This thread has been worthy of its name and worth the admission price for the past two and a half pages or so. Especially considering Memorial Day. Well done.

In the military there are three people you never want to piss off: The guy that cooks your food, the guy that cuts your hair, and the guy that cuts your paycheck. Everyone else can gently caress off.

Except in today's military the first is a Nepalese TCN, the second is an elderly Asian-American woman, and the third is a faceless unaccountable bureaucracy with an Indianapolis zip code

There's some new guy here. He drove a chase vehicle for one of my friends the other day, and insisted on listening to some conspiracy theory podcast for the hour ride back. Today he got into a 10 minute long argument about whether a cable was purple or blue. On top of that he's about to head off to tech school and thinks he's going to have time to take 6 credits of college classes at the same time despite everyone telling him not to.

At Kadena, we used to drive to the Navy side to eat at their chow hall until we were told to stop going there. That place was nice. Good food and it was actually setup like a normal seafood restaurant. In tech school we all used to go to the chow hall for medics. We were also told to stop going there. Did anyone else in the AF see foreign military dudes working the chow hall in basic, over at Lackland? Once in a while I'd see them filling water glasses but never found out what they were doing there. Anyone know? Casimir Radon posted:On top of that he's about to head off to tech school and thinks he's going to have time to take 6 credits of college classes at the same time despite everyone telling him not to. Depends on the classes. If they're lower level, they usually aren't that bad. If it's a college that caters to military, then everything will come out of the book, including questions from the book being most of the ones on tests/quizzes. chemosh6969 fucked around with this message at 16:07 on Jun 1, 2016 |

Depends, I'm not really sure what prior service tech school looks like. I remember barely having any free time so taking on additional poo poo sounds like no fun.

I was in the AF and didn't have to study or do anything outside of class, other than run around a track 3 times a week. Probably different for others.

Casimir Radon posted:When I was in tech school in 2008 they were doing all kinds of poo poo to seemingly kill any free time you might have had. Like stand around on the pad for 2 hours waiting for the commander to show up to give his 5 minute safety briefing. I'm sure non-priors have it much nicer but I still wouldn't go piling other poo poo into the mix. I heard basic changed but didn't know they made tech school more military too. We had to rough it in tech school. Our dorm used to be the base hotel, so we had cable with premium channels. I was on swing shift, so we ran 3 days a week unless you hid out in your dorm room. Day shift never needed to run because of the heat index in the afternoon. If you wanted to go off base, you had to do a 1.5 mile run in under whatever time they made us do in basic. I think it was around 15 minutes, so it wasn't anything hard. Plus it was on a track.

that shits loving Shakespeare compared to some of the letters the kids used to write us from basic training. I should go in and see if I can grab the book we had of them and scan some. Past basic training time, I've seen Specialists and Sergeants both misspell their own rank
