Polynesia - the Crab People. That seems like an oversight on Moai proximity. Like. Maybe a city should be able to translate the chain or count as a Moai or something. Veloxyll fucked around with this message at 14:28 on Jun 23, 2016 |

Alright folks. I'm heading back off to No Internet Land again. According to my ISP we should be hooked up on the 28th which is also when the last of my recording buffer will go live so all being well you won't see any interruptions in the LP. Thanks so much for watching and I'll see you all next week!

I have to say, your starting continent seems like it's a good fit for the Polynesians since it's forcing you to go out and look for city spots on other continents. Except there doesn't seem to be many spots with good luxury resources and locations for moai... Also re:Cahokia and history lessons, I think most cultures in North America weren't nomadic before contact with Europeans (except maybe in the Great Plains? I have no idea.), it's just that North America was pretty sparsely populated compared to the Andes and especially to Mexico. There would have been a lot of small communities living off of farming and hunting (the latter especially in the present-day eastern USA), but there were fairly large cities all over the Mississippi and its tributaries that could have only been supported by large scale agriculture. Then the diseases introduced by the Europeans killed up to 90% of the population in a few decades. It was some real post-apocalyptic poo poo. See also: Squanto AKA "Divine Rage", of Thanksgiving fame. He was from the area near Plymouth before an epidemic killed almost everyone while he'd been captured and taken to England. Add some cars and you've got a Mad Max film (seriously, read his life story in this article, it's amazing and depressing as hell). That population crash also happened in South America, incidentally. There's theories that there used to be villages or even cities of all over the Amazon area, based on things like terra preta. The people there would have cultivated orchards in the jungle, as well as hunted. And the cities would have been built out of wood, so they vanished quickly (same as those in the Mississippi area). Europeans only reached the area long after the epidemics came and went, so there are no records. Veloxyll posted:Polynesia - the Crab People. There's a real-world precedent! This civilization seems to have risen on the back of fishing and cultivating cotton (for fishing nets), instead of farming like basically everyone else on the planet.

About resurrecting Maria Theresa in the France game: You can only do that from the last city a civ had before they went down, so the city in question would have been Vienna.

When you're on an island with one city-state like that, does it ever work to conquer them early (before anybody else finds out)? I'm kind of hoping some enemy will deposit a city on the island before you get all the land claimed. Can you use a promontory to form an unbroken chain of moai? code:

Did people notice that Captain didn't get the Porcelain Tower? It got sniped on the last turn. The message didn't come up for some reason, but there was no wonder video and gold went up by 100+. Also it was really frustrating waiting for Captain to switch back to working his academies after the Eiffel Tower finished. sincx fucked around with this message at 20:45 on Jun 29, 2016 |

Captain Fargle posted:I am indeed. And we're doing pretty well in comparison to everyone except Germany tbh. The reason I ask is because I kinda feel like you shouldn't be so hard on yourself if you lose these. You're not just playing to win, you're playing to showcase a particular interesting build. If you were just playing to win, you might not go for that build if it didn't seem promising or you'd abandon it if it wasn't working out. So there's just this extra level of challenge you would not otherwise face.

I wonder if it might be possible to win by taking a bunch of Germany's weaker cities and giving them all to Poland or something.

Great episode. The AI's inability to prosecute a naval war is working against you as well as for you, all those wet firecracker wars. Are the moai doing anything for you, or just looking pretty? It doesn't seem like you usually work the tiles and it's hard to imagine you ever getting the population for those + Great Improvements + specialists + necessities. I kind of expected you to take the tenet for less food used by specialists, to get more academy/moai tiles used over food. If you do have to roll back to smack Germany, how far do you think it would be? When you were talking about lack of iron to prepare a navy in advance of battleships, wouldn't trading or temporarily de-moaiing be an option? You wouldn't need the iron for all that long.

Captain Fargle posted:EDIT: Here it is! We lose a war today! I'm glad you decided to roll back, things were going quite nicely before Bismarck went runaway. I'm repeating my earlier sentiment as well: I won't mind if you go on a lower difficulty for the sake of showing off special features without getting thrown by the AI too much. Anoia posted:We can at least dream this is an option... unless Civ VI is really amazing. Yeah. The subtle rumble as a chain of moai turns into a rain of moai. I really hope VI will allow modding for something like that, just for shiggles.

It's weird how huge the difference is between emperor and immortal, it's like going from easy to very hard with nothing in between. Sometimes I create intermediate difficulties by setting the difficulty to immortal but cheating in a building or two at the start.
