Good job. And good luck with the postgame, you're gonna need it!

And for this celebration:

Junpoll(s) of the day

Which character do you think Ragnar wrote the best?

As for me, I liked the way you write Collete. When this gets archived, I'm going to compile a list of how many games and anime you referenced.

And...

Which game would you like to LP after this, Ragnar?

I am nothing if not persistent--or stubborn. Take your pick.

In all seriousness, though, I was never really in danger of burning out, honestly. The only part of the LP that I consider tedious is typing up enemy introductions--everything else, from organizing the layout of a given update to writing narrative dialogue, I find pretty fun! It probably helps that EO2U is my favorite game in the series, as well.

Narrative stuff, no question. It took me a while to get comfortable with it at the start, but after that, coming up with dialogue was by far the easiest and most fun part of writing any given update. Even outside of the updates themselves, Heavy, Efe and I still spent quite a lot of time brainstorming extra stuff about the narrative for fun. Pretty much none of that actually showed up in any actual update, though (with the exception of some slight hints at Jackie and her plan regarding Realga and Stardust).

Might as well reveal some mysterious behind-the-scenes intrigue about the narrative while I'm at it:

  • Ranger was originally gonna have a "tragic backstory" where he was part the doofus we all know now, part ghost of a Fafnir that died fighting something we'll see shortly and spent effectively several centuries manipulating time until he stumbled upon Lumen's Ranger. This is also why Ranger has time powers--it was originally part of that stupid backstory. Around the start of the 3rd Stratum, after the narrative settled into a consistent tone, Heavy and I both realized that this "plot point" was both incredibly dumb and tonally discordant from the rest of the LP.
  • Back in February, due to me not being able to work on an actual update for a solid week, I was originally gonna do a "Valentines Day" joke update where Ranger tumbled into a timeline in the "future" where everything was completely wrong--the Labyrinth had thirty strata, with the 30th being the center of the universe, and everyone in Lumen was romantically involved with someone else (excluding Ranger, Phoebe, Ursa, and Asriel--the latter 3 would just hang out in the bar as something of a "don't care" group). It took me about half of a partial draft and running it by Dr. Fetus to realize that, while the premise was absurd, what I had written wasn't actually funny. It was just weirdness for weirdness's sake--which led to it being scrapped. Everyone I've talked to about it agrees that scrapping it was an incredibly good idea.
  • I was originally gonna do an April Fools update before I ended up getting swamped by schoolwork when I intended to write it. It was supposed to involve Ranger's time powers going haywire and sending everyone into other random games. The only ones I had concretely decided on was that Ranger would get thrown into Doom, where he would get a Berserk Pack and punch a Cyberdemon to death (do you know how loving long that takes), Realga, Stardust, and Sophie would get thrown into Steins;Gate and just watch certain events from the middle of it with no context, and Rheine would end up in Cities Skylines, because a Sovereign building a city just felt right.
  • Heavy and I planned a series of "narrative interludes" called The Ranger Files, which would've alternated focus between Ranger getting roped into Jackie's plans, and seeing what he does on a daily basis. We had quite a few ideas plotted out, but none of them actually were written.

Aside from the individual reasons listed above, the reason pretty much all of those never ended up materializing was because none of them had anything to do with the game at all, which is a pretty big issue.

That behind the scenes stuff seems interesting, too. I feel that EO lends itself to a more humorous tone, but someone doing a more dramatic narative would seem interesting.

Update 51: Cooldown

Well, back to it, then.

I'm assuming we're all in favor of giving the Grail to Dubois and taking a break?
I could go for, I dunno, a week or three of time off...
A break would be nice after taking on a g-god.
Dunno how much more I can take after that, yeah.
Mmmrrr... Nrrr. Rrrr!
You have far greater stamina than any of us, Ursa.

Oh! Guild Lumen! I have just heard the news! It's true, then, that you have penetrated to the heart of the floating castle... And retrieved the holy Grail of Kings!
Yep. It's right he-- Okay, who has the Grail?
...Okay, fine, I tried seeing if the thing could duplicate money somehow. Here it is.
The Duke's life is saved! I will inform Lady Gradriel immediately!

The Grail of Kings... I hardly dared to dream that you would find it. You traveled so long, and fought so hard. I have heard rumors of your battle with the Overlord. Only Guild Lumen could have accomplished so much!
Well, uh, thank you.
Was there ever any doubt?
And my father...the Duke will be saved. My heart has not felt such joy in a very long time. I shall spare no expense in granting whatever reward you desire! Please, take this!

Hm. Looks like your hairpin. Thanks.
I must go now and see to my father! A thousand thanks would not be enough, Guild Lumen, so I shall thank you only once more!

If you recall the first time we met, I made you an offer. Retrieve the Grail of Kings, and we would be prepared to make you a titled noble.
Pass. Never was one for nobility.
Nrrr.
I-I wouldn't be able to deal with the pressure...
My job means that I can't be tied down to one specific place.
Same for me. I'm traveling with Stardust after we're done with everything here.
But even then...I knew you would turn down such a reward. An explorer desires freedom above all things. Even this old man understands that. Rather than nobility, then, let me give you this as a token of all you've done for High Lagaard. Now, don't be modest! Accept your due reward!

Only a little longer till I can finally get my dues.

None of these levels matter, honestly.

Everyone in town has special dialogue now that we've finished the main story. Let's start with Dubois.

WE LITERALLY JUST GAVE YOU THE GRAIL!
...Oh, I am merely joking. Welcome, Guild Lumen. I have already heard what happened... Splendid work. I must apologize that outsiders like you were forced to resolve the mess that our ancestors left behind... I bow my head to you as a representative of Lagaard... I am its Minister, after all. But I would like to ask that you keep this a secret from the public. I do not wish to cause any more commotion among the citizens. When the castle fell from the sky, there was a mighty din, and rubble rained down on us. The people were overcome with panic... In the end, we administrators could not settle on a course of action. In the end, all we could do was try to protect ourselves. But when we looked to the people...we saw them helping one another, working together. I was...ashamed of myself. ...It seems we were quite wrong. We do not shape the country... This country is shaped by its people. It seems so simple, now. It is not merely our work that keeps the nation going. It is only when all its people cooperate that a country truly thrives.
Could say the same of our guild, to be truthful.
Thanks to you, a new age is dawning on High Lagaard. Explorers... Lagaardians... Words cannot express my gratitude. I hope you can forgive a foolish old man's request to remain in your company, and continue learning from you.
W-well, I don't know how long we'll be here...
...Ah, yes. It isn't much, but please take this book as a token of my esteem. It is titled "Stratified Planar Cognition Sortilege..."
Luca.
I agree. Just slowly go to the door...
Hm? Why are you slowly backing away? You see, these theories form groundwork for a greater...
We have things we need to do gotta go bye!
Sorry!
I-I say! Where are you going!? ...*sigh* I suppose explorers will be explorers. What am I to do with you all?

Before we continue with dialogue, this is the Ducal Mark. It's a fantastic bit of equipment for Beasts, and kind of meh on everyone else.

We killed the Overlord and got the Grail, so yes, I'd say we are "all right."
I don't know much about it. All that matters to me is that you're safe! It's such a relief... If you're tired, the beds upstairs are made and ready. What a relief... I'm sure my daughter can rest easy now too. You're in her prayers every night, you know. She always wishes that you'll come back safe. Isn't she just the sweetest? I tell you, she's the spitting image of me when I was a little girl!

Do you see a scratch on any of us? Or on Ursa, who was keeping us from getting any scratches?
That's a relief... U-Um, someone from the Grand Duchy came here earlier... They asked if this was the inn that Lumen stays at... My mom talked with him about a lot of stuff that I...didn't really understand. Everyone else was really impressed that someone from the Grand Duchy visited... But I always knew that you're the most amazing guild there is.
Aww. Thank you, Quona.

I was... so worried something might have happened to you... I didn't know where you were... *sniff*...
If we came this far, dying now would be a terrible disgrace. We were never in any danger.
But I-I'm glad to see you all safe and sound! I'm so relieved! Huh? There's...still another forest above the floating castle? But that's... Wow! That's wonderful news! Imagine...a forest even higher than anything we've seen! I mean, if there's even more forest to explore...that means you'll all stay here, right? Yay! We'll always be open with a smile at Sitoth Trading! Please, take your time and look around!
...Abigail, I think you're mixing up information here. I mean, I didn't see any stairs in the Overlord's throne room.
I mean, we didn't investigate it that thoroughly...

Now I can finally rest easy and focus on cooking...
D-did we make you worry too much?
*sigh* I don't think I've broken a plate since I was five. The customers were laughing, saying I was completely out of it. Whenever you people are involved, I always get thrown off... Listen, be sure to stop by here to eat whenever you're in this city, okay?
Can't think of anywhere else I'd go.
...It's a promise.

Cass started talking as soon as we entered.

I've got a request, and they wanted yeh specifically for the job. If yeh're interested, try taking a look.

...Well, both of those certainly look important. Let's focus on Calamity of Ginnungagap, though.

Aw, that quest was meant for yeh! Glad yeh're takin' it. It's that whole...yeh know, ruins exploration thing. The Ginnungagap stuff.
I'd say "gods, not again," but we're not gonna be the ones doing it, so go on.
They were ravin' about how well yeh did on yer previous work, so they want yeh to handle this one as well. Anyhow, head to the palace. G'luck!

In a bit. For now, we continue with dialogue.

I heard that huge noise, and I thought yeh were goners for sure...
What kind of idiots do you take us for? Hat guy's guild?
Uh, probably shouldn't have said that. No offense, anyhow! Dunno what yeh lot were up to, but...am I right in assumin' that yeh lot won?
But of course.
Well then, time to celebrate! It's on me! Let's get hammered till we can't remember our names!
Stardust and I don't drink, and we've got stuff we need to do. Just let us know when new jobs come in.
...Wh--Jobs? Yeh wanna hear about jobs...even now!? *sigh*... How can yeh be so exciting and so boring at the same time!?

