Weird how so much of Trump and the GOP's official policy has centered around strengthening the allies of Russia while weakening its enemies in the region - especially countries it would love to gobble up. Weird how this started as soon as Manafort came on board.

So the RNC has the pyramid scheme lady who gave a worse speech than the "such as and the Iraq" lady from 10 years ago whereas the DNC is going to roll out Obama, Biden, Bill Clinton, both Castros, Michelle, Jill, Bernie, John Lewis, Debbie Dingell, Elizabeth Warren and who knows probably a spoken word performance from Lin-Manuel Miranda.

E: possibly one or both of the Obama daughters speaking as well. We're going to have Joe giving a heartfelt emotional rallying cry for America to be the America Beau believed in, etc. Maybe Marc Cuban will drop some slam poetry on Trump, a half-dozen people of a rainbow of ethnicities and sexual/gender identities all dropping 2-minute pieces on how lovely the GOP is to people like them, basically four days of solid speakers and contrast to the hosed-up conniption week that just happened in Cleveland.

This. If it's a blow out loss for Trump then Cruz will brag about sticking to his principles when everyone else caved and look prescient. Meanwhile every single republican who supported Trump will start pretending they were against him all along and have nothing to attack Cruz with over the convention.

If it's close then he's fried via "stabbed in the back" narrative.

Meanwhile the narrative for tonight will all be about Cruz not bending the knee and the VP speach will be completely forgotten (also because it was bland as gently caress).

Best case scenario for Trump is that he shored up some of his republican support via gently caress TED while looking like an incompetent fool in front of the rest of the country.

GOP Conventions in the 1880s were fierce due to the Credit Mobilier scandal showing that 1880 nominee James Garfield and 1884 nominee James Blaine were openly taking bribes from the railroads. Both conventions had some very vocal people trying to derail those candidates.

1872 the Dems failed to nominate a candidate at all and ended up just endorsing Horace Greeley's run as a "Liberal Republican."
