Captain Fargle, you need to get better at justifying the oddities thematically! Attacking city-states is like beating up small children, nobody approves of that. And as much as I'd love to play Canada, it seems rather shaky. Clearly they should just put our cities under England/France, nobody would be mad about that... Also, randomisation among city names would be good. No need for the cities to be the same names in the same order all the time. In my dream Civ wonders would just not be startable after you discover the foe who has one, but could still be finished. The instant worldwide communication with civilizations that have no other contact is very silly. You would have to tone down the power of some now that most players might get them rather than risking the gambles.

The problem with that is it kind of penalises exploring. "Oh, you found someone. Now you are competing for wonders". And no-one would bother exploring at all until they had the Great Library, for instance. Oh, as for post colonial nations in Civ - Indonesia is also in. And Indonesia as a unified(ish) entity is totally post colonial. Veloxyll fucked around with this message at 06:23 on Jul 18, 2016 |

Maybe it would be worth it to wait until you get sailing so you have one more trade route, then buy a caravan to send food to your second city so you have a better chance of getting petra. That would delay national college by a few more turns, but it you get petra it could turn the game around.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OF__E6WImE0 With regards to Saturday and the multiplayer game I'm going to say 8pm UK time is when I'd like to kick things off over at: https://www.twitch.tv/captainfargle If we can get enough folks together multiplayer will happen otherwise I'll probably play one of the scenarios or something in single player. Bear in mind if you want to play you'll have to be able to stick around for a few hours. Multiplayer Civ isn't quick. Captain Fargle fucked around with this message at 22:05 on Jul 19, 2016 |

I'm surprised you didn't try to swap open borders with England instead of selling yours for 1 gold per turn. Also, both of the new civilizations had cotton for trade, for Vancouver.

Yeah. it takes literally hours. Like. Think how long a Fargle playthrough takes. Then increase it by about half for other people having wars. (IIRC wars in multiplayer are done one player at a time) Veloxyll fucked around with this message at 07:38 on Jul 22, 2016 |

You can have everyone go together, you can have passing turns, or you can have a "hybrid" mode where everyone moves together unless two players are at war, at which point they take turns. That last mode keeps breaking for me, it killed a couple of my games where people just couldn't do anything and even rehosting the game didn't work. I'm not sure if it's just me or is it simply broken.

For those who missed the game: we played for roughly four hours and made it into the Renaissance, despite the netcode's best efforts. One of the weirder things, aside from the "normal" freezes ended up being the location of my third city, Dur-Kurigalzu. It started out being settled one tile to the SE of a mountain, for the observatory, however on fargle's PC it was displayed one tile SW to where I had actually placed it. After an automatic resync, things improved somewhat, at least fargle now had the city in the right tile. My end was a bit... screwier: A full rehost then improved things... marginally: Look specifically at the tile yields...

yeah, when I founded the city it should have cleared the swamp SE of the mountain, thanks to the netcode it didn't and somehow moved the tile yield to the tile where the city was initially located on fargle's end. I also can't improve that tile where that extra hammer is shown.

It's late now that the city's been burned to the ground, but the "cz" in Szczecin is pronounced rather like the one in "Czech". It's the city that used to be called Stettin when it was part of Germany.
