If they stay put, then the option defers to the Raiders, so they might do that. But negotiations have started in Vegas with "provide more money than anyone ever" as a starting point, and the Raider/Casino mans delegation wasn't laughed out of the room, so I'm optimistic a deal can get done. If not, Mark probably needs to sell his majority share of the team to get a deal done in Oakland.

The Chargers should make a presentation to put a stadium at Seaport Village. Apart from the seawall, that place is a blight on the earth, and I think the contenders for redevelopment include a Ripley's Aquarium and a Fish Market, so it's not like they're playing against the big boys.

I envision a stadium with a slot machine and sports gambling screen at every seat. Tickets are free as a comp if you gamble enough each week. This could work if you make the goal post a stripper pole.

The news is that they went through and verified that the signatures were valid so it's on the ballot. The other TOT increase measure (Corey Briggs) hasn't yet been checked, I think. It doesn't matter, though. Unless the Chargers have a major winning season, there's no way the measure passes. The city attorney has asked the state supreme court to rule on the stadium initiatives with regards to the 50% or 2/3 thing that's been going on, but it remains to be seen if they will do so.

They have to qualify for the playoffs by the time voting happens for the team to create any traction on the issue to erase the memory of the poo poo 2015 season and before. Otherwise the active season won't do poo poo for the Chargers chances whatsoever.

Nevada, and Vegas especially, are polling in strong opposition against using public funds for a new stadium in Vegas. This might be because of the $500m minimum that Davis has requested, but it might also be that Adelson can use his own goddamn money to build the new stadium. Odds on Vegas voting to use public fubds without allowing the public to get involved à la Cobb county?

If the public funds come out of Vegas hotel room taxes going up, why would the residents of Vegas be upset about that? Do they think it'll negatively impact tourist dollars spent?

Because Adelson dropping half a billion on Trump would've been bad enough without him turning around and telling everyone that he can't afford to build an unecessary stadium without dipping into their tax money.

To paraphrase the deadspin response to this, those taxes aren't being raised for that purpose. They could be going to other stuff. It would be possible to raise hospitality taxes and improve schools or roads or housing for poor people