You discovered the floating castle, and recovered the grail the Duke had sought... You are true heroes of High Lagaard. But you don't appear satisfied... Surely, you too must be thinking...there is still unexplored land beyond the floating castle...
I'm not entirely convinced that Abigail was making stuff up, yeah.
Ha... Don't worry, I won't waste my breath. Continue your journey as you see fit... After all, what is an explorer to do with their lives, but explore? Well, that's all I have to say for now. I hope you find fortune on your travels.

Now that we've taken care of town dialogue, let's start Calamity of Ginnungagap.

You have cleared the forest...and even obtained for us the mythic Grail of Kings. Truly, your deeds are without compare! However...there is one final impossible task I would ask of High Lagaard's heroes. ...Ginnungagap Ruins. Do you remember?
I wish I couldn't.
In times past, we asked you to investigate these ruins just outside the city... Since then, I have studied all our records and everything I could find within the Grand Duchy regarding ancient legends. However...my search proved, for the most part, fruitless. We have learned that the land was once a temple, and that a princess from the Duchy of Caledonia performed a ritual there... I am afraid we could not find any details on the ritual...save the involvement of a mysterious figure: the Fafnir Knight. That is, unfortunately, all that we have learned.
Colette's books talked about this Fafnir stuff. All I remember is that Ranger's powers seemed eerily similar to the Fafnir Knight's.
However... It was shortly after you had obtained the Grail of Kings. I had the first restful sleep I had experienced in some time. I had...a curious dream. I was standing in unfamiliar ruins, and I heard a mysterious voice, with no speaker present... The voice told me this: “The day of the Calamity's awakening is near. But there yet exists potential within humans. Send the conquerors of Yggdrasil back into Ginnungagap. That is...the last hope." It was then that I awoke. I...do not fully understand what her words meant...
Oh great, the stuff that voice was talking about is starting.
But I believe I must ask you again to enter Ginnungagap, or something terrible may befall us. The voice told me to open the door that has been. I feel terrible to ask such a thing of you, after you worked so hard to return with the Grail... But please, if you can, I ask that you investigate the final floor of Ginnungagap...and find the truth of this "Calamity."
We'll make sure the next party takes care of it.
H-how are we going to organize the party? Volunteering?
Given the stakes, and what Ursa said earlier, I think we'll have enough.

Before we switch parties, this is what the Overlord's drop unlocks.

Czar Cloth (+50 DEF, +20 HP, +5% Fire/Ice/Volt resistance) is unlocked by selling 1 Imperial Wrath.

Rrr...
The Calamity, hm? I cannot sit idly by while the land, perhaps the world, is threatened!
If that voice in Ginnungagap was talking about it, it's gotta be serious. ...Plus, Realga and Stardust both needed a break.
I get to probably save the world AND taste new monsters! How can I pass something like this up?
Maybe I can find new types of monster steak down at the bottom of Ginnungagap.
Rrrerrr rrrer rrr oor.
Ursa has a point, however. Maybe we should take the time to train and collect strange materials?
If I get to taste what I was missing up in the floating castle, then it sounds like a good plan to me!

This party was decided completely by me--there was no post-Overlord vote. Everyone is pretty badly underleveled for Ginnungagap B5F, so let's take this time to gather a bunch of conditionals and level up.

Firstly, the Bound Root. This one can be a pretty big pain in the rear end, since the condition is to kill a Mandrake while it's fully bound. Mandrakes have 50% resistance to all types of binds, so doing them individually is annoying--especially with a Dark Hunter, since you risk killing the thing early.

I have no qualms using Stigmata to get it.

Blech. It just tastes like a dirty plant.

Easy enough.

Next up, the Blue Head Gem. Just kill a Gem Lizard while its head is bound.

Again, no trouble.

For the Sleeping Hoof, we need to kill the Nightmare while it's asleep. That's slightly annoying, and you only really get one shot at it, but not that bad.

The King Gel, however, is another story. The Cursed Core requires that the King Gel kill itself with curse damage. FOEbucks was out of ingredients to make the Curse Damage 3x food, so I have to do this the hard way! HOORAY.

Rrgh.

Eeeew. Why do Gels never taste like gelatin?

And now we wait.

This is gonna take a while, huh?

A little salty for my tastes.

Okay, one more action should cause the King Gel to kill itself.

Moron!

Yes!

A little annoying, but nothing TOO bad. Like I said before, "kill with curse" conditionals were much worse in EO3 and EO4, where there were bosses with conditionals that required that.

And last on the list of Heavenly Keep conditionals I can easily get, Cowering Silver: kill an Undead Soldier whlie it's afraid.

That'll wrap that up for now.

The spoils of war.

Queen's Whip (+213 ATK, +10 Force gain) is made from 1 Bound Root. I've already stated my opinion on Force Up a while back. There's one whip that's ever-so-slightly better than the Queen's Whip, but we won't be seeing it for a while.

Forest Runners (Survivalist ultimate non-body armor; +37 DEF, +20 HP, +3 AGI) are made from 1 Sleeping Hoof.

Cursed Amulet (Hexer ultimate non-body armor; +75 HP, +75 TP, +7 LUC) is unlocked by selling 1 Cursed Core. It gaves the same amount of LUC as a Fortune Necklace, but provides a nice HP and TP bonus. I buy one for Sophie, since we have quite a lot of money.

Medium Ring (War Magus ultimate non-body armor; +6 STR, +6 TEC, +6 VIT) is unlocked by selling 1 Cowering Silver. I kind of wish it had an HP or TP bonus on it, but +6 to the three most important stats for a War Magus is good, too.

I hope you didn't forget about Scylla. Her conditional is to kill her while she's asleep, which is easier said than done given her 25% resistance to sleep and the fact that, even ~20 levels after we fought her, her HP is still pretty high.

You'll forgive me for skipping over the uninteresting fight, I assume.

Bindings (Dark Hunter ultimate armor; +93 DEF, +3 STR, +3 LUC) are made from 1 Lavish Bone.

And lastly, this jerk.

Cursed Knight
HP: 15669, STR: 62, TEC: 44, VIT: 46, AGI: 35, LUC: 45
Skills:
  • Dark Blade: Cannot be disabled. Deals 150% melee STR-based Cut damage to the party. Attempts to inflict blind on hit targets, with a 200% base chance. Has no speed modifier and 110 base accuracy.
  • Death's Edge: Cannot be disabled. Deals 120% melee STR-based Cut damage to one row. Attempts to instantly kill hit targets, with a 200% base chance. Has a 300% speed modifier and 1 base accuracy.
Drops:
  • Normal: Jet Black Iron. 100% chance. Sells for 3000 en. 1 needed to make Arbalest (+131 ATK, +20 HP, +3 VIT). 3 needed to make Darkness Spear (+153 ATK, +25 TP).
"Broken-off piece of a helm's steel horn. Good for weapons, due to its hardness."
  • Conditional: Bound Shard (Kill while head is bound). 100% chance. Sells for 5500 en. 1 needed to make Shadow Glove (Dark Hunter ultimate non-body armor; +45 DEF, +3 STR, +5 LUC).
"Pitch-black shard, now darker from binding. It's almost impossible to see at night."
Damage resistances:
75% 75% 100% 100% 100% 125%
Disable resistances:
50% 75% 75% 75% 50% 50% 50%
10% 10% 10%
25% 0% 0%

A jet black suit of armor that wanders this world and the next, bringing death to all.

I hate Cursed Knights with a passion. Note how, not only does it have more STR than both Juggernaut and the Overlord, but both of its skills are real fuckers. Dark Blade is almost guaranteed to hit you innately, and is literally guaranteed in almost every situation to blind whoever it hits, if it doesn't just kill them outright. Death's Edge is designed around that--it has lovely base accuracy, but that doesn't matter when blind disables your evasion.

If that wasn't bad enough, the Cursed Knight also nullifies arm binds, so gently caress you if you rely on binds! Mercifully, it's at least weak to two debilitating ailments, and neutral to the rest.

I have Ranger use Transform immediately, since I need this thing dead very quickly.

My plan is to have Sophie inflict panic on the thing, bind its head, and then use Black Mist.

Phew.

Oh gods, blech! Blech blech blech! It just tastes of metal and ghost!
Gh-ghost?

So much for the Black Mist plan.

I have no idea if this is really the right action, but whatever.

Alright, looking good!

...Never mind.

Worth a shot--I need to keep a debilitating ailment on the Cursed Knight, or else things will get really ugly, really fast.

Bah!

I find it kind of neat that Rheine is nearly matching Ranger in damage.

poo poo poo poo poo poo, the Cursed Knight's free to do whatever now.

I am NOT eating another bite!

Oh thank god.

Not pictured: Ranger has Accelerate active. I think the conditional's in the bag.

Phew.

Jackie's still working towards Double Action, after spending hew new skill points from earlier on getting all the Charged elementals maxed.

Shadow Glove (Dark Hunter ultimate non-body armor; +45 DEF, +3 STR, +5 LUC) is made from 1 Bound Shard.

Arbalest (+131 ATK, +20 HP, +3 VIT) is unlocked by selling 1 Jet Black Iron.

Next time: Ginnungagap B5F.

I make alive things dead and sometimes the other way around.
There are quite a few conditionals that I just straight up could not be bothered to get on my first run of this game, but seeing what they unlock, I sorta wish I did.

Then again, fully binding a Mandrake with the story party might as well have been a physical impossibility without the right grimoires or reclassing, the first of which I didn't have and the second of which I didn't feel like doing.

Update 52: The Yggdrasil Project's Legacy

We are moving out at once. The Calamity will not wait for us.
I can't say I thought we'd ever end up saving the world when I signed up.

Let's finish off Ginnungagap. The Calamity is the only thing lying between us and the postgame.

