That big dumb ship seems like a compelling enough reason to log back in and dump the 100$ or whatever has accumulated as zen in my year and a half away on keys to sell. And then get tired of again in 7-10 days and disappear for another 16 months.

Edit: Or not, I logged in to see what I was up to and just staring at the UI and my dumb ship floating in an empty void I became instantly depressed and turned it off.

Huh, which shield skin is that, the new rep one? Or is that just a hull option for it? Since yeah, the grimdarque black enterprise look doesn't really work all that well for it.

Apparently it's the Kelvin Constitution skin, I guess you'll be able to use the JJ-Connie and Vengeance skins on other ships?

Hrm. Are there any shield skins with a white/grey hull and red nacelle caps?

Copper deflector would be good too.

EDIT: drat, looks like the bussards on the Kelvin Connie don't change with the shield FX.. (dread)

Feels like everything new for the expansion is behind a lockbox, c-store package deal, or lobi store which, would make it just about the same as it has ever been.

Favorite part of this game is how its subreddit insists it has one of the best f2p models out there.

I mean, they've almost not technically wrong, a good player with a T5 ship back in the day bought cheap off the market with MK12 rep gear could probably still do better than most players in this game but it's like, those ships are now a lot more expensive due to admiralty and so many other things. Its almost less the cost and more just the huge info barrier getting in.

MAybe the game would still resemble something reasonable if they just sold ship skins instead of actual real stat-based ships but that has sailed long ago. Thing with T6 is there's basically always a new ship coming out every week.

It was also reasonable because for the stuff you did want to buy, the Dil to Zen rate was totally doable. Now it's five times what it was.

Yeah when I started playing dil to zen was like 130 or something. You didn't even need an elaborate contra alt chain, just maybe two or three alts running dyson every day over an hour and a half and you could get a new top of the line ship a month. Which, imo, is still kind of too much but it was doable for little effort. Now if d>z is close to 500 why bother.

Lobi ships were always absolutely ridiculous though.

And for lifetimers with a stipend you're talking a new ship every 6 months, not much of an exciting pace. And F2P aside if you're buying the big packs as an expansion you're paying about 4x the price of most other games' expansions and getting a pittance of content in return. Sweet, I got all these temporal starships, time to play through this new storyline in a week and then back to chasing that darned crystaline entity in 7 new ships. Gee Whiz!

Shooooot there was a time when it was like around 80-90 AND through busted rear end player created missions you could get 2000 per character a day in about 1 minute. (I could be running two different events together in my head, this game has been out a lot longer than I like to remember)

Edit: I was just looking over the wikipedia page, remember when Veteran rewards were a thing? 2344 days and counting for me. Where is my 2000 day veteran reward Craptic!?

I had enough Zen for 153 keys and keys are selling right now for almost 6mil.

How do the exchange prices for new lockbox ships normally go? I'm looking at getting a Kelvin ship, should I buy the ship I want early or wait it out? I'm probably going to start a TOS character so I wouldn't be able to use the ship right away so I'm in no rush to buy.

Don't buy one immediately, wait for the market to steady after a few days of people opening boxes. The first few that go up will usually be stupidly high and pubs will undercut each other by several million at a time.

Also don't sell your keys until the box comes out and everyone is going apeshit over it.

Yeah it normally takes 1-2 weeks for the New Hotness to stabilize in price and drop a bit once the super rich early adopters get theirs and stop pushing the prices up. Keys will remain high for quite a while but peak right after the new boxes go live - definitely the best time to sell if you want EC.

When the prizes are REALLY desirable (i.e. Annorax) the prices can actually rise after the first week so that's something to keep in mind too.

In this obviously lots of people are going to want JJprizes etc but the ship itself isn't anything spectacular compared to readily available Z-store ships so that'll stop it getting too mad. Maybe. Depends how popular JJ Trek really is - guess we'll see.

I bought the Romulan starter pack, ignored entirely the Delta pack and have gone all in this time on the Temporal Agent pack. I'm reasonably happy with the value for money involved, this time around. Obviously the expansion's not out yet but it's looking good, I really like the aesthetics of the ships, and I love the idea of cross faction endgame ships like the 31st century trio.

Plus, more ships for the Admiralty mill.

I think Fed has the MOST carriers since they have the Jupiter and the other factions don't have the equivalent. No idea about the best.

I love the concept of the Jupiter and I have one, but I've not had great luck with it. Is there a good way to get the hanger pets from engagement to engagement? If they're actually on scene they're quite potent and fun to watch, but if a map involves full impulsing from fight to fight (like most do) I end up sitting there acting like an oversized sci boat until the escorts meander over.

Any word on if having the existing temporal ships will let you select them as a skin for the new temporal ships, or having the Aeon shuttle gives you access to the black hull variant?

My old KDF main still few his kar'fi after leveling up to 50 the hard way before all the KDF revamps and bought the kar'fi with the level 50 free ship token. It was good enough to keep pace with pubbies and looked great with aegis shields, so that was all I wanted to fly.

Probably lovely now I'm guessing. Been looking at reinstalling this game and it sounds like only one of the three characters I played much with will be able to keep their ship through all the post-Romulus stuff. Had a Scimitar on my Romulan, Kar'Fi on my Klingon, and Orb Weaver on my Feddie.

Hit the button to recall the pets back into your ship before you go full impulse. Because yeah, otherwise they take ten minutes to bumble their way over to you. That isn't how hangar pets used to behave, either. Something relatively recent broke it.

The fleet Kar'fi isn't exactly high-end, but it's playable enough and has pretty great frigs. Slam a DBB build on it, give it grav well 3, and just surf up to poo poo, trap them in front of you, and pummel the poo poo out of them, it's still drat effective and nimble enough to be fun to whiz around.

When AP and Tet got secondary Omni arrays, so you can put two beam omnis and the Kinetic Cutting Beam in the rear of the ship. It only works for ships with three rear weapon slots but it lets you blast sci powers straight ahead and fire all beams at the same time. It's great for sciholes.

Ten's slightly better than AP for this build for set reasons right now, I think.
