Change the slave and master just to be sure, they are cheap, and usually if one goes the other isn't far behind.

Not a drop of fluid anywhere, no visible leaks at the master or slave. I guess better to discover this on the day off rather than getting stranded on the way to work. Edit: Finding a write up on this is a bitch, do I have to bench bleed the new master if it has no reservoir? edit: MUTHERFUCKER IS SHIFTING JUST FINE NOW GOD drat IT. still ordering parts but gently caress i am annoyed. I am kind of broke this week (rent, bills, dentist) so will I regret ordering the Exedy parts? https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/mazda,2006,mx-5+miata,2.0l+l4,2002645,transmission-manual,clutch+master+cylinder,1996 https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/mazda,2006,mx-5+miata,2.0l+l4,2002645,transmission-manual,clutch+slave+cylinder,2044 Rhyno fucked around with this message at 01:00 on Jul 29, 2016 |

No those will be fine. My bet is the master but go ahead and replace both of them and flush/bleed the system. You don't have to bench bleed it either, it's an easy hour job at the most.

Could be the internal seals are on the way out just not completely yet.....But that is kinda weird, usually when they go that's it.

Now here's a stupid loving question. I have never bled the clutch on a car that doesn't have a stand alone reservoir. The NC draws fluid from the brake master. Does this mean I'm going to have to bleed my drat brakes when I'm done?

No, just keep an eye on the level even though I highly doubt you'd draw enough out bleeding the clutch. My Protege was the same way, easy as pie.

Master wasn't leaking into the passenger compartment either? Check up by the pedals and see. Sounds strange if it's intermittent like that. Hopefully your pressure plate isn't hosed or something.

AncientTV posted:Picked up an NB for cheap recently and I'm trying to diagnose some pretty intense wandering. The jack that I have right now can't fit under the car, so I haven't been able to really give anything a once-over, but I'm wondering what I should be checking first once I can take a proper look at everything. Essentially at any speed over ~45mph, the car starts to act like I'm driving in a really intense crosswind, it'll start to head off in one direction, and then act like I over-correct after attempting to keep it straight. The steering is a little vague at speeds below that, but nothing near the almost undrivable state it's in at higher speeds. So this wasn't completely solved by the alignment, and I noticed today while driving behind the car, driven by someone else, that one of the rear wheels has a noticeable oscillation. I'm thinking bent rim? The lugnuts are all torqued properly, so I couldn't really think of what else it could be.

Swap it to the other side, or up front, see what happens.

I had my first foray into polishing this weekend on my single stage red 95 and it as all going well until I cut too far on the rear panel. Is this something I can try to touch up myself or should I take it to a paint/body shop? You can see where I went too far on the top edge, around the key hole, and right smack dab in the middle of the panel. I guess I should have waited until I had a smaller pad. 6" was definitely too big for this, at least for me.

Anyone ever used a touch-up kit to take care of small paint chips? I have a few spots I'd like to cover up before rust forms. Was thinking of a kit from paintscratch.com - something like the touch-up kit here.

For any kind of paint work the quality of the results depend a lot more on the process and the effort put in more than the paint product.

I just care about sealing the surface to protect against rust and making the chips less noticeable (I have a stormy blue mica or whatever NC).

I'm trying to mount my fake gopro by sticking a bolt through the M6-sized holes in the "mouth" of the bumper, where presumably the aftermarket grille inserts are mounted. I managed to stick the bolt though the hole in the top plastic cover but it felt pretty floppy and probably won't hold the camera well once driving. I'd assume that the holes go deeper than that to enable the inserts to be bolted down, but the problem is that I need the bolt the other way, so that the threaded side ends up sticking out. Does anyone know if it's reasonably possible to get to them from the other side without removing a bunch of stuff from the car? Do they even go all the way through?

I've recently stumbled upon a Miata Kart facebook group. What they do is strip off all fenders and doors leaving just the unibody that connects to the drivetrain and then cage it. It looks pretty temping to me. Someone is swapping a used engine into an ex nc-cupcar and it looks like it will be ballin.

So my issue absolutely was the clutch master. How did I figure this out? When I pulled the hose off under the spotlight I got a real good look at the inlet nozzle and the seal was horribly corroded and when I aimed the light closer I saw fluid had run down the back and had collected below the brake booster. I discovered this after I replaced the slave (I'd already put the car on ramps). And the only reason I didn't finish the job is I pulled the car into the garage a little too close to the wall and couldn't maneuver myself inside to get at the bolts. Right now I figure it might actually be faster to yank the seat out to make room rather than roll the car back and forth a bunch of times.

Absolutely pull the seat out for any master job. It's easier to lay down for me than try to get up under there all twisted halfway in the car. My back aches just thinking about it.
