So, uh, Max Landis is writing a Pepe Le Pew Movie for WB. Setting aside Max, it seems really weird for WB to try a movie of Pepe of all characters. I'm not sure how a sexual harasser will go down as a protagonist for a kid's cartoon movie in 2016.

Make it Austin Powers with a skunk: sexy international Sexymans loses his mojo/strong scent. He is sent on a personal journey that shows him the futility of NeggingKinos and how everyone is special. The refurb of Tower of Terror away from Twilight Zone into Guardians is a war crime. But it serves to show how Modern sci-fi is basically dominated by comics and Marvel in particular.

Also Pepe LePew is probably horribly offensive to the French, and they've had a pretty rough year so let's ease up.

A: An accident leaves Pepe LePeu, raconteur and gigolo, in the body of Joe (Jonah Hill). Without his trademark looks, he must find a new meaning in life. B: Pepe is the town's smallest runt. When he proclaims that Women Across the World will love him, he gets laughed at. But a chance encounter in Paris leads him on the adventure of a lifetime.

Isn't half the plot of those that a cat accidently gets a stripe painted on her back, yeah let's make a movie about a guy who tries to rape a woman for wearing too much makeup, that's a hilarious idea for a joke.

I'm actually re/watching all the Pepe Lew Pew shorts because there are relatively few. Even just between the first two, Odor-able Kitty and Scent-imental Over You, Pepe's rapist/creeper status just escalates so quickly. It's also really, really funny.

greatn posted:Yeah it really is undoubtedly funny. In For Scent-imental Reasons, Penelope is about to jump from a window because of him, and Pepe misconstrues this as an act of the devotion from which he must nonetheless save her. In doing so, he drops her out the window, and then joyfully commits to 'suicide' along with her. This is actually one of two suicide gags in the cartoon. In Scent-imental Over You, Pepe reveals that he's not just a skunk who's trying to have sex with a dog dressed as a skunk; but that he's a skunk, dressed as a dog, dressed as a skunk, trying to have sex with a dog. It's this sort of thing that pushes Pepe's rapscallionism over the edge and makes it enjoyable. He's downright diabolical, but he rules.

Old WB sure loved its suicide gags. My favorite is in "Ballot Box Bunny" where Bugs and Yosemite Sam are competing for mayor, only to be outdone by a literal dark horse candidate. For years I thought that was where the episode ended, because the repackagings they used to have on the local tv stations cut it off there. But then later on I saw the real ending, where Bugs and Sam proceed to try to shoot themselves in the head, but Bugs aims too high and shoots between his ears and into Sam's face.

In Mickey's Amateurs, Donald Duck is doing bad on an open mic night, so he fires a gatling gun into the crowd. Everyone's okay, though.

I guess it's from even before the Mad Men era, but seems like a weird angle for kid humor. Is he presented as the hero or the villain of his shows (does he 'win'/rape her at the end)? Wily or Roadrunner? Never liked the Speedy G cartoons really. Bugs and Daffy were good

Sometimes he wins, sometimes he doesn't. One time they get happily married. They get away with it because it's a skunk trying to gently caress a cat, and no one cared. Have you ever seen "The Continental" sketches on SNL with Christopher Walken where he tries to ensnare a woman, as seen from the woman's first person view? It's basically exactly like that. Sexual assault is terrible, but terrible things presented in just the right context can be hilarious.

One of them ends with her deciding to go along with it and starts rolling around in garbage and stuff so she'll smell as bad as him, but in a gift of the magi like twist he bathes in rosewater and deodorant and can't stand her smell. It fades to black with her chasing him in much the same matter he was chasing her for the rest of the cartoon.
