God, SMRPG just did so loving much right Even the dialogue (ESPECIALLY the localization!) is interesting enough, but it never runs overlong except intentionally as a joke. It's concise and communicates well. The whole game feels like a stage play / improv scene The minigames and the combat system make sure the player is still as involved as possible, even with the necessary evil of menu interaction. Everything is animated, and there's loads of body language and animation ggoing on even in dialogue scenes instead of people standing around staring at each other It's the best of 90s Squaresoft and 90s Nintendo combined

I don't know why, but this is so striking to me. The runner in intense concentration, the couch in various states of apprehension (also Pie bouncing his head to the jumps), and the crowd in the background just silently watching.

Ohhhh I get it Yaridovich is an anthropomorphized spear. YARI He looked so weird to me as a kid that it never really clicked to me that he was a spear, like the other Smithy weapon bosses
