Alongside the "pus of man" erupting out of various hollows, there's the whole thing with tree branches growing out of people. The pilgrims like Yoel have little roots pushing out from the sides of those stones they carry, the seemingly impaled bodies on the High Wall are actually hollows sprouting into trees, the Pilgrim Butterflies in Lothric Castle appear to be an advanced stage of whatever is happening to the pilgrims, and the Undead Settlement has corpses with roots growing out of them...sitting comfortably in rocking chairs.

If the pus of man represents the Abyss, then those roots and branches are certainly tied to Chaos in some way.

Altogether it looks to be an indication that those problems lurking in the background at the time of DS1 have become full-fledged pandemics as of now.

Another thing to note is that most of the "pus of man" enemies are in castle lothric/ the high wall and if you agree that UG is where the abyss has risen to then that would make alot of sense if castle lothric was just literally built above the abyss. Also IIRC there is a giant chasm into nothing right in the area where you fight one of the earliest "pus of man" enemies on the rooftop next to the crystal lizard.

Also Heide knights are very powerful and spastic in their movements.

It happens all the time in DS3, but the heide knights in particular are doing it loads. I get the feeling they didn't really update a lot to take into account the Bloodborne-speed stuff, since the system sort of falters at the faster things in 2.

This is evident in a number of places, such as slower weapons + no poise combining to make it much more difficult than before to use slower weapons, when something as weak as a rat can start an animation halfway through your swing and stun you out of it.

They made all their new enemies have faster animations and made the player's roll more powerful, but a lot of the game wasn't updated in the same way.

Oceiros is a crazy fucker who tried doing dragon stuff, Shanalotte was created using dragon stuff.

It could be just one of those things that From likes to throw in, but it could be elaborated on in DLC, maybe.

There's a theory that Ocelotte is the Firekeeper, but there's no indication if you just go by her circumstances other than that she, like Shanalotte, levels you up. Unless maybe you consider the fact that killing Oceiros lets you into the Untended Graves, where the Firekeeper is most definitely not answering anyone.

Some thoughts on PVP (that might apply to PVE):

Right now with the game the way it is there is very very little variation in builds, weapons or play styles. In pvp currently it feels like we have little functional difference in the PVP arena. With poise removed everyone just stays below 70% equipment load and most builds are mostly the same:

Soft cap core attributes

Pick int, strength, dex or faith.

The weapon choice makes little difference in fights, I say this knowing fully well that a lot of people are going to be very upset with me here. However once you start a fight they are all more or less the same:

Start the fight

Get hit

Roll 50 times

Chug 20 times

Lose/win

It’s not possible to punish an estus chug the animation is much too fast it is however possible to punish a roll although it is extremely hard. Rolling is too efficient not to spam constantly.

I agree that something should be done about the sacred flame glitch, but in the meantime, after you fall for it once, it's easy enough to not fall for it again. Sacred Flame is incredibly difficult to actually land and you basically only get it if the enemy trades with you - so if you see them 2 handing a talisman and casting iron flesh, don't trade.

The best part about these games is the second playthrough, when you come up to a boss that kicked your rear end the first time around and completely turned the tables.

My first guy's fight against Pontiff went... pretty poorly. But this time around I came at him with a Greataxe and I loving tore him to pieces. It felt great :black101: Probably even better than when I took the Whirligig Saw to Ludwig (gently caress that rear end in a top hat).

Yeah some of the maps look like they're from 10 years ago w/their repeating textures, it's a shame they had to tone down the settings so much. I enjoyed DS2 but as far as it's maps went, a lot of its zones were essentially glorified corridors however unique they were in terms of aesthetics and feel. Having shortcuts to wrap around to feels a lot more organic than heading straight forward non-stop whether it's just wrapping around to the same bonfire or wrapping around bridging zones.

Everyone rags on harvest valley for the elevator to a lava lake (one of my favorite zones in any of these games based on asthetic alone) but turning around before Mytha and seeing just a huge open lovely space filled with a repeated brick texture was awful. They could have filled it with some spinny gears or draped cloth or anything and it would have looked better