I cooked some stuff first, though.

Tortoise Takikomi Gohan gives an 80% chance to add on 7 levels to newly-generated Grimoires. Do I really have to say anything about Grimoire-manipulating foods by this point?

Triple Salisbury restores 3% of the party's maximum HP and 1% of their maximum TP at the end of every turn. It's a trash effect, but I went with it anyway just to show how trash it is.

Here's everyone's builds. I rested Ranger to reallocate the 10 points he had in Elem ATK Up. Most notably, he has Force Reset maxed out, which immediately cancels the user's Force Boost, in exchange for refunding Force to the user. This is kind of meh on most classes, but on Ranger... Well, I'll leave that for the Calamity.

At level 10, Force Reset costs 12 TP and refunds 35 Force. At level 20, it costs 18 TP and refunds 50 Force.

This door, which was locked when we beat Demi-Fafnir, is open now.

How long do you think it's been since a person was last here?
At least a couple of centuries. Maybe even a thousand years?

Ooh, that scorpion's made out of metal.
Yet it bears no resemblance to an automaton...

Metal Needle
HP: 1210, STR: 51, TEC: 37, VIT: 40, AGI: 32, LUC: 34
Skills:
  • Steel Stinger: Uses the legs. Deals 180% melee STR-based Stab damage to one target, with line-piercing effect. Has an 80% speed modifier and 99 base accuracy.
Drops:
  • Normal: Fearful Stinger. 65% chance. Sells for 887 en. 1 needed to make Kogarasumaru (+171 ATK).
"Thornlike point on a Metal Needle's tail. Casting it converts it into a hard metal."
Damage resistances:
50% 50% 100% 50% 50% 125%
Disable resistances:
100% 150% 50% 100% 50% 100% 100%
50% 100% 50%
100% 100% 50%

A fearful scorpion with a body of solid steel and a needle well-worth steering clear of...

Metal Needles got a pretty serious downgrade from their appearance in EOU's postgame. I mean, yeah, Steel Stinger still hurts like hell, but at least it doesn't inflict fear anymore.

Hell Papillon
HP: 985, STR: 48, TEC: 39, VIT: 34, AGI: 43, LUC: 38
Skills:
  • Freeze: Uses the head. Deals 80% ranged TEC-based Ice damage to the party. Attempts to stun hit targets, with a 20% base chance. Has a 120% speed modifier and 120 base accuracy.
Drops:
  • Normal: Frosted Wing. 45% chance. Sells for 742 en. 1 needed to make Niflheim Bow (+127 ATK, normal attacks become Stab+Ice). 4 needed to make Papillon Buckler (+48 DEF).

A butterfly from the underworld and the deadliest-known of its species.

Hell Papillons are annoying, but not deathly so. Freeze's damage is fairly negligible (especially to Ursa), and the stun chance is low enough that it shouldn't be TOO troublesome. The only fully-annoying thing about it is that it's very, very fast.

Brrrr...

Look how absurdly little damage Ursa took from that.

It doesn't have the same..."kick," I guess, that Venomflies did.

Too easy!

Oh... Oh god. Hat guy's guild wasn't just drunkenly babbling.
These giant flying dinner plates could be useful...

Leukocyte
HP: 439, STR: 44, TEC: 36, VIT: 33, AGI: 34, LUC: 35
Skills:
  • White Plasma: Uses the arms. Deals 150% melee STR-based Stab damage to one party member. Attempts to petrify the target, with a 200% base chance. Has a 10% speed modifier.
Drops:
  • Normal: White Crystal. 50% chance. Sells for 714 en. 1 needed to make White Helm (+35 DEF, +10 HP). 7 needed to make Crystal Armor (+75 DEF).

A micro-assassin of Ginnungagap, whose sensors register every organism as a threat.

Leukocytes have the potential to be serious threats in groups, what with White Plasma being a basically-guaranteed petrify. Thankfully, 439 HP and a 10% speed modifier means you can probably kill all the Leukocytes before they can start ruining you.

See: Jackie killing two of them in one Charged Fire.

Whoops.

Also, yeah, that's how terrible the Triple Salisbury's heal is.

On second thought, I dunno if I'd want something that soft holding my food.

W-what is that th-thing?
SYSTEM: It seems like the distended, grotesque eye of some enormous creature. The strange eye casts around, sticking out of a gap in the rubble, and its gaze suddenly fixes upon you... You decide to proceed onward...despite the unsettling stare of the bizarre eye.

Irae are not FOEs, despite what the map icon might indicate. Notice how they have a range indicator for something. If we take a step backwards right now...

UM.

Get it off me get it off me get it off me!

Rrrrrrrrr!

Ooogh...

One turn after you trigger an Irae, it will send its tentacle down the range indicator, and grab the first thing in its path. If it grabs you, your party will take 100 damage, and be unable to move for 3 turns.

This floor's just a neverending stream of weird stuff, huh?
The Labyrinth seems sane compared to this floor.

That thing is a Blue Glaucus, and aggros once you get within 2 spaces or so of it. It has the standard "chases you, taking one step for every step you take" movement pattern.

I fight one to show off something in a bit.

Blue Glaucus
HP: 9294, STR: 59, TEC: 46, VIT: 43, AGI: 48, LUC: 48
Skills:
  • Healing Dance: Used at the end of every two turns. Uses the legs. Fully restores the Blue Glaucus's HP.
  • Crazed Dance: Uses the legs. Deals 90% melee STR-based Cut damage to 3-5 random targets. Reduces hit targets' non-base accuracy by 500 for 4 turns. Has no speed modifier and 99 base accuracy.
Drops:
  • Normal: Spongy Skin. 100% chance. Sells for 3200 en. 1 needed to make Ocean Armor (+67 DEF, +10% Ice resistance).
"Thin and durable cloth-like skin. Armor made with this has the sea's beauty."
Damage resistances:
100% 150% 100% 100% 100% 100%
Disable resistances:
25% 25% 25% 25% 25% 25% 25%
10% 10% 10%
50% 50% 25%

A creature from deep within Ginnungagap that fights using wild, erratic movements.

Blue Glauci necessitate a Hexer, basically. A Dark Hunter is not going to have an easy time trying to bind the thing's legs, and your genuine best option is to just throw Madness Curse on the thing while you try to bind its legs--and with 25% resistance to pretty much all disables, Creeping Curse comes in very handy here.

Oof. I got lucky that Crazed Dance only dealt 3 hits. Any more and Ursa could've died.

I...don't even know where to begin with this taste...
Is it...bad? Good? No taste?
It's indescribable... I can't tell if it's good or bad.

Jackie is really good at killing Blue Glauci, thanks to their 150% Stab resistance.

I'LL SEND YOU TO THAT RED OCEAN DEEP BELOW!

Binding the Blue Glaucus's legs is basically insurance in case the panic wears off quickly.

Bleh.

One of the rare times where Ranger's damage is "meh."

Pow!

Not that bad of a fight, I think you'll agree.

That fight took a lot out of my Force. Let's just go back to town and sell some stuff.

Niflheim Bow (+127 ATK, normal attacks become Stab+Ice) is unlocked by selling 1 Frosted Wing.

Ocean Armor (+67 DEF, +10% Ice resistance) is unlocked by selling 1 Spongy Skin.

White Helm (+35 DEF, +10 HP) is unlocked by selling 1 White Crystal.

I also bought Ranger a Sky Metal Blade, since it's basically designed for him.

...Oh.

Blue Glauci respawn every time you leave the room they're in, since they're required for exactly one puzzle on this floor.

Hm... Aha! Everyone, step back!
Rrrer?!
Okay.

Ohhhh, I see now!
At least Ginnungagap isn't exclusively out to get us.

Blue Glauci can be gripped by Irae, which removes about 33% of their HP, and stuns them for 3 turns, during which time you can walk in on it and get a preemptive.

There's a helpful shortcut to just bypass this.

Same thing here, except you just have to wait for the Blue Glaucus to walk over here from the other part of the room.

There's multiple Blue Glauci in this room. Just bait this one into the upper Irae...

And kill the other one, because why not.

Dauntless Order heals 100 upon activating now.

Killing the other Blue Glaucus gave me easy access to this.

Before I go back to town for now, there's a one-way shortcut over here.

Which leads to here.

Getting this by walking up from below is impossible, since you can't avoid the Irae without the shortcut.

This next puzzle is an absolute bastard. I start off by killing this Blue Glaucus in the middle.

After some fancy footwork, I get both of the remaining Glauci gripped by Irae.

How can micro-components of humans become this enlarged?

Oh boy, my "favorite" encounter.

Red Corpuscle
HP: 877, STR: 49, TEC: 38, VIT: 35, AGI: 36, LUC: 37
Skills:
  • Red Plasma: Uses the arms. Deals 150% melee STR-based Cut damage to one party member. Attempts to instantly kill the target, with a 200% base chance. Has a 10% speed modifier.
Drops:
  • Normal: Red Crystal. 50% chance. Sells for 721 en. 1 needed to make Red Staff (+110 ATK, +5 TEC, +5 AGI).
"Red object formed in a Red Corpuscle's body. Has no impurities, and looks like a gem."
Damage resistances:
100% 100% 100% 50% 50% 50%
Disable resistances:
100% 100% 100% 100% 0% 50% 100%
0% 50% 0%
100% 100% 100%

A micro-sentinel who seeks to rid Ginnungagap of all foreign intruders.

Red Corupscles are basically Leukocytes except a lot more annoying. Instant death is harder to deal with than petrification, and not only that, they have double the HP of Leukocytes, and resist elemental damage.

Ooooh... I feel sick...

They're just as susceptible to being disabled, though.

MotherFUCKER.

That encounter can very easily become a fast-track to a game over if you don't have a Hexer.

A hallway this long has to have something at the end!

