They're churning out monthly episodes with nothing for backup when it doesn't work. Oh for sure, i'm not complaining at all, they managed to turn what would have otherwise been a "well we came here but there's nothing that suits us" episode into something entertaining, and not every episode can be an instant hit. I have nothing but respect for the entire crew.

Is this guy a goon? His videos feel very prescient to this thread... https://youtu.be/hoxqtnI4I4c https://youtu.be/wxukemJYNpM Yes I know that it's the wrong thread for most of the stuff in these videos, but it's related to previous discussions. Plus, that Wagon and Hatch in the Mopar one are definitely in the right thread

Hi hello what I have been summoned. I sold the Celica a couple months ago and it broke my dumb heart, lot of sentimental value in that car after having it for 10 years. I have a Volvo C30 now but I still miss that stupid GTS.

RegularCars did a great review of the 99 Maxima that made me instantly miss my '95 that was almost identical to the one in the video. The same 189HP V6 motor, manual trans, everything. How can I feel so nostalgic for such an otherwise boring car?

Revisiting a video that I like to watch every now and then. It is by far my favorite "power is the solution" race car ever made. The Mannic Beattie powered by a 1.7L Cosworth tubrocharged with its own dedicated helicopter engine spooling the turbine making boost at 25psi. This produced around 400 horsepower at 7500rpm driving all four wheels. It has perfect weight distribution at an estimated curb weight of 650kg (1433lbs). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11687nVdzdk&t=38s It's rather fast. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFNnXOAAhWI I am convinced there is no better way to turbocharge any vehicle.

I still drive my 96 Maxima. 192,000km when I got it, just rolled over 310,000 today. I drive it like I stole it, barely maintain it (I'm running it into the ground at this point), alignment is shot so both front tyres are currently almost down to the belts on the inside shoulder, blower resistor and blower motor are dead, idle air valve and knock sensor are dead, and it's losing coolant from some metal pipe we tried to fix with Knead-It (JBWeld) but failed a few months later. Oh and it's probably 5000km overdue for an oil change and I recently dropped NZ$500 getting the notorious front radiator support rust cut out. Despite all that, she starts up every time, still spins smoothly to the redline quite happily, and even gets pretty good mileage considering how much I thrash it and how rich it's running with the dead knock sensor. I'm gunna miss it when it eventually dies sometime in the next year. Next time it start overheating because I forgot to top up the coolant I'm probably just going to ignore it and see how long it lasts. I only live 1km from work so who cares. I'd get another in a heartbeat, especially considering they are worthless and I can buy a whole new one for like $1500-2000 tops.

Tiny island at the bottom of the world means NZ$350+ for the IACV valve alone, gently caress if I'm spending that much just so I don't have to give the accelerator a prod as it turns over. Rather put that cash towards a replacement, I've got more than enough value out of it by now. Heater stuff is a pain in the arse too, mine was a NZ assembled CKD model, so for some reason the blower and resistor are different to those put in all other A32's which makes finding the right stuff in junk yards a nightmare - A32's here are either still on the road, or used Jap imports with the non-matching parts. There's method to my madness!

They increased the turbine size, as the original could *only* make 43psi of boost. The new enlargened turbine spins the turbo to produce a ridiculous 60psi of boostage. It also got an F1 style blown diffuser for the turbine exhaust to exit via. Have a super noisy jet-airplane sounding car in 2013. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WilPSO05MjI Info about it - http://speedhillclimb.com/return-of-a-legend/#more-4303

I believe it's a conventional turbo making the boost, they use the turbine engine as a gas generator to keep the turbo spooled all the time.

Enourmo posted:I believe it's a conventional turbo making the boost, they use the turbine engine as a gas generator to keep the turbo spooled all the time. Yep, the shaft of the turbine directly turns the turbo. It's like a turboprop, but instead of a geared down propeller, it turns a turbocharger without bothering with the gear box. The exhaust is then fed to an F1-style blown diffuser, which gives full down-force at all times since the turbine is running full speed for the entire run.

So basically it's just an external compressor that runs on the same fuel as the engine.

I think it's actually slightly cooler than the "helicopter engine spooling the turbine". From what I understand, air start APUs are basically jet engines that are designed with an excessive amount of air flow on the compressor side, and power output from them comes in the form of large volumes of compressed air. But then, I could be wrong.

I've seen several of those on track myself.. the yellow metro in particular has been a frequent appearance in the Chicago races and always does well because it's super reliable. I've seen the 666 trans sport too, but it's got some new paint: I also saw the MR2 with the radial engine swap.. for like two laps. It was 2-3 years ago and had some "reliability issues." I would love to see that spirit of lemons on track, that would be a fun picture to catch.

That's what I mean, I thought it was just used as an air supply to the engine itself. Hard to say without going over the car though.
