so i've blown through a few bucks already on pacer because im bad at using it and holy poo poo there are a lot of documents on this case, but google yesterday threw a couple of shitfits and filed multiple motions of objection to block testimony from two of oracle's experts. google first claims that an apache exec cannot testify because it's all heresay. oracles response basically shits all over google because their objections don't actually fall under the scope of the rules they're claiming and he's in part rebutting testimony about apache from one of google's own witnesses. another big part of his testimony is about internal apache emails that say stuff like this:quote:“we are, in fact, infringing on the [Sun] copyright if we distribute something that has not passed the TCK and *we know that.* This makes us *already* doing illegal things (in fact, Android using Harmony code is illegal as well).” (Exhibit 1, TX 5046) oracle has also submitted proposal summary judgement orders so the judge could just sign and wrap this up at any point.

is the idea that it saves you having to explicitly check types in the caller before you're able to use type-specific methods and fields? isn't catching an exception pretty slow? i feel like this is not something youd want to do all over the place.

I think both Android and Java SE are in evidence, I assume as a part of Oracle's case. Alsup seemed pretty pissed about both Oracle and Google that they inflicted this PC on the jury, so it might be some kind of joint effort. But the good news is that they managed to get *.java associated with notepad.exe on that PC.
