Yeah SNES Aladdin is a far superior game. Genesis version is a technical marvel but plays meciocre-to-poor.

I'm pretty sure you can skip actually saving Deckard but he shows up later mad but won't identify anything for the lovely hero that didn't save him.

I grew up playing both aladdin games. Genesis aladdin was really pretty and I was maybe not even double digit age when it came out and I remember not being able to get far and got very frustrated with its confusing level design and crazy difficulty spikes. Then later that year we rented SNES aladdin and man. so many cool game mechanics, consistent enemy behavior/comprehensible level design and by the end it felt like an adventure!

I'm surprised this game is as good as it is, everything from animations to platforming to optimization seems smooth. Not what I was expecting from a game based on a movie at all.
