Cost and pricing scheme are the major selling points for me, but the amount of agency their CS has to resolve an issue has been a huge bonus.

I do all my texting through hangouts as well so I missed txts.

Fwiw I am a happy recently new Nexus 6p owner on Fi who is on track to save at least $15 in my first month vs. At&t . In Atlanta I have only a few times run into service issues I believe are focused around particular buildings I imagine experiencing similar problems with a single provider

Just started my port from Sprint to Google Fi. I was a SERO customer for 10 years, and my service with Fi over the past few weeks has been great. Happy to be rid of Sprint.

Actually, I'm using T-Mo 80% of the time and it's better. Also, my two interactions with customer service were far-and-away better. As a data point for those interested, the port was done in 15 minutes.

I panicked a bit when I went to activate and it warned me that it could take up to 2 business days to transfer the number but less than 10 minutes later I was notified the transfer was complete. Now I'm almost exclusively on T-Mobile according to Signal Spy. I'm not sure how or why I put up with Sprint for 13 years. I did notice that it doesn't connect to my Airrave though. I still have 2 lines and the Airrave through Sprint and my Nexus 5X wants nothing to do with it.

I can't send text messages through hangouts. Or, I haven't figured it out yet. It's just type the phone number in the box, right? I get an option to call them, but not send a text. Also, I can't receive texts sent to my device via the web, unless I just haven't figured it out yet.

Personally, I found the convenience of being able to text on my computer not worth having to use hangouts over Messenger. Your SMS/MMS will route over WiFi either way if available, the only thing Hangouts gives you is the synchronization with desktop / other devices.

Yes, automatically sending 2 factor auth codes to the device you are trying to log in from is a great idea! I haven't used it in a long time. I stopped using it because it wouldn't cache images properly from MMS and the app would jump up and down as I scrolled through a thread while the images loaded in the background.

Hangouts is 100% flawless all the time on my 5X. SMS, MMS, VM, video, etc. Being able to text/picture message/make/receive calls from a computer is the bee's knees too.

So I've been full-time Google Fi for two days. I don't send a lot of text messages, but sending them from the computer is crucial. 99% of my life is done through my @mybusiness.com e-mail address which runs google apps - my e-mail, calendar, Play music, etc. The only significant thing that's done through my old @gmail.com legacy account is Project Fi which is not usable without an @gmail.com address. I have sent and received a few text messages from my phone (using Hangouts). Logging into the computer (under either account) doesn't reveal a way to see existing, reply, or send new text messages. Can somebody walk me through what I'm missing?

To start a new SMS convo directly from gmail click the phone icon and type a number or search for someone, hover mouse over the result and click SMS (or phone if you want to place a call via Gmail, which is the best thing ever) Hangouts integration is super awesome. I think the only downside is that it might be using data for SMS/MMS if you enable it, but I haven't actually tested if it does. e: I should note that the setting in step 1 is basically saying "dear Google, please reroute all my SMS through your gmail infrastructure instead of delivering them as cellular SMS" as opposed to "dear phone, please use the hangouts app as the default SMS client." The #1 you've got is not exactly how it appears in my settings, but I do think the setting you're describing is on - I am sending and receiving all the text messages via Hangouts on my phone. What you describe in gmail (which is what I'm looking for) isn't there. I can click to call people through that screen, but no text messages.

I've used fi on my 6p for 2 weeks now and my only major gripe is the call quality is awful and nowhere near my MotoXP15 on TMob.....even when I force the 6p to the same Tmob tower by my house I always was on before, it sounds like poo poo. It's bad enough where I'm having to call people back via my landline, which I never had to do before. The data speed tests I did on the previous page of the thread in various spots were very much acceptable though, so this is disappointing. It also never uses wifi calling unless I kick it into airplane mode, I'd at least thought it would at my house but apparently fi always choosest the shittiest cell signal over the strongest wifi (even your own). When I was traveling from Sacramento to SF over the last two weeks I can just watch it keep switching networks between Sprint and TMobile and dropping all the connections. I'm really hoping the call quality issues are the service and not the phone because I really like the phone and my last day to return it is tomorrow. I would just switch to the Tmobile Prepaid $50 5gig plan. My current Tmobile service is still going on another number so I might put the sim into the 6p just to make sure the phone isn't also the problem. ...yeah Tmobile sounds better on the 6p than Fi. Yeah, there was definite voice quality issues even using wifi and when not on wifi you could watch Fi kick down into HSPA or 3G/2G to make voice calls, which were not as clear as Tmobile's LTE voice calling. This guys review was pretty much spot on for me. http://venturebeat.com/2015/12/28/google-project-fi-review/ If all you used the Fi phone for was data or for calls via Hangouts/wifi it would be greeat. Using it as a regular cell phone isn't quite there yet. At least leaving was just as easy as joining (just a few clicks) and ported my number back to Google Voice in a day. I'll give it a year and try again.

Yeah, I'm not certain if I'm having voice quality issues on Fi, or if it's because I've been using it in places with marginal signal (and where I would have no service before when using TMobile). Like, now I have good service at home for the most part, but that's because I now I have WiFi calling when before I had a weak TMobile signal. But when I'm at work, I still get a bit of "wait, what did you say?". Or when I was trying to make a call in the middle of nowhere WI last weekend to someone else in the middle of nowhere WI. Who's responsible for poor quality in that situation? I've only had it a couple of weeks. I should test it out more scientifically. I'll probably give it two months before deciding if I want to go back to the TMobile Nerd Plan. Fi ends up being a bit more expensive for my usage and the better service in marginal areas is how I justify the additional cost.

Like I said, I've been using it in places I don't frequently go (and normally wouldn't have had a signal, anyway). I need to test it out in a controlled situation. Driving on I-39 between Rockford and Bloomington. Not a trip I often take, and when I have (and wasn't driving), I'd have issues getting even 3G, not to mention LTE, on TMobile. Signal seemed to be better on Fi, but I was driving this time and didn't exactly monitor my phone, but I had issues when calling, but I can't honestly say I tried calling in the same spot when I had TMobile. I'm mainly in Peoria, IL. I've had dead spots with both TMobile and Sprint in the past. I'm hoping Fi would fill in the blanks when combining the two.

Would be nice if it worked out for you but I can imagine Fi be vastly shittier in the boonies than major metro areas. Mostly because every service is lovely in the boonies other than Verizon basically.

I've taken a few trips with a friend on Virgin Mobile recently and he has service when I do not. I've heard good things about US Cellular around here, too. I mean, none of the services are bad along the major highways anymore (except TMobile just not working in most of Iowa) and I don't need my phone for anything critical, so I care more concerned about the cost than the service most of the time.

I had my T Mobile MotoXP and Fi 6p side by side in and around San Jose/SF/Oakland/Sacramento and up to Tahoe and it was actually more the urban areas that sucked more on Fi believe it or not. Despite the many choices it was always choosing Sprint 2g or similar poo poo whenever I needed to actually use it as a "cellular phone" and not an "internet device."
