His persistent ability to manufacture horrifying gaffes might be damaging Trump, but, even if that's the case, that's still glossing over the fact that a fascist white supremacist is the Republican candidate, and they refuse to meaningfully disavow him. This seems like a missing the forest for the trees kind of scenario.

Every time a handful of these dudes actually do have a psychotic break and try something, nobody ever flocks to them in massive numbers to really stick it to the man. That handful just gets stomped and everyone goes back to their garage to pack up their bug out bag and ruminate on the upcoming social apocalypse.

When high profile supporters walk back endorsements and signal to uneasy Trump voters that it's ok to stay home in November, that's when he will have done meaningful damage. None of this matters until Trumps garbage causes him to lose support, and so far none of his controversies have moved the polls by more than 2 points, which is really just noise. You understand that he can't actually win the election with just the die hard supporters he currently has right? Like, if his goal is to win the election and he keeps alienating people who aren't currently on board then he is actively hurting his ability to win the election?

Well I didn't expect such a crazy swing in the polls; however, one thing dawned on me today as I tuned out politics on my way back to work: All the horrid, terrifying poo poo that Trump says aside, I'm sick of how much of a whiny little bitch he is. Always complaining about how he's treated, how CNN is unfair, how people treat him badly. Grow the gently caress up, Donald. I know there's a disturbingly high floor to his support, but I have to think that irritation at incessant bitching is one thing that cuts across party lines.

Trump has a lot of unwavering support from Republicans who disagree with just about everything he says, but want to defeat Hillary. People thought he alienated too many people to become the Republican nominee, then they said he alienated too many people to be competitive in the general election, but if the election were held last week we would have President Trump. Previous controversies haven't stuck, and this latest controversy isn't affecting his support any differently than those issues which everyone was certain would be Trump's breaking point.

On the one hand it really is a shame that there are people out there who want to find meaningful work and can't. On the other hand there are a lot of people leaving college with degrees in humanities or social sciences who can't find work either and the response from republicans is to say "maybe you should have picked a REAL major, hippie," and roll their eyes at the audacity of not being a STEMlord. So perhaps the correct response is "maybe you should have learned a real skill instead of being a coal miner," <makes jerkoff motion with his hand>.

Trump would only be liable if his speech encourages imminent lawless action. So it's quite easy for him to whip folks into a frenzy without getting into legal trouble (but then again if this election has taught us anything it's that his totally capable of going too far). speng31b posted:Yes, and his own party condemning him, even couched in softened terms or aside equal condemnations of Hillary, damages him. Even beyond how much it's actually hurting him, it's hurting him because he has like 14 weeks until the election and he's the one losing. Every day that Trump isn't gaining ground with American voters he's making his job that much harder. sarmhan posted:I'm not sure we watched the same speeches. TyrantWD posted:Previous controversies haven't stuck, and this latest controversy isn't affecting his support any differently than those issues which everyone was certain would be Trump's breaking point. They've all stuck. There is a reason his ceiling has been 44% for basically the whole cycle, and that's because he keeps making it impossible for anyone but his die hard supporters to vote for him. The only time things were close it was because Hillary's numbers tanked. He's not going to win the election with 44% of the vote and he can't get more because he's constantly bogged down in gaffes and scandals. It's really weird to say "the guy who has been constantly alienating people and coincidentally is also losing in nearly every poll for the entire cycle, and has the lowest favorability rating for a candidate ever, isn't actually hurt by anything!"

Why would you give a poo poo about how the DNC whored themselves out. It has no bearing on how Hillary governs once she's elected. She's not all of a sudden beholden to Republicans now that one spoke at the convention. When people start clutching their pearls about the political process, I just assume they're either super naive or it's their first election.
