My dad has the same (naturalized citizen) Constitution, and I am trying to persuade him to make a copy and mail it to Trump. I was 6 when my father was naturalized and was so excited that I could show how proud I was by wearing red, white and blue ribbons in my hair. Hair virtue signaling?

Nah his "have you even read the Constitution" line, as well as the "you've sacrificed nothing" line, was just hands down perfect regardless of him not being a native speaker. His wife looked awkward though and I was hoping she'd say something, anything.

Don't buy into the scott adams line that she is submissive or something. One of the fathers of a dead cop did the same while his wife spoke.

Yeah, I saw that less of the wife was submissive and more she probably wasn't comfortable speaking to millions but wanted to support her husband and son. If she really was a walking submissive Muslim wife stereotype, she wouldn't even be on stage in the first place. If I was invited to give a speech at the DNC, I don't think I could do it. It's bad enough when I have to give speeches to 100+ people in a room, but a speech to over 10 million people that's being filmed? Uuuuuuuuugh. I'd be shaking the entire time.

They were just on Lawrence O Donnell, and in addition to savaging the gently caress out of both Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell for being the respective leaders of the senate and house and yet they haven't condemned Trumps very obvious hate speech against Muslims, apparently his wife gets destroyed every time she sees a picture of her son and it was all she could do to just not burst into tears since if you see a wide shot of the speech his picture was on a 20' tall screen opposite her where her husband was speaking. And yeah, she spoke during that interview and it's obvious she's not submissive to her husband or any of that other racist as bullshit at all. Mr. Kahn's speech made my wife straight up sob by the end. I'm a political junkie that watches all the debates, all the convention coverage, and she sat down to watch Hillary's speech with me last night; the first time she's really had time at all to invest in political poo poo (just finished her first year of nursing school as a "non traditional" student and worked full-time for the first half of the year). She and I were both Bernie supporters and were going to vote for Hillary before the convention. Now she wants to volunteer for the Clinton campaign. The message hit home, I guess, so good job DNC and the Clinton folks. Also, I'm happy to live in a swing state where the votes count, I suppose.

Spacebump posted:It's crazy how many people refuse to believe Hillary is anti CU despite the history of CU. It's because she's good at raising money, and the Right Wing has spent decades painting her as corrupt. Which also plays into the usual purity arguments used against her. People like Bernie because he doesn't give a gently caress about the politically expedient thing, and dislike Hillary because that's a core tenant of her image. They see her actions as craven poll chasing and a smoke screen to hide her secret conservative dreams. The idea that Hillary doesn't want to stick a knife in the gut of Citizens United, twist said knife, and keep cold, hateful eye contact as the light of life slowly dims in it's eyes is crazy. But only if you take the time to look into the actual facts of the situation instead of just going with the glib idea that Hillary loves the gently caress out of Donors and taking money, so she's obviously for more money in politics. It's similar to the line of thinking that Hillary and Bill are flip flopping opportunists, just following the winds of change on gay issues. It's real Truthy, but if you take any time to look into the facts it's clearly not true. SSNeoman posted:so remind me gain why did we dislike tim kaine??? SedanChair posted:Tim Kaine owns Virginia doesn't give a gently caress as long as you declare the gifts, so I don't really see it as a big deal. Of course my governor is Rick Scott, so my outrage meter might need some calibration. I mean, it's not like Tim Kaine set up a law to funnel money into his business and then argued that there was no conflict of interest because he no longer owned any stake in the company, having given all his shares to his completely unrelated wife.

I don't think he ever planned on going further than being being a Virginian politician or an appointee, so he didn't consider the way it would look if he became the VP or a candidate for POTUS. Also it's the way Virginia seems to do things, so it would be even less likely to be looked at from an outside perspective. Remember his father in law is also a former Virginia Governor. citybeatnik posted:I've asked this previously, possibly in another thread - do we actually have a list of the gifts that he accepted and were they limited to just him or were his staff included? The list is at the Virginia Public Access Project. The vast majority of the gifts are paying for travel expenses from various political groups.

Everything else over like $2000 seems to be travel and spaced over several years.
