Why did you gild your omni-beams but not your consoles? Tac and sci consoles are (relatively) cheap to upgrade to gold, and you get a sizable boost from doing it.

Spectacular rng. I'm mostly out of upgrade stuff, hoarding the adv/elite queue rewards for the research weekend. I only have Iconian rep at tier 3, working on getting it up there though. As for the beam arrays on the front and omni beams on the back, there's a reason I called it 'Lazy dps'. I just point myself in the relative direction of hostiles and everything in a 250 degree arc gets fried. I do have a set of 5 dual beam arrays I was messing around with but :effort:

Why the gently caress are you running omni beams and beam arrays? Put arrays in the back, and broadside, or get some Dual Beam Banks.

I mean, credit where it's due, you've got something a poo poo load better than you did before. But it still needs work.

Mostly since the two omni beam arrays do just slightly less damage than equivalent regular beam arrays. I can pretend I'm an escort with dbb/turret but with a huge firing arc.

Well, as it's coming near that time I end up coming back after months or longer of being away, I do have to admit that the new expansion does look interesting. I've always been a TOS fan, so it's sounding exactly like something I'm going to goof around in, but I'm still in that deciding phase. Going from how much TOS stuff I've picked up over the years when it's popped, if I go with the starter pack, all I'm going to get is the ripped uniforms and a title whereas if I go the special pack I get a bunch of ships, three more costume dressups, and some extra tiddly crap. Then there's something I saw somewhere that it looks like it's limited character types that will be available like Human Female Engineer or Vulcan Male Sciences. I understand wanting to keep it to the TOS era stuff, but limiting things that much is enough to give me pause.

The first test builds are up on Tribble now. Race selection is very limited at this time (Human, Vulcan, Andorran, and Tellurite), but there aren't any restrictions beyond that. You can have whatever you want, be it a Vulcan engineer, a Tellurite scientist, or anything else.

Given that we might see some... exaJJerated story later this summer, the options might expand.

I take it will be like the Romulans where you start off in your own restricted part of space where you eventually join up with one of the two real factions and then the storyline will take you up to like level 30 or so and then you start up the shared story arcs?

As I'm one of those heretics who likes both flavors of Trek I'm completely fine with any AbramsTrek additions. I wish I could remember what link I was looking at but it listed a very narrow character selection like the Male Romulan was like the TOS depiction with a blurb about being an officer of that era while the Female Romulan was with the V brow and a Romulan Republic infiltrator who'd worked their way into the Tal'Shiar. Granted I don't know how old that link was and what's going to end up being legit when things go live, but drat I've come to really like being able to craft out an alien. It was the only way I could make a proper looking TOS era Klingon.

So far there are 6 TOS specific missions listed (including the tutorial) before you continue with the Federation storyline (the first mission being "stranded in space") at level 9.

The only thing that did was make me paranoid with every episode that I was going to miss it and have to do the mission over again just to find it. Luckily they were all in pretty obvious places but that didn't stop me from freaking out every time until I found it.

I hope you're not a completionist, because some of the data-mined objectives will take awhile:

quote:

Complete 3 Primary Specailizations
Reach level 10 in all 3 Admirality Campaigns
Reach Rank 5 in All 9 Reputations (this includes the New Temporal Defense Rep)
Reach Rank 4 in all 6 Duty Officer Commendation Categories

6 TOS missions totally sounds a like a great reason to make a fresh start character with no reputation, kill accolades, mark 14 gear, rare lockbox poo poo, traits, etc.

Totally.

new Crystalline Entity Event

For the next three weeks, from May 19th at 9:00 AM PT to June 9th at 10:00AM PT, Federation, Klingon, and Romulan Republic Captains between levels 50-60 can queue up for our 10-captain “Crystalline Cataclysm” event to defeat the Crystalline Entity and earn one Crystal Shard every 20 hours. After collecting 14 of them, players can complete a new Event Reputation project to be rewarded with 50,000 Dilithium Ore, 500 Fleet Marks, 250 Marks of their choice (Fleet, Omega, Romulan, Nukara, Dyson, Undine, Delta, Iconian or Terran Marks), and the new Crystalline Absorption Matrix Console!

Adapted from crystalline matter salvaged from shards of crystalline entities, this matrix is able to absorb incoming energy damage when engaged. The matrix uses absorbed energy to fire and amplify highly focused Matter Conversion Beams at multiple targets which are capable of piercing through ships.

Affects foe [3 max]
10 kilometer range; 180 degree cone
2 minute recharge
To self: +500 All Energy Damage Resistance
Every 3 seconds, to 3 random targets in forward 180’ arc: Apply MatterConversion Beam for 308.2 Antiproton Damage
Once per second when hit by Energy Damage, +13.3% Bonus Damage for Matter Conversion Beam

Starship Weapons Training

I'm not exaggerating when I say it would need to be in the high millions for me to even consider it.

Getting multiple sets of gear to UR/Gold is no joke, nor are the lockbox exclusive must-have traits. From defunct lockboxes no less.

Then we get into the topic of lobi gear etc.

Oh and the millions of fleet credits that literally take a year or more to get in real time. gently caress that.

I'll just set my UI to "TOS theme" and pretend I did it.
