So apparently the Bengal said that the Bengal will be done in, he estimates, three months. And according to him all of the "underlying tech" has to be finished for the Bengal to be done. I'm not really sure what underlying tech he's talking about (I know nothing about game development), but that sounds remarkably optimistic. I think what bugs me about this whole thing is how we see a ton of stuff on the aesthetics and nothing on the gameplay. Nobody has ever argued that Star Citizen isn't pretty. The problem is that a pretty game that sucks to play still sucks. Has CIG done anything to actually make sure things work inside that Bengal? What are the game mechanics associated with all of this? Do they even exist?

I'm still a fan of some of the ships. The Bengal, for example, looked pretty impressive. The levels were less interesting and I don't see how any of it really competes with CoD:IW in terms of graphics, but I still give the ship guys kudos. Then again maybe I'm just nostalgic for a game that isn't even out yet.

I like some of the materials surfaces like on the Freelancer, it looks really cool, but that's honestly about it for me - the rest is OK, but for what the game is supposed to be and supposed to represent it's poo poo. Just imo of course

It's like the inside of a new 1980's shopping centre, sure some posed shots in space look good, or in arc corp from certain angles when the LOD clips in right, assuming there's no horrible UI in the way, or a bulkhead, or an airlock, or a vending machine, part of your helmet, or your 1ft thumb etc. The luxury 10k nightclub looks ok and "ok" is generous, that should be the best place ever, the fish tanks look fine and I like the thing hanging from the ceiling, the seating isn't great considering you can't sit and you actually clip through the couch. Hangars are bland, though the asteroid one actually looks good for an industrial feel. All the space stations are really bad though for boring corridors. The gold horizon map looked better.

MoMA always does the majority of their posting when I'm not around. This makes me sad. They're actually starting to grow on me. Here are my points (if you ever read my posts at all): 1) My partner is vegetarian. I have no idea how to cook vegetarian food at all. Is there such a thing as a veggieburger that doesn't suck, and if so, how do I make one? 2) The Republic isn't a tragedy at all, and I'm not sure I understand you saying its your favorite. I suppose the greatest tragedy to come out of it is Plato's awful formalism being adopted by otherwise rational people. His theories on statecraft and the suppression of the arts are just awful to a modern thinker. 3) What are your opinions on Chris Roberts's hairpiece? I wear wigs myself, and could possibly loan him some. They would be much more feminine but would probably be the correct color for him. Would you ask him to PM me if he's interested? 4) Do you know why Peter Gabriel is so angry? I always thought he was such a nice person. 5) I grew up kinda poor, so I can't imagine what $4,000 of disposable income feels like. What's your standard of living like? Do you drive Porches and sell oil companies or something? TerraGoetia fucked around with this message at 01:25 on Jul 8, 2016 |

Daztek posted:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpalZlE4FC8 Looks like they just have a bunch of production staff and some line leads inefficiently spread around several studios. That's like having a manufacturing company that is literally just a factory with a few production lines. How could you expect that to produce a highly complex product whose production processes will need to be developed and refined during production? They are completely missing a whole bunch of specialised staff you need to do that. You can't just promote some of you production line staff to leads and expect that to work as an alternative to doing it properly.

Seriously though why isn't cargo in the game, make a volume that is "cargo" that can dynamically fill using small, medium, and large boxes depending on a widgets' size except the boxes aren't actual representative boxes (not fidelitious I know) and are just extrapolated from how much poo poo you have in your inventory. gently caress loading and unloading nonsense. Make 3 different models of generic crate and task a few guys to knock it out by the end of the month. Why isn't mining in the game, have a flag on certain materials' properties like mineable, ore types, etc so if a procedural asteroid has a certain material property you can mine it to produce ore widgets which are just numbers in a database etc etc like it's been four loving years and they don't have this stuff prototyped? Shoot a laser beam that returns a line trace and if the material is of a certain type it adds X widgets per second to your inventory. You could have a rough prototype done in an hour. AsteroidRockMaterial1 is flagged as mineable and PlatinumOre, my laser does a line trace by channel and the material returns mineable and PlatinumOre, 5 PlatinumOre is added to my ship's inventory per second which is a weapon attribute of the MiningLaser item. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. Maybe UE4 has spoiled me with how simple it is and Cryengine is just that bad but I seriously am at a loss. It boggles the mind, like, seriously, WHAT THE gently caress DO THEY EVEN DO THERE. They have 300 employees and they can't have a few dudes make what is essentially just a bunch of database entry types? Why do the people who unironically say "you don't understand game development" ask these questions? I understand game development just fine and what they are (not) doing is just mindblowing.