...Well, that was a waste of time.
I'm trying as hard as I can to think of why this exists... Nope, can't think of a thing.

Not to give away too much, but in Story mode, this is the hallway that Fafnir walks down just before you meet the Black Guardian for the first time.

I believe it is safe to assume that the Calamity lies just beyond that door...
Anyone wanna...go rest before we fight it?
I'm hungry.
Ranger's right! C'mon, I'm sure the ancient disaster-waiting-to-happen can wait 12 hours or so!
Sophie, I realize the gravity of the situation, but can you please not be sarcastic?
Who said I was being sarcastic?

Next time: the Calamity.

Update 53: The Calamity

The Calamity... The Calamity...
Ranger? Are you okay?
You look like you're trying to remember something...
Calamity... Ca-lamity... Oh, that's right.
Rr?
Clam City. It sounded like a book my parents read to me when I was a baby.
...Let's get going.

Time for the second final boss of the game.

Why yes, I did optimize Ranger and Rheine for maximum TEC (which involved buying Ranger his ultimate armor). You'll see the results very shortly.

You might also notice that Ranger's Grimoires have been heavily optimized, including two passives he didn't have last time. Force Energy passively restores a static amount of TP plus a percent of Ranger's max TP while he's in the Force Boost state (12 + 2% at level 10). He doesn't have it naturally yet, but frankly I kind of went crazy with the murder optimization after a bunch of failed test runs.

Limit Break... Let's just say it's better to show than tell here.

SYSTEM: You can feel the numbing pressure of an unimaginable power on the other side of this door...
Um... Are we really sure we can do this? I don't know if biting a world-ending monster will really do much...
SYSTEM: You hesitate, faltering at the growing sense of dread in your stomachs, and hear a familiar voice.
Child of man, you have done well to arrive here. Now, I would have you listen to me. I wish to tell you...the story of Ginnungagap.
That would be nice. We know vanishingly little of this place...
In the distant past, there existed a being known as the Calamity...a being possessed of earth-shatteringly destructive power. This primeval creature...this entity of pure annihilation...rests deep beneath the land known as High Lagaard. I and my colleagues knew of this, and rather than try to control or destroy it, we sought to seal it away in this land... We have renewed this seal time and time again, by way of...a certain tradition.
The ritual of the Fafnir Knight. It's mentioned in Colette's texts...
That time is now past, and it will no longer help us. Little by little, our sacrifices have affected the seal less... And thus, the seal keeping the Calamity in place has weakened with each new dawn. It is now little more than a glimmer... Ginnungagap is akin to a grand casket, within which the Calamity sleeps. If it were to fully awaken, it would be...unstoppable.
I feel like we maybe should've focused on this instead of the Overlord...
Which is where...we come to you, child of man. I would ask one final thing of you. Open this door...and witness with your own eyes the abomination that is the Calamity... And, if it is truly within your power, bring an end to it.
Do we really have another option?
If I just left an armageddon-causing monster down here without doing anything, I'd never be able to forgive myself!
In all likelihood... it is an impossible feat for humans. You may simply perish as yet another sacrifice to its bloodlust. Yet... Perhaps...humans truly do have the strength to overcome all things, no matter what may come. You have done the impossible already--entered the castle in the sky, and won against he who transcended humanity.
Well, some of our guildmates did, but...
Thus...though it be the faintest of hopes...you may yet defeat the Calamity. You are this land's...last chance...of survival.
Unknown adventurers... I leave the fate of this world...in your hands...
SYSTEM: The voice's final words...are a sorrowful, barely-heard apology.
I'm sorry.
SYSTEM: You know that the voice must have used all the power it yet retained, in order to give you these final words. You can open the door and confront the Calamity here and now, or you can head back to town and prepare as necessary.
...I wonder who that woman was.
She said that she had hope we'd be able to win, but she also sounded like she lost all hope a long time ago...
I doubt we will ever know who the voice belonged to, or their story... In any case, is everyone ready?
...Rrr.
If I back away now, I'd never be able to live with myself. I wouldn't be able to enjoy eating anymore...
Backing down now would doom the world... If Realga and Stardust could kill the Overlord, I'll do what I can against the Calamity!
I wonder if Regina will let me have all the steak I want if we kill the Calamity...
...At least Ranger is the same as ever. Very well, then!

ONWARD!

The music cuts out here.

Rrrrgh...

A-ah...

https://zippy.gfycat.com/ExcitableOrdinaryBoaconstrictor.webm

RRRRROOOOOOORRRRRRRR!
This thing was sleeping below Ginnungagap?!
It is...hideous... What foul process could've created such a creature?!
I think Colette's books... They talked about the bad effects of something called the "Yggdrasil Project..." Is this thing one of those? An Yggdrasil Core?
Speculation can wait! This abomination must vanish, so that the world may continue!
I'll stomach down all I can!
I thought it'd look more like a clam.
SYSTEM: Your knuckles whiten on your weapons. Noticing your presence, the Calamity whirls its tentacles towards you... And, with a shrill, keening shriek from the Calamity, your ultimate battle now begins!

FOR EVERYONE'S FUTURE!

:siren: :siren: :siren: VIDEO: Boss Battle: Yggdrasil Core :siren: :siren: :siren:

I highly recommend you watch this battle in motion.

:siren: :siren:

Yggdrasil Core
HP: 25000, STR: 55, TEC: 40, VIT: 40, AGI: 35, LUC: 55
Skills:
  • Cell Membrane: Cannot be disabled. Dispels all ailments, binds, and debuffs the Yggdrasil Core is afflicted with at cast time. Nullifies all damage and ailments/binds to the Yggdrasil Core until the Core Iraes and Core Odiums (as applicable) have been destroyed.
  • Isolate: Cannot be disabled. Deals 130% ranged TEC-based Almighty damage to one party member, with splash damage. Has a 70% speed modifier and 120 base accuracy.
  • Poison Dust: Cannot be disabled. Reduces the amount of HP each party member receives from restoration sources by 50% for 4 turns. Attempts to inflict poison on the entire party, with a 30% base chance and 40 base poison damage (around 63 adjusted for level). Has a 80% speed modifier.
  • Ruinous Curse: Cannot be disabled. Reduces each party member's maximum HP by 50% for 4 turns. Attempts to inflict curse on the entire party, with a 50% base chance. Has a 80% speed modifier.
  • Segment: Revives either the Core Irae or the Core Odia.
  • Calamity Eyes: Cannot be disabled. Purges all buffs from one party member. Reduces one party member's physical/elemental defense by 30% for 4 turns. Attempts to bind all of the target's body parts, with a 60% base chance. Has an 80% speed modifier.
  • Core Charge: Cannot be disabled. Raises one Core Irae or one Core Odia's damage by 50% for one turn.
  • Pandemic: Cannot be disabled. If any party members have debuffs, ailments, or binds, spreads them to the rest of the party. Has a 20% speed modifier.
  • Armageddon: Cannot be disabled. Deals ranged TEC-based Almighty damage to each party member. Damage scales based on the number of times the Yggdrasil Core has casted it: 100%, 150%, 200%, 260%, 320%, 380%, 450%, 550%. Has a 30% speed modifier and 200 base accuracy.
Drops:
  • Normal: Demon Essence. 100% chance. Sells for 12000 en. 1 needed to make Alondite (+156 ATK, +3 all stats).
"Core of the Calamity at Ginnungagap's heart. Its immense power is worthy of the title 'demonic.'"

The Calamity that was sealed for a thousand years. Its awakening is a destructive omen...

I omitted the Yggdrasil Core's AI pattern because the research I'd previously done didn't match up with what happened in my test runs.

The Yggdrasil Core is the second final boss of the game--in Story mode, the credits don't roll after Overlord, they roll after this thing. It's certainly a doozy of a fight. For one thing, notice how none of its skills use any body parts. That's a pretty big jerk move, huh? It wouldn't be too bad, though, except for...

Cell Membrane. This thing will completely make the Yggdrasil Core invulnerable to all damage and disables while it's active--which is to say, until we kill the Core Irae and Core Odia. It wouldn't be Atlus without some arbitrary "gently caress you," though, so even though the Yggdrasil Core is invulnerable while Cell Membrane is up, it is still targetable, meaning that random-target attacks or attacks that get redirected due to their original target dying will still try to hit the Yggdrasil Core.

What are the Core Irae and the Core Odia, you might ask?

Core Irae
HP: 2500, STR: 55, TEC: 36, VIT: 60, AGI: 40, LUC: 52
Skills:
  • Earth Slash: Uses the arms. Deals 80% melee STR-based Cut damage to one row. Has a 90% speed modifier and 95 base accuracy.
  • Demon's Lance: Uses the arms. Deals 100% melee STR-based Cut damage to one party member, with line-piercing effect. Has a 120% speed modifier and 95 base accuracy.
  • Root Cyclone: Requires another Core Irae be alive to use. Uses the arms. Deals 180% melee STR-based Bash damage to the party. Has no speed modifier and 120 base accuracy.
Damage resistances:
100% 100% 100% 125% 125% 125%
Disable resistances:
0% 50% 50% 50% 0% 50% 0%
10% 10% 0%
0% 50% 0%

One at a time.

The Core Irae are the physical damage dealers of the Yggdrasil Core. They're not terribly threatening on their own, but later in the fight, it's possible to have both them, the Core Odia, and the Yggdrasil Core active at once. That's not a situation you want to be in, I'm sure you can guess.

Oh, and don't leave both Core Irae alive for long later in the fight, or else you'll find yourself on the receiving end of Root Cyclone, which is only good if you want your party taking the Number Nine.

Ursa's primary job is to tank, same as always.

Ranger will do something unorthodox--feed himself an Axcela. You might think that my brain has leaked out of my ears, but pay attention to his Force gauge.

Ursa's not really in any serious danger of dying to the Core Irae, but I'd still rather make her tanking job as easy as possible.

