Palin's VP nomination is a good point to see where the politics of the GOP meshed with the celebrity of it. Palin was meant to appeal to disenchanted Hilary voters who were upset about Obama's nomination, and nobody counted on her slowly taking over and playing media games rather than showcasing some political acumen. In hindsight, Palin is one of the reasons Trump managed to snag the nomination because the GOP's meshing of politics and entertainment really went into full tilt there.
