foxxtrot posted:1) If you lose both halves of February, that will be 4 games. One month spans either 1 or 2 games, depending on your performance. The phenomenon of one person being the one to pull the most epidemics has to do with the way the cards are seeded. We had the same thing happen where my girlfriend was always getting blamed for epidemics and in true fashion for her she did a statistical analysis of pandemic and determined that one of the players (I believe the second in a four player game) is statistically far more likely to draw epidemics due to the way the deck is created. Of course she is also the only person I have ever seen draw back to back epidemics. And no I don't mean she drew one and drew another next turn. I mean she drew her two cards for the turn and both of them were epidemics.

FWIW this thread has seen some extremely well thought out and reasonable effortposts on why lopsided sexualized stuff in your card games and board games is a negative thing.

I have me a riotous little giggle every time Ruti goes on about us anti-cheesecake folks being "puritans" or "prudes." Cuz I'll be real with you, boardgoons: I'm a goddamned card-carrying pervo slut. I've been to more weird gently caress-parties than I've been to gaming conventions, and I worked in the industry for five years. (I have a funny story that involves both a tragic anonymous handjob and cheating at Warhammer. Ask me in PMs!) And god drat, I love titties as much as the next raging mostly-lesbian. But see, there's a time and a place for it, y'know? You go to a party, you strip down and shackle up for a couple hours, and then you get dressed and go back to being an adult with a career and a really boring blog, probably. Sex is a vital part of life, but it's a part of life. And the problem with obnoxious cheesecake is the goddamned pervasiveness of it, in places where it really doesn't need to be. And the message that pervasive, invasive sexualization sends to women is, We have no interest in you beyond the sexual. Regardless of situation, circumstance, all we are interested in is the parts of you we can stick a dick in. And the message it sends to the presumed straight male teenager target audience is This view of women-as-objects is justified. Women ARE just convenient boob-racks. Keep going, champ. We're with you. Y'know what it's like? So I was part of this fetish club in Tucson for a while, hence the parties. And there was this one older gal, mid 40s, who was kind of all over everyone always. And hey, at a party full of consensually naked people, rock on within bounds of asked-for permission, you crazy diamond. Anyway, one weekend I'm working a booth at Pride in the Desert with this drag-and-burlesque company I used to do sound and lighting for. And this gal sees me outside the booth and decides right then and there that grinding on my leg would be an appropriate greeting. And I'm like, what the actual gently caress? I'm at work. In public. In front of my boss, ffs. I was not consenting, yo. That's what obnoxious cheesecake in my game art feels like. It feels like someone trying to grind on me, when uh excuse me, I'm busy right now, and also you're embarrassing me?

StashAugustine posted:-I was interested in the art for the Polish edition, it should be possible to make that work with English speakers if you print out the rules, right? The Polish edition is actually mostly language-independent, since rules text has been replaced with icons AFAIR (pretty lovely ones, though, I had played Coup before and could not for the life of me deduce which PL card corresponded to which original card). The only instances of text on the cards are the card names. As long as you print out the rules and possibly cheat sheets with appropriate colour-coding (since I am fairly sure PL edition has different colours on specific roles), you should be good to go.

This discussion is a timely one for me, because the topic of erotic game art came up at a get together a few nights ago and my wife didn't understand why I wasn't as enthusiastic about the idea of a little cheesecake as she was. So I showed her the EXCEED art from the other page and her response was "Ew, not like that."

If you want to get real sad at the state of artwork in gaming, look into Jasco Games' UFS (the guys who made the EXCEED art) for what they do for their main game artwork.

It's not as if a nearly infinite amount of cheesecake, porn or whatever else they might need in whatever variety of themes and art style is available just by typing a vague description of it into Google.

To put it another way, selfishly, from a male nerd perspective: I want this hobby to be broadly accepted, so that I can play lots of games with lots of people. Jerkoff material as card art fuels an atmosphere that makes that more difficult. Though, as the reaction in this thread indicates, it's an attitude that seems to be shifting, meaning that I'll be finding a larger and larger group of people to play with who aren't typical, male nerds. That's good for me, and good for the hobby as a whole.

The art is basically exactly what I expected. It doesn't personally offend me that much, but at the same point, I would absolutely rather have a game where I didn't have to worry about the audience I bring it out for. I don't even generally play with kids or strangers, but I'd also like for my friends to not mistake me for some weirdo pervert. Frankly, it'd be nice if my board games were as sexless as possible so they aren't thinking about my potential perversion level. For me, given the choice between a game with cheesecake and a game without, I'll choose the one without. I mean, in a practical sense, it's not the days of woods porn and Sears catalogs anymore. The internet exists. Go enjoy yourself when it's not board game time. If you need or want a game that sexually stimulates you, then I'm not really interested in playing a game with you. Though I will be interested in some Purell after touching the doorknob on the way out.

I don't want cheesecake in my card games because one, it makes me depressed to think about both the kinds of people that made the product, and the kinds of people they're selling it to, and two, I can't even pull out a board game with a modestly dressed woman on the card art without this idiot misogynistic fucker friend of mine saying something really disappointing and then getting slapped across his greasy bald head by me. Art like that is just genuinely distasteful, it serves no good or useful purpose.

FYI, for the two epidemics in one turn thing, that's actually amazing, you do the first epidemic, then before you flip disease cards, you do the second one, so it's just two cities go to three tokens and then you do the flip cards. The second one is guaranteed to explode, though, I guess.
