The idea I'd like to float is the concept of Total Sobriety Orders: if you drive drunk or cause trouble in public while drunk, you can be legally ordered to stop drinking completely. Possibly even to the point of having all the booze, metho, rubbing alcohol and aftershave in your house confiscated. If you still find a way to get alcohol in your system, you face jail time. Anyone who serves or gives you booze faces jail time.

A co worker had one on his car and it is pretty tamper proof. Supposedly the unit goes nuts even if the car battery goes flat. You have to get the car towed to a mechanic who is registered to work on vehicles with the interlock to get it to re-active the car.

Interlocks are generally proprietary, and you need a specific software suite to interface with them and gently caress around. It'd be pretty hard for one guy to be able to gently caress with all the types of interlocking systems there are.

Yeah don't touch it, its a scam that they refuse to fix. The AEC wants this issue settled but the Libs refused to back an ALP bill in 2010 and they can still pull this poo poo.
