I watched a video of someone breaking down Juri (red something?) and man am I bummed out. My favorite things about her 4 were, in order, storing fireballs and frustrating zangiefs, dive kicks, and the counter move. Her v skill does seem pretty exciting. Being able to cancel the 2nd stage and store it for later seems pretty cool. I'll definitely take some time to try and figure her out, but I'm glad I decided to try Chun LI this game.

Less than a year ago this dude and other people who think like that wouldn't have any game to play. He's not wrong that fgs could do a lot better in teaching players why they are losing, but outright dismissing stuff because you can't eke out a win against someone who's as lost and confused as you are shows you don't actually care about learning in the first place. To be fair, i think for some starting players is more about playing people on their level than winning. When they feel close to a win they feel better, they can visually see progress easier. I love gg, but for a new person to fgs' its a steamrolled kinda game where if you can't tell whats you're doing wrong fast nothing will change. I never played it as someone entirely new to fighting games. And online being slightly above button mashing is fair but its not at all uncommon for me, (especially later in xrd) to bump into people I saw in top 8's on streams. They tend to be some of the few willing to stick around for sets if they aren't insta bored of you

I liked just googling and finding forums with people slowly discussing a character. It just felt much more low maintenance, and usually made me at least look stuff up about other characters but for games like BB and GG dustloop was so incredibly lovely that anything is an improvement. (20 match up threads with 3 of them with advice inside)

All the arcade talk is cool but lets not pretend its a thriving industry in america. Consoles and pc wrecked house on arcades and the ones left are either the city's one space for fighting games or just a place that happens to have some game set-ups along with tables for magic the gathering or whatever card games people play now. A persons first reaction when playing sf against some online people and friends isn't going to be "well i better seek out my community of fighting games players, let me travel for a few miles and pay to play the game i bought" it's a fair deduction but not necessarily expected. Also wow I thought I'd care alot more about juri, but I can't be bothered with playing the game enough for fight money and i'm drat sure not giving capcom anymore cash for sf5.