Jackie has nothing to do other than deal damage to the Irae.

Lastly, Rheine will use Attack Order.

If we've come this far, nothing can defeat us!

It's not a big chunk of Ursa's HP, but that's still "ouch" territory for a normal attack.

Auto-Heal is, as always, Ursa's best friend.

I'll...eat as much as we need!

Ooh, that was pretty lucky.

I wonder why this was in a box labeled "USELESS."

Could be worse.

I trust that the Core Irae won't kill anyone, and Sophie has nothing else to do.

Poison Dust is coming out this turn, so I have Rheine put a stop to the poison part.

Pfft, the Irae tried to hit the Core, and got blocked by Cell Membrane.

What a foul expulsion!

Notice how Ranger has an extra part to his Force Gauge.

That is Limit Break at work--Limit Break lets Ranger's Force gauge go above 100 in battle. At level 11 (which it's at right now), it lets Ranger's Force gauge go to 155. You'll see why this is amazingly good later. For now...

THIS UGLY HORROR NEEDS TO DIE RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW!

In all likelihood, the Core will probably eat a lot of hits, but oh well.

Sophie has this thing on for Bind Up, but why not?

I have Rheine extend Attack Order's duration.

Oof.

Luca lent me some of her matches!

Just my loving luck, the Core ate half the hits. Oh, whatever, one of the Irae died.

This is how much Force Energy restores, by the way.

Ranger will focus down the last Irae...

While Sophie and Jackie heal Ursa as best they can through the Poison Dust debuff.

Rheine will keep Jackie's TP topped off.

...Yeah, uh, the Yggdrasil Core fight has more than its fair share of strange bugs. A Core Irae shrinking isn't even the weirdest thing I've ever seen--I've seen a Core Odia completely vanish while casting a skill. By far the weirdest, though, was Ursa trying to cast HP Up on herself, and then dodging some unknown attack.

Now that we've killed the Core Irae, the Core Odia can be targeted.

Core Odium
HP: 4000, STR: 50, TEC: 55, VIT: 42, AGI: 30, LUC: 52
Skills:
  • Giga Flame/Freezing Nova/Thunder Rain: Uses the head. Deals 100% ranged TEC-based Fire/Ice/Volt damage to 2-3 random targets. Can hit the same target once at most. Has no speed modifier and 99 base accuracy.
Damage resistances:
125% 125% 125% 100% 100% 100%
Disable resistances:
50% 50% 0% 0% 0% 0% 50%
10% 10% 10%
50% 0% 0%

The Core Odia are considerably more dangerous than the Core Irae, since 100% TEC damage with 55 TEC is around 150 damage to most of our party--we can't survive that for long.

I have Ursa turn on Desperation just so she's guaranteed to be safe for the next 3 turns.

I want Ranger to get as many turns of Transform as possible.

Sophie'll try to bind one of the Odia's head, since that'll amplify TEC damage and stop one of the elementals for a few turns.

Rheine finally has time to contribute some damage.

...Um, what part do I bite?
I never thought I'd see the day where Sophie doesn't know what to eat...

...Uh, okay.

Pitiful.

I AIN'T DONE YET!

I must do whatever I can!

Hot drat. The benefit of stacking as much TEC as possible.

Aaaagggh.

Mrrrrrrm!

Honestly, Jackie is the least-bad target for Calamity Eyes. I got lucky.

The Core keeps eating half the loving hits of Thunder Wave.

And it's affecting Link Order's damage!

...gently caress it. Sure.

Sophie'll fix Jackie right up (aside from the defense debuff)...

And Jackie will keep Rheine's TP at a comfortable level.

I'm expecting Ruinous Curse after the Odia die, so I have Rheine put Prevent Order back on everyone.

RRREEEEOOOORR!

Ow ow ow. I'm gonna be feeling that for a while...
How did that thing even summon thorny vines out of nowhere?

THE loving CORE KEEPS EATING HALF OF THE loving HITS EXACTLY I DON'T UNDERSTAND IT

RRRRR! RRRRRRROOOOORRRRRR!

I have absolutely no clue how True Endurance did that much, but whatever, I'll take it. Both of the Odia are dead now, which means...

It's open! NOW'S THE TIME!

Ranger has one turn of Transform left, so I have him use Force Reset. You'll see why this is incredibly important very soon.

Panic is the most reliable debilitating ailment, and it's not like the Yggdrasil Core's less resistant to other ailments.

I'm just unloading everything I have.

Oh, that thing's still here.

Bllllllleeeeeehhhhhhhhh.

Just in time, phew.

Oh, right, Jackie lost Attack Order to Calamity Eyes, huh.

Oh.

Would you look at that.

I'M BACK, BABY! TIME TO FINISH THIS!

BACK-TO-BACK TRANSFORMS.

Limit Break requires a significant amount of skill point investment for good loving reason--in combination with high-level Force Resets, you can immediately Transform after ending one with Force Reset, because if you have at least 150 Force when you Transform first, and use a level 20 Force Reset, you will end up with at least 100 Force after ending Transform. It can get even crazier, albeit impractical--a level 20 Limit Break, in combination with 200 Force, can let you Transform 3 times in a row.

No--urp--more...

...

Holy god. That's basically 7000 damage. The Yggdrasil Core has 25000 HP.

With at least one more turn of the panic sticking, the fight's as good as over.

All damage on deck, go go go!

Just for you!

Oooogh... I hope Realga has medicine for this...

It's, frankly, kind of insane how many effective turns of Transform you can get.

Might as well amplify TEC damage, even if it won't stop any skills.

Oops.

Why am I...still eating?

It's time to finish this.

With my divinely-given sovereignty...

I send you beyond!

At last... It is finished. The Calamity is a threat no more.
We...did it... WE DID IT! WE SAVED THE WORLD!
RRRR-HOOOO!
An upset--ooh--stomach is worth...saving everything...
I don't get how that weird pink blob with a mustache would've moved anywhere.
SYSTEM: With this beast dead, and the voice's last wish fulfilled, High Lagaard will at last know true peace, free from danger. You may never know who the mysterious voice was...or for what reason the Calamity existed... However...you, your allies, and the heavens above have borne witness to your final victory to save all living things. While it may not be recorded in the annals of history, it will survive forever as a tale of true heroes... When ready, you should return to town and report your success...or rather, your completion. Return proudly to those who wish your safety, and herald the arrival of a new age of peace in the world!

That's the last we'll ever have to see of Ginnungagap.

Ah, there yeh are! I've been countin' the hours till yeh lot got back! Haw haw! Anyhow, glad yeh're all safe and sound. Ain't that right, yer majesty?
I...suppose? ...Oh.

Truly, I knew that you would return to us unharmed. I do not fully understand what happened there, in the abyssal depths of the ruins... However, I understand at least that you have fought valiantly...on behalf of High Lagaard.
For me, more like "on behalf of my friends," but close enough!
Members of Lumen. I thank you very much!

You have no idea. I dunno if "dodged a bullet" is even close.
I dunno if it's gonna be enough for all yer work, but this is from the princess and me. I'll see yeh again soon!

Passives.

Dauntless Order now has a 70% chance to activate on mortal damage, and heals for 125.

Anyway. This quest is extremely important if you want to do postgame content.

Ahh, Lumen. That quest is specially for yeh. It's a secret quest from the Grand Duchy. I can't even talk about it in public.
A governmental secret... It must be on par with the Calamity.
Truth to tell, I don't like sendin' yeh on a quest I don't know the first thing about. But I s'pose if I can trust anyone, it's the folks at the Grand Duchy. Sorry I can't tell yeh more. Go ask about it at the Duke's Palace. G'luck!

We just got back from destroying the Calamity--no better time to start some other important thing, I guess.
Cass objected, but I could not publicly reveal the details of the quest. He became quite irate at the idea of sending you into the Labyrinth with no information... But enough formalities...on to the reason I brought you here. You are familiar enough, I'm sure, with the Grail of Kings--the cup that brings life.
It's the reason the Overlord's dead now.
But our universe is perfectly balanced, and there is equilibrium in all things. Day and night. Sun and moon. Light and dark.
I see where this is going.
The Grail of Kings...and the Foul Grail. If you'd read the ancient documents on the Grail of Kings, you'd understand better, but... Where the Holy Grail gives life, the Foul Grail has the power to take life away.
My gods...
Our stance on the Labyrinth says that whoever finds an item within may keep it. I cannot alter that... But if the Foul Grail falls into the wrong hands, the Duke or his daughter may be in danger! We know what Labyrinth artifacts are capable of. The Foul Grail's terrible power could be real. Please find this Foul Grail, and bring it to me. According to the documents, it is hidden somewhere in the Heavenly Keep. You should take this memo with you. The memo points to a location that the Foul Grail may rest at.

Let me read you the contents of the memo first. Those who seek the sky: through the cursed cup's shrine, the sacred cup returns. To gain the cursed cup, bring the key shard to the center of the temple. I believe those who seek the sky are adventurers. Cursed cup refers to the Foul Grail, and sacred cup is the Grail of Kings. Also, the temple likely refers to a single room. In other words, the temple of the cursed cup refers to the Foul Grail's room. I have here the Strange Shard mentioned in the document you will take with you.

If you bring that to the Foul Grail's room, the Grail should reveal itself to you. Does it make sense? I know it's a lot to take in all at once, but do you have an idea of where the Foul Grail may be?
A crystal clear idea, yep.
Ah, splendid! May luck be with you on your quest for the Foul Grail!

We'll take care of this next time.

Jesus, you go through these updates quick. Don't want Fetus to catch up any time soon, huh?

Honestly, I love the track that plays here, especially the beginning. IIRC they used it for the Fafnir Knight's character trailer, and it's stuck to me ever since. Too bad Betting It All overrides it :shobon:

My disdain for you all knows no bounds.
Hmm. For reference, this was the attack pattern I found out.

