Matt Walsh, were triggered even further by the rainbow decorations of Coldplay, which were totally gay propaganda and not just the motif of their most recent album cover. Anyway, Lemonade comes along and she hasn't renounced her blackness, so obviously it's just as racist as her Super Bowl performance. Not only is she continuing to racist-ly be a black woman, but in some of her songs she's ANGRY black woman. Rumor has it some of it is about Jay-Z cheating on her. The rumored third woman is fashion designer Rachel Roy. This has caused some other IoSM to send hate messages to tv chef Rachel Ray. Slacktivist, the blog that does the meticulous Left Behind takedowns, suggested that in addition to probably being racist, some of the people mad about the album are so upset because they're also cheating on their wives.

My feed is completely overrun by posts about beef. All I see is beef.
