Is there a big list of pop flash spots like the smoke grenade thing in the OP? Google is only turning up a few guides for specific maps and pimple popping advice.

Not really popflashes, and these don't have all of them by any means, but:

The only kind of pop flashing you would ever need to look up is non-bounce flashes for your teammates. Probably one of the most advanced things in CS, enough that the chances are you'll never ever need them. To learn how to pop flash yourself, just get used to how far your right click throws, jump right click throws and left + right click throws will go and just practice. There's no real need for a guide because you can do it literally anywhere on the map.

Good spots on the most common maps are the end of B apps and A ramp on mirage, A main and chequers on cache, over A long and into short on d2 (all as CT).

Hi,

I haven't done any desktop gaming for almost a decade. I recently got to play some GO and CS 1.6 at a friend's house and had a blast.

The last time I played CS at home I had a Half-Life CD and the CS mod installed (which I think was version 1.3 at the time). These days I'm on a Mac. Since the Mac gaming thread is archived I thought I'd ask here: will the CS games (1.6, Source, GO etc) that seem to be available for Mac on Steam will be compatible across platforms online, ie will I be able to play against other people who are on a PC platform?

E: seems that GO works as per Wikipedia

you can play against people on pcs on a mac, but you really cannot play cs on a mac. the client is dogshit on non-windows platforms (though linux might have gotten better since the last time i checked)

I suck as a T throwing a flash coming out of T Spawn into B main to flash the awper either under heaven or in cheackers.. I miss it all the time, but when I am CT the person hits it every time.

Incoming drama!

quote:

In 2011, we added a feature to Steam that enabled users to trade in-game items as a way to make it easier for people to get the items they wanted in games featuring in-game economies.

Since then a number of gambling sites started leveraging the Steam trading system, and there’s been some false assumptions about our involvement with these sites. We’d like to clarify that we have no business relationships with any of these sites. We have never received any revenue from them. And Steam does not have a system for turning in-game items into real world currency.

These sites have basically pieced together their operations in two-part fashion. First, they are using the OpenID API as a way for users to prove ownership of their Steam accounts and items. Any other information they obtain about a user's Steam account is either manually disclosed by the user or obtained from the user’s Steam Community profile (when the user has chosen to make their profile public). Second, they create automated Steam accounts that make the same web calls as individual Steam users.

Using the OpenID API and making the same web calls as Steam users to run a gambling business is not allowed by our API nor our user agreements. We are going to start sending notices to these sites requesting they cease operations through Steam, and further pursue the matter as necessary. Users should probably consider this information as they manage their in-game item inventory and trade activity.

Going to laugh in a few days when people try to withdraw their skins and the sites don't have anything left to give them, or just vanish into the night with whatever they have on their bots.

It sounds like the main issue is automation. I mean if they're going to say they didn't make money from it anyway. Just make the gamblers transfer their items manually and prevent them from playing again until they take care of pending transfers.

Yes, but the automation is what makes it possible on a large scale. There aren't enough bookies in the world to fulfill all the 4 cent skin bets, but bots are happy to take them.

That's the bottleneck, yeah, but with real money floating around there's still an incentive especially for the higher value stuff.

The immense pressure to regulate this or some third party must be forcing Valve to punch themselves in the balls here. As a business they wouldn't want to take down the gambling sites, because they still indirectly make money by them being around. I can't imagine they would be any stricter than they have to here and start taking out things like OPSkins.

It is probably be the most recent scandal getting press combined with the first few lawsuits against them. These lawsuits are pretty silly and won't go anywhere, but if allowed to continue unchecked it's only a matter of time before a government regulator or prosecutor decides it is worth their time to really pursue.

So are we all in general agreement that Valve should be aiming at RNG based gambling sites and leaving betting sites and skin sales sites alone? Betting hasn't really been too scandalous in the past year or so, there hasn't even been a really notable DDoS situation in a long time.

Eh, maybe tier 2-3 tournaments will see a drop in viewing due to betting, but I think the big name tournaments will stay pretty consistent.