Dr. Fetus posted:

Okay, so the Yggdrasil Core has a couple of phases, and it won't move onto the next phase if you don't kill off the limbs. At the same time, mind you. Because the main body will revive the dead limb 1 turn after you kill one.

Here's the Yggdrasil Core's pattern.

Phase 1:
Turn 0: Cell Membrane (that's what the barrier move is called in the code)
Turn 1: Nothing
Turn 2: Poison Dust
Turn 3: Nothing
Turn 4: Nothing

And it starts back from turn 1. Yggdrasil Core moves onto the next phase once the Cell Liras are dead.

Phase 2:
Turn 0: Cell Odiums are summoned
Turn 1: Nothing
Turn 2: Poison Dust
Turn 3: Nothing
Turn 4: Nothing

And it starts back from turn 1. Yggdrasil Core moves onto the next phase once the Cell Odiums are dead.

Phase 3:
Turn 0: Cell Membrane is cancelled
Turn 1: Ancient Curse
Turn 2: Isolate
Turn 3: Isolate
Turn 4: Isolate
Turn 5: Isolate
Turn 6: Isolate
Turn 7: Isolate
Turn 8: Isolate

This phase doesn't loop. Once Yggdrasil Core reaches turn 8 or gets lower than 75%, it moves onto phase 4.

Phase 4:
Turn 0: Segment (Cell Liras and Cell Odiums are revived)
Turn 1: Cell Charge
Turn 2: Calamity Eye
Turn 3: Pandemic (Only if your party members have ailments or binds. If your party had no ailments or binds, the Yggdrasil Core does nothing instead.)
Turn 4: Nothing

Yggdrasil Core goes to phase 5 after turn 4.

Phase 5:
Turn 0: One of the limbs will attack, and then Yggdrasil Core puts up another Cell Membrane (Cancelled once all the limbs are dead)
Turn 1: Cell Charge
Turn 2: Calamity Eye
Turn 3: Pandemic (Only if your party members have ailments or binds. If your party had no ailments or binds, the Yggdrasil Core does nothing instead.) Begins charging up for Armageddon
Turn 4: Armageddon (Deals double damage if 1 Cell Odium is alive, and triple the damage if both are still alive)

And it starts back from turn 1. If you knock Yggdrasil Core below 40% HP, it moves onto the final phase.

Phase 6:
Turn 1: Ancient Curse
Turn 2 and beyond: Armageddon

You're on a time limit here, because Armageddon gets stronger each time the Yggdrasil Core uses it. (Binding its head will buy you more time) If you manage to skip phase 5 and go to phase 6, the moves it didn't get to use will be cast after Ancient Curse, before moving onto the Armageddon spam.

The Cell Liras don't have patterns. They attack randomly.

The Cell Odiums on the other hand, do. And the pattern differs depending on when they get summoned. The left and right heads have different patterns.

Turn 1: Giga Flame / Thunder Rain
Turn 2: Freeze Nova / Giga Flame
Turn 3: Thunder Rain / Freeze Nova

And then it loops.

And their pattern is different when they get revived:

Turn 1: Thunder Rain / Freeze Nova
Turn 2: Giga Flame / Thunder Rain
Turn 3: Freeze Nova / Giga Flame

And then it loops.

You can try head binding the Cell Odiums to stop them in their tracks.

If it's wrong, I'll do a bit more research and look into things. But during my fight, I did 't notice anything off with the attack pattern.

At the End of the Labyrinth's actually a remix (rearrange?) of Bloody Fight! I can't really articulate it, but it's most noticeable with the part about 1/3 into AtEotL--right after it swells, goes down, and picks up again.

It's a slower arrange of the Fafnir battle theme, yeah. It's probably the best battle theme in the game.

I make alive things dead and sometimes the other way around.
That encounter with the three Leycolytes and three Corpsucles is a very, very bad encounter.

Especially if you get blindsided by it.

Like I did.

I nearly quit the game forever after that happened on my first run. Anyway, good job on clowning another boss that gave me hell. With how quickly you tear through all these, it makes me wonder if just played terribly on my first run (probably yes).

Update 54: Quests. Yep.

Well, we've saved both the Duke and the world. Now what?
In addition to finding the Foul Grail, I've heard rumors of another stratum, above the castle.
Why not take care of both at the same time? The Foul Grail's gotta be close to the Overlord's room.

SYSTEM: There, a mysterious voice rings in your ears, as if entering your mind directly... The voice acknowledges your presence in the room. You hear the sound of clanging metal... The Strange Shard received from the Minister has disappeared from your hand! At the same time, a silver object hangs in the air, defying the laws of gravity. It is a grail, crafted from black silver and emitting an ominous light...
Something tells me that's the Foul Grail.
SYSTEM: Carved into its surface are faces contorted in pain, their eyes laid with jewels.
Yep, definitely the Foul Grail.
SYSTEM: Captivated by its radiance, you quickly snatch the grail and stow it in your bag.

SYSTEM: This completes your quest. All that remains is to go back to the bar and report to Cass of what happened.
Now that that's taken care of, how about we go poke around the Overlord's room?

Fancy throne.

My word, the rumors were correct!
Where can we even go from a castle in the sky, though?

:siren: :siren:

Welcome to... Heaven? The Garden of Eden? I'm not really sure.

...I dunno what I was expecting, but I'm sure it wasn't this nice.
I feel like I could just lie down here and sleep forever!
I wonder where we are... Giant floating islands, perhaps?
I'm not moving from this spot.
Rrry?
If we walk too far, the islands will fall.
We have no time for this. Ursa, carry Ranger from here on out.
Rrkrr.

How about we get this weird murder cup out of our bag before we go further?

Hey there! Welcome back! Don't worry. I won't ask what yeh were up to out there. I was just afraid yeh might die in a quest they left yeh totally in the dark about. But here yeh lot are, back in one piece! Haw! Hm...? Is that a grail? Sorry, but I wouldn't even know where to start on somethin' like that. I don't want to get mixed up in confidential business without the Grand Duchy's permission. But I'll contact them for yeh. Until then, don't let that thing out of yer sight. Here's yer reward. Thanks!
Aw, come on, having this thing in our pack's making me nervous.

Oh, hey, new DLC quests.

Nope.

NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE

Okay, nope, sorry, we're taking this one first.
Oh, that quest. Well, uh, yeh see...
Pffft...
Ahahaha!
Hey, stop laughin'! This is serious! So it looks like...somewhere on the first stratum...there's a talkin' chicken on a rampage.
Hrhrhrhr!
Mmpf...pfheh...haw haw haw haw haw! Gah! A talkin' bird? That's the silliest drat thing that's come through here so far! Uh... Ahem. Guess I couldn't keep a straight face. But it's ridiculous! A talkin' chicken, I swear... Haw! Well, whatever it is, it's on a rampage, is the thing. Lots of folks have already gotten hurt from it. Sounds like it's around the center room in the 3rd floor. Seems to be fond of one-on-one combat, askin' folks to come alone. I dunno how true all of it is... but I'll leave it to yeh to investigate it. Personally? It sounds like a dumb joke to me.
It sounds like a dumb joke to all of us!
Still, g'luck, and be careful! Haw haw haw!

This is too weird to not investigate immediately.

Right after some bar patrons.

Marmott:

Hi again, Marmott.
Oh, welcome, Lumen. How've you been? ...Well, I guess you're always in top form. You're pretty famous. We're just the same as always, here. Tramonte's still hunting monsters for Lilly's sake every day... I was gonna stop her, but that Lilly fanatic gets so determined about this stuff. It's actually kinda...weirdly inspiring.
I'd call it "cute," but that works too.
Check it out. This is what she got today. A Petrified Scale. She had to find a Mokele-mbembe, petrify it, then defeat it...rinse and repeat. She's trying so hard for Lilly... I mean, she's supposed to be a gourmet, but what kind of friggin' gourmet eats scales?
Ooooooohkay, what?
I just don't get it...
I do! ...The eating, that is.
I mean, adorable or not... Why's she trying so hard to please a drat bear...?
...A bear.
All this time, I thought Tramonte was trying to make her girlfriend happy. Instead... She's just giving food to a voracious bear.
I wish a certain someone would give me rare materials for dinner...

Man with a smarmy smile:

There's even more...past the flying castle...? That's some exciting stuff! I mean, even though I'm not some big famous hero, it kinda makes me want to go in myself! ...I mean, I'm not actually going in. Can you imagine? They'd beat the crap out of me. But still!
Zachary, what are you doing? What is with that irritating smile?
Oh, hey, everyone. Just practicing laying low in case we end up getting creepy stalkers.
Uh, any particular reason you're doing that?
When you work as a princess's bodyguard, you end up meeting some weird, unhinged people.

Freckled boy:

Oh, Lumen... You guys are...really amazing. I thought finding the flying castle was the point of the Yggdrasil exploration, but I guess that wasn't all, huh! If I keep searching... I'll find amazing places that even you guys haven't found yet. Right!?
By virtue of how large the world is, surely.
Heh heh heh. I won't lose to you! Everyone's gonna know me as the adventurer as good as--no, better than Lumen!

The chicken is in the giant room where the dinosaurs were.

...Oh my gods, Cass wasn't joking.

SYSTEM: Do you remember the quest involving a talking bird rampaging in the Labyrinth? This must be the bird in question. However, it doesn't seem to be much of a rampage. The bird shows no signs of moving, nor does it seem hostile. Staying on guard, you decide to carefully approach the bird monster.
Cass said the chicken talks, right? He doesn't seem evil. Why don't we talk to him?
I can quite safely say that going from destroying the Calamity to talking to giant chickens is incredibly jarring.

SYSTEM: It then slowly opens its great beak...
Good morrow, ladies and gentlemen! It is a pleasure indeed to make your acquaintance.
Um, uh... H-hi?
SYSTEM: To your surprise, the crested bird speaks in human tongue!

