I'm not exactly sitting pretty with this post considering some of Pearls Before Swine's go-to material, but goddrat do I hate it when the "joke" boils down to the inexorable march of time and technology. Yes, photography has degraded in value to the point of people taking photos of their food. In your time photography had degraded in value to the point of people taking photos of important moments rather than just one or two formal portraits. In those times photography itself was a degradation in value of the portrait process to the point that people who could never have afforded a painting began to have their portrait taken. And so on.
