Is it even worth trying for more runes with my gear? I want to try to see more of the game before I finish it, if I ascend I'll probably stop playing for a while. I have some sources of rF I can put on but I'd lose rCorr and some of the MR, I haven't found any rC or rElec at all. I have 6 potions of cure mutation so I can probably do Slime but are the other branches going to be a death wish for me? I don't have a clue what they have in store.

I suggest just taking the Orb and finish your first game. ![]() It's more for the satisfaction of accomplishment. Your second game (and there will be a second game! You've got the bug) you can experiment further.

Another post to ask for advice, I'm playing a MiBe and it's the farthest I've gotten so far, really want to get a 3 rune win. I've gotten two lair-branch runes, cleared all of depths as well as elf, crypt and vault:4. I need to get my third rune now, I'm guessing that's vaults:5, and I've heard it can be quite dangerous. How best should I approach it as a MiBe? Current game: http://crawl.berotato.org/crawl/morgue/Sent/Sent.txt I'm also wondering, how important is MR vs. Slay+6 for a ring? I'm currently at two pips of MR, and can switch out my slay+6 ring for another pip.

Vaults:5 is definitely rough, but a MiBe with an awesome executioners axe and good gear shouldn't have major problems. Be ready to stair dance, and teleport if a warden blocks them and you're in trouble (id your tele wand if possible). But for some reason permanent malmutate still exists as well. rF is extremely important in Zot:5 because orbs of fire can hit for about 120 damage unresisted. It's definitely more important than rCorr and MR, especially since orbs of fire don't care about either of those resists. Otherwise, buff up - I'd chug a might and maybe a resistance - and get stair dancing. Zerk as you need to (but probably not on V:5 if you can avoid it with the mess - don't want to be slowed/exhausted there) and don't be afraid to lean on BiA if it looks rough. Not having haste kinda sucks, but you seem beefy enough to deal. Just take it slow, stairdance as you can, kill wardens/sentinels ASAP. Read a magic map scroll when you're in there if you get a chance, to give you some idea where you are if you teleport. ID your tele wand, you have plenty of ?oID ![]()

Managed to clear the vaults! Thanks for the help. It was easier than expected, only actually scary part was when a flayed ghost flayed me to ~40%HP with a bunch of other monsters around. Now to go through Zot and win... I'm a bit nervous, but I found a "+0 pair of boots "Ruegosk" {rF++ MR+ rCorr}" on V:5 which brings me up to rF+++, so hopefully that means I can deal with orbs of fire and the like. Edit: I finally found a crystal plate armor, which I could theoretically enchant to +10 or so. I've been wearing the +6 scale mail "Awycyn" {-Cast +Blink Regen+ Str+8}. Strength is just a bonus, it's not exceptional particularly for a Minotaur which will have enough Strength naturally. Regen is always a nice thing (I tend to overvalue it so grain of salt) and Blink is only good IF you use it. Your current AC/EV situation is fine as is so it's down to if you want more AC (with a minor tradeoff in EV).

You look pretty good for Zot. I'd just be careful with rElec - it doesn't come up much, but Elec Golems can be painful if you don't kill them quick. More AC is nice, but expect to see your EV to take a hit especially with losing the str bonus - I'd take a look with both armors on and see what you feel most comfortable with. (Then see Grimm's comments about Regen/Blink.) Go get 'em!

How often are you casting blink? If it's not "all the time to get out of bad spots into better ones" go with crystal plate. Actually, go with crystal plate and see what happens. What's your armour skill?

![]() I used to play HO of Beogh a lot a while ago, and they are way easier to play now. Sadly it's too hard/not worth micromanaging your orcs, but they do serve as useful meat shields. Basically, I used up my stockpile of them to take down Mennas, and after the slaughter was never able to recover the hoard in any meaningful way. It is much, much easier to handle your orcs now though, compared to back when I last played the game, and you had to micromanage equipment of each individual orc, and deal with them picking up and dropping stuff that you didn't want them to. Also, smiting is insanely good now, I ended up with Invo as my highest skill but still did not nearly use smite enough. nogic fucked around with this message at 05:43 on May 31, 2016 |