Not only does the giant chicken talk, he has voice acting. I don't know who his English voice actor is, but I distinctly remember people talking about his Japanese VA being a really prolific anime and game VA, or something along those lines.

You'll see his voice when I get around to fighting him on video.

So... Who are you?
Who am I, hm...?
SYSTEM: At your question, the bird looks wistfully off into the distance.
That is truly a difficult question, for even I do not have the answer. This is because... I am a bird with no past. I know not from whence I came. I know that this is the Yggdrasil Labyrinth, yes, and that I can understand the language of you humans... Yet... since when have I lived in this forest? Was I a mere chick? Were my parents also chickens? How did I learn this tongue? ...I have no answers to these mysteries.
Honestly, those questions aren't even in the top 10 of weird things we've seen here.
However, there is one thing I do know. My heart's truest desire...is battle! The thought makes my blood boil, my body tense, and my feathers quiver! What I truly yearn for...is a clash of life and death! I've fought countless Labyrinth monsters to the death, but none of them were enough to satisfy my need for a true opponent! And then, as I despaired for lack of a true test of skill and power...you explorers appeared before me!
Rrr-orr.
Ah, explorers! Truly paragons of your kind! Some fight alone as individuals, and others fight as a horde to aid each other! Such tactical might, such spectacular skills, such raw power! Ah, it makes the flames in my heart blaze anew!
SYSTEM: The crested bird then turns its gaze to one of you as it opens its beak again.
Does the chicken want to make chicken out of me?
Now then, adventurers. If you have come to defeat me, then I bid you welcome! Allow me to speak plainly and honestly. My dearest wish is for a heated one-on-one battle--a true clash of soul against soul! However, if that is unreasonable, I would also accept a sufficiently determined duo! In other words, two-on-one would be fine. Then again, what are adventurers if not allies? If your entire party wishes to join against me in combat, I shall not object! Adventurers... if you are ready, then let us do battle at once!

This isn't just grandstanding, as the bolding may indicate. In addition to a standard item drop, Master Bird also gives us an accessory every time we defeat him, and the accessory gets better and better depending on how big your party is. You get the lowest level for a 3 to 5 man party, the middle for a 2 man party, and the best for a "1v1 me mid."

Fighting Master Bird one-on-one at this point is absolute suicide, barring maybe taking Nadia along and hoping she gets very lucky with a bunch of RNG. Two-on-one would possibly be doable with maybe Nadia and Colette. It's definitely possible with Freyja and Sophie plus Stigmata, but I'm not doing that again. A five-on-one is perfectly doable, but I didn't have my normal audio-recording setup during this, so I opted to back off for now.

Let's do some cursory examination of the 6th Stratum.

Can't say I've ever seen the ground shimmer before.
Approach it with caution.

SYSTEM: However, it does not seem to trigger any reaction. You walk away, feeling slightly disappointed.
Aww.

Fun fact: in the dun_26f text archive internally, this is the only entry.

A wide, empty corridor. I've got a bad feeling about this.

Eep.

Asterii have invisible spawn points, and will spawn when you walk on the same horizontal or vertical axis as the spawn. If there are multiple Asterios spawns in the same room, triggering one will trigger all of them.

I have the oddest feeling that we're not finished with the floor.

Walking on this spot triggers this event immediately.

SYSTEM: You feel as though you are being watched by someone... A sword is on the far side of the room. Its blade pierces the ground, and a strange magical circle has been formed around it... However, your fear of the unseen presence is so strong that you can't get near the sword. It seems as though there are steps you must take before claiming the sword. You decide to walk away for now and rethink your strategy.
Hrr... Hrr... Hrr...
Ursa looks like she's getting exhausted from carrying Ranger...
I'm not taking one step.
Perhaps it would be wise to just go back to town for now...

"Milady..." Hm, perhaps Wilhelm posted this?
What's this about an "ultimate gun?!"
Haw haw haw! Every explorer in High Lagaard comes runnin' at the phrase “ultimate"! Remember when yeh granted that old geezer his request to find the lady from his guild? He said he'd show yeh where to find the ultimate gun, as a way of showin' his thanks. The old man said that the gun lies behind the closed doors of the first stratum... He also said that Guild Esbat will be waitin' for Lumen there. He hasn't given me any more details, so good luck findin' it!

Imminent destruction is next. Like The other grail, if you want to go any further into the 6th Stratum than we did just now, this quest is very important.

Oh, taking that quest, are yeh? I've been havin' trouble tryin' to find the right person to take it. Found a letter when I came in one day. No idea who stuck it in here. It was just a little note, sayin' “I'll be waiting at the Sanctuary of Wings on the 20th floor."
The Winged Ones came down here to post a request? How odd.
It came with a set of directions, but the whole thing doesn't smell right. Nobody wants to take it. Here, this is the map with the destination marked on it. Go on, take it with yeh.

G'luck!

Lastly, Old scars, flaring anew:

Gonna take that quest? It's from the Grand Duchy's investigation branch... Could be some cash in it! There've been reports that the south part of the 9th floor was boilin' hot the other day. A scholar looked into it, and declared it...eh, what's the word? Risin'...geotherms...?
Rising underground temperatures? Also very odd.
Where there's an effect, there's gotta be a cause. So that's where this quest started. A few guilds already took it, but none of them have brought back any proof. Not one! Ah, but someone said the Guildmaster at the Explorers Guild might know somethin'... Well, she didn't say anything in the end though! She's such an old prune. So picky about who she shares her info with... Hmm? Don't yeh think she'll let yeh in on some secrets if yeh kids went to go ask her?
Maybe? She seems to trust us fine, I guess.
Awright! Yeh lot head on over there and get a lead on this! G'luck!

We heard something about the 2nd Stratum getting really hot.
Cass said some scholars said it's because of rising geotherms.
Geothermal activities on the south of the 9th floor? ...Who told you that?
A quest posted at the bar.
I see... Even you decided to accept that quest... Even if I keep silent, I expect you'll probably just go off on your own and find it...
Yup.
It's a long story, but I'll try to keep it short. It was years back. There was an instance when similar geothermal activity was found at the same place on the 9th floor. A few guilds back then also did some investigating, but none of them could arrive at the origin of the abnormality. In the end, one particular guild decided to investigate and resolve the issue. And the investigation team was...my allies and myself. At the time, we were known as the strongest guild in the Duchy.
Ooh, you used to be in a guild?!
What, you're surprised? Well, I guess I don't really work with other people, even inside town. If I do, it's usually with the guard corps to go rescue novices from the Forest. ...Tch. I went off track. We continued our investigation and came to a conclusion that the cause must lie in the hidden woods on the 9th floor. And when we reached the deepest chambers of the 9th floor... That was where the journey became a nightmare... In an instant, a sudden gulf of hot wind roared over us, and in an instant, one of our number was dead. The rest of us fought the demon, with its enormous red wings and sharp black spines... One after another, we fell. Its tail claimed one, its claws another, its breath most of all. Victory was impossible. Our weapons were useless, and it was impervious to our spells. I was the only survivor. I still bear the scars on half my body, and one on my face...

It's a monster in the truest sense. I don't think even you could hope to match it. Perhaps it would be foolish for any human to try to win against that thing.
I wouldn't be so sure of that!
We won't know unless we try. Five of us already killed the Overlord, and we just saved the world from the Calamity yesterday!
...Hand me your map. Go to the place I just marked. It's on the Second Stratum, 10th floor.

Go through the door, and go as deep into the forest as you can. That's your destination.
Our guild already did that quite some time ago.
One last thing. Running away is not shameful. Keep that in mind during your investigation. ...I have nothing more to say.

Our actual destination is the giant empty room at the end of the secret area.

Anyhow, let's take care of Imminent destruction.

But I'm afraid you have caught us at an inopportune time. We are..somewhat shaken at the moment, but pay it no mind. Klanvaline is running amok, and has damaged the vault holding our most sacred treasures. It is a grave matter... Over half the treasures cannot be recovered. But for what reason have you come? We are always willing to help those we consider family.
That treasure stuff sounds bad, but... What the heck is a Klanvaline?
A golden reptile that has lived here for aeons. It soars across the skies and wields lightning. It is sometimes known as the Dragon Who Walks With Thunder.
Oh, that thing I asked Jackie to make a plush toy of.
That's gonna take a while, by the way.
We have never beheld it with our own eyes before... We could not have guessed at its size.
It wasn't big enough. I still wanted to eat more of it before it flew away...
What? You have met Klanvaline? What a fate the Star is bestowing upon you... You meet often with our legendary ones.
In any case, we were given a quest pertaining to your problems.
A...“quest"? A word of the earthbound ones... If I recall correctly, that is when one asks another to work on their behalf. In which case, our request that you defeat the Queen of the Heavens must also be considered as a quest. Still... leaving our fate for another to resolve... But you said that one of us has asked you on this...“quest", did you not? In that case, I would see your proof. Are you certain that this quest has come from us?
One sec, the letter Cass gave us is in the pack somewhere... Here you go.
This penmanship... It was written by a child of the village. They must have sent it to you, worrying of our predicament... ...I understand now. Your visit during our time of distress must also be a part of fate. As I have mentioned earlier, due to Klanvaline's rampage, our vault is damaged and will soon fall. Before such a tragedy happens, we wish to rescue as much of our valuables as possible, but we lack the numbers. It is against our code to pass our valuables on to the earthbound ones...but please lend us your aid.
Your cooperation was instrumental in our quest for the Grail. Simply tell us where to go.
The vault is located to the west of the 23rd floor. Bring the treasure from the vault to this location. Time is limited, as the vault is nearly destroyed already. Please take appropriate caution, Lumen.

SYSTEM: You find a number of winged ones trying to move something. You remember being asked to help with the relocation of the treasure. You approach one of the winged ones...

Chief Canaan sent us to help with your treasures.
SYSTEM: You tell him that you have spoken with his leader, and that you are to assist in the evacuation. At your words, the winged one smiles.
Ah, that would be a great help. Please, come this way.
SYSTEM: He leads you to what appears to be a destroyed wall. Inside, you see all manner of shining objects and artifacts, old documents, and scrolls.
I am sorry to ask, but we must first move all this out of the wall into a safe area.
Rrrm.
SYSTEM: Following his direction, you hurry to move all the treasure to safety before the vault collapses.
Thank you, earthbound ones... Because of your efforts, we managed to recover everything before the vault crumbled. Now, we need only return these to the village. Can I ask you to--

SYSTEM: The winged one is interrupted by the roaring of monsters... From the sound, they may be just outside the room!
Oh crap, we put a bunch of stuff near the door!
SYSTEM: A great deal of treasure is resting just outside the room, where you had set it down during your work! With no time to think, you dash out of the room to confront the threat!

SYSTEM: The lizards are trying to eat the gems! At this rate, the winged ones' treasure will be seized by the monsters. You ready your weapons and charge at the lizards!

Yawn.

SYSTEM: The winged ones immediately hurry to assess the state of their treasures...but aside from some extra grime, all seems well.

This must be the will of the Star, for earthbound ones as strong as you to come to us now. I would ask one more favor... Could you bring these documents back to the village on your own? These documents are of great importance. We would entrust them to one of great strength, to see them safely home.
SYSTEM: To finish what you started, you take the documents and head back towards the leader of the winged ones.

Couple of sacred thingamajigs, right here!
SYSTEM: You tell him of your successful evacuation of the treasure, and of the documents you have brought back to him.
Oh, these are...some of our most important texts from the vault... Lumen, you've been of great help. I must thank the children who sent for you, as well as you yourselves. I have heard that successful quests are to be rewarded. I had the children sent something to the bar--please find it there.
SYSTEM: The leader expresses his thanks in his own peculiar way, and begins looking over the documents you have recovered. This completes your quest! All that remains is to go back to the bar to collect your reward.

...Hey, there's a letter addressed to yeh. It was at the bar before I knew it...and it's got yer reward inside. So, out with it...what kinda client has handwritin' this bad!? C'mon...yeh know I'm curious! Yeh did the job--yeh gotta know who it was!
We are not at liberty to say, unfortunately. Apologies, Cass.
Argh! Wipe that bloody grin off yer faces! Fine... forget it. But if yeh want to talk about it later, I won't be listenin'! Take yer reward and get out!

Finishing Imminent destruction opened this quest up. This is the last quest we need before we can go any further into the 6th Stratum!

This quest's addressed to yeh lot. The winged ones want to meet yeh. I'm sure yeh've heard from the fella at the Grand Duchy that it seems a mite suspicious... But they did pay me the broker's fee and left a reward, so it's more or less on the up-and-up. The requester said they'd be waiting at the entrance to the castle in the sky. Is it just me, or do yeh meet the strangest people in this line of work?
Can't deny that. I don't mind, though--these weird adventures lead to neat food!
...I guess that includes me, eh? Haw haw! G'luck!

I have called you here that I might ask you a question.
SYSTEM: Canaan gazes at the sky before he speaks again.
The Star, who heard the voices of my people, supposedly exists here... Even the stars in the sky may disappear. But our guiding Star is said to never disappear, transcending time and space. If we were to borrow the words of the earthbound ones...t is a being that you might call a god.
...The Overlord?
Lumen, I wish to ask you. Our Star... Did our god live here, in this castle? Did our god exist at all?
Do we tell them the truth? I know Canaan's a calm guy, but...
Let Rheine handle it. She's good at this stuff.
Assuming the Overlord was the Star... No. He was not a god. He was a man who was born a millennium ago, and transferred his mind into a machine body, in hopes of finding the secret to eternal life.
I suspected as much...
SYSTEM: Canaan looks sadly at the clouds as he continues to speak.
Are stars, then, fated to disappear? Or is that not so? How much of our lives was predestined? For what reason do we exist?
We're the wrong people to ask, honestly.
As the chief of my people... No, as an individual, I wish to know the answers. Would you grant me a favor, that I might satiate my curiosity? The answers I seek may lie in a place called the Forbidden Wood, above this castle.
SYSTEM: Canaan looks directly into your eyes... You may cooperate with him, or refuse to go.
I cannot deny that all of us--save Ranger--are curious about that 6th Stratum... Very well. What do you need from us?
SYSTEM: Canaan smiles joyously as you nod your assent.
I heard that you carry the artifact known as the Foul Grail with you.
SYSTEM: His words remind you of the other grail you obtained, which is still in your pack.
It is no ordinary cup. It is the key to open the Forbidden Door. However, it cannot be used at present. You must first awaken its power.
SYSTEM: Seeing that you don't understand, Canaan continues to explain.
It requires a blood sacrifice in order to awaken.
WHAT?!
It need not be your own. Slay the demon with blood fit to be offered to the Grail...that of the protector of this castle, the Juggernaut. If you offer its blood, the Grail's true power will manifest, and it shall become the key to the Forbidden Door. Thus, with the Grail in hand, you may reach the forest above. I shall entrust the Grail's awakening to you... Good luck.
SYSTEM: The chief of the winged ones spreads his wings and flies to the forest below. You may defeat the guardian now to begin the sacrifice, or return to Lagaard to prepare.

Can't be too bad.

Jesus.

Might as well get the conditional while I'm here.

Incidentally, Link Order has a special animation if it activates on Fire/Ice/Volt damage, like Burst Shot or Akashic Nova.

And that's all the strata boss conditionals taken care of.

SYSTEM: The liquid soaks into the cup as if the grail is drinking the blood! After the blood has fully soaked into the grail, it glows a faint, malevolent red...
Something about this feels very, very wrong.
SYSTEM: Is this what Canaan meant by the awakening of the grail? The chief's request has been fulfilled... Go to the 21st floor to deliver it to him.

SYSTEM: You give the grail to the chief. He gives it a look of approval before speaking again.
You may already know, but on the 27th floor, there is a seal created by the former Star. With this grail, that seal can be broken... Come. Let us meet there.
SYSTEM: Canaan spreads his wings, and goes aloft with the grail.
It will take time to remove the seal. Return to your town and rest before we proceed further.

SYSTEM: The quest is complete! Report your success to the bar when you return to Lagaard!

Oh, this request? Yeah, I was wonderin' what happened, since I didn't hear from the client. How'd it go?
It certainly went something, alright. That's all we can say, I think.
Yeh finished the job, right? As long as yeh lot vouch for the client, I'll trust him too. It's stressful being a manager, yeh know? Maybe yeh can give me a massage... Haw haw haw! Ahh, enough joking around... Here's yer reward! Well done, yeh lot!

Mmm, yes, pile on the Amrita IIs.

More passives, woo.

I can't think of anything else I'd really want on Rheine, so I just opt to level up Prevent Order so I can get its duration up eventually.

We'll close out on the thing made from Juggernaut's conditional.

Sky Metal Mail (Ronin ultimate armor; +92 DEF, +3 STR, +3 AGI) is made from 1 Sky Metal Tail.

Next time: ...I dunno. Depends on what happens with the vote.

It's vote time! Namely, what to do next? There's a couple things we can do right now:

  • Take on Master Bird. No conditional drop.
  • Take on Wyvern. Conditional requires being killed while paralyzed--will force Nadia. Conditional makes Kerykeion (+175 ATK, +200 TP, +7 TEC) and Wyvern Spear (+223 ATK, +40 HP, +40 TP). Quest gives Yggdrasil Staff (+207 ATK, +50 HP, +50 TP) and Agnea (+204 ATK).
  • Take on Salamander. Conditional requires being killed while panicked--will force Sophie. Conditional makes Agneyastra (+201 ATK, +10 Force gain, +25 TP).
  • Take on Golem. Conditional requires being killed while arms are bound--will force Sophie. Conditional makes Meteor Axe (+238 ATK, +50 HP, +5 VIT).

One vote per person for this. Once I finish whatever's voted, I'll hold another round of voting, until all four of these are done, at which point we will explore 26F.

My disdain for you all knows no bounds.
Salamander is by far the easiest boss to take on at this point. Any later, and it'll be taken down by a sheer level advantage.

Here's a couple typos because I'm slow and only just now getting to the Overlord update. And congrats on beating the game by the way!

To the first part: hat guy is very much intentional. It's Medic 3 and his drunken group of friends that comprise the Adventurers in matching gear.

Secondly, that's a WebM, not a gif.

Fighting Master Bird one-on-one at this point is absolute suicide, barring maybe taking Nadia along and hoping she gets very lucky with a bunch of RNG.

That's your only option in Story mode, bar reclassing. This boiled down to roughly 20 turns of being RNGesus. It's hell. If anyone else here is playing Story mode, do yourself a favor and don't do this, find another way.

My vote goes to Wyvern.

With the right setup, it's easy to solo Master Bird in Story. I'll demonstrate that when I get to it.

I just use them pretty interchangeably so I didn't think anyone would care to make the distinction.

Well then, I'll eagerly await that update because Ragnar can attest to the pain I went through to beat that drat bird with Flavio. My strategy involved maxing Blind Arrow, Hazy Arrow, Multi-Shot, Trick Step, and Chain Dance, getting a Pre-Initiative grimoire, and eating the Blind Effect Up food. I also learned very quickly that this strategy revolves around not binding Master Bird's legs, so Bow Mastery had to be at level 9. I think I also maxed Sleep Arrow, but I can't remember if I used it during the fight (I ended the fight with it, but that detail isn't as important as it sounds).

I am not kidding when I say, for a solid two weeks, I'd come home from class to see that I'd gotten new messages from Efe, relaying the pain and frustration of trying to solo Master Bird this early in Story.

He only won after Fetus learned what the Blind and Paralysis foods actually did. :v:
